RESIDENTIAL ANALYSIS

qď ąâ€Ż The task was to measure each and every detail of our existing residence and draft it digitally on AutoCAD and then do the analysis of the same . This task gave us the knowledge of taking measurements & how zoning plays an important role to obtain a layout and helps us to find the standardization of furniture.

ZONING The position of the kitchen Is appropriate according to the privacy, since it and the vestibule tends to add more segregation to the space. Plus the washing area and attached storage gives a good advantage for the kitchen and related activities ,but there is a good amount of distance to access the dining area, so the kitchen should be placed centrally so that it is accessible from all the spaces

The positioning of the powder room is not correct as it tends to break the privacy of the kitchen and bedrooms next to it. The placement should have been near the public area so that privacy level is not disturbed The placement of the living lounge is appropriate as per the segregation of the spaces but slightly inappropriate as it only accessible through the public which intend the privacy level from the other spaces

Laying out of different spaces according to the level of privacy.

The positioning of the master bedroom is totally apt in terms privacy and vestibule adds a segregation from the buffer area.

Formal lounge and the dining are placed appropriately near the entrance which helps to keep all other areas undisturbed.

The placement of the bedroom is not correct as it separated from all other private areas.

PROXIMITY

q The relation of a space with all the other spaces in the same area that too in terms of distance . This operation actually helps us to find the closeness of one space to another

MY ROOM •  Dining , formal lounge are easily accessible. Living lounge is just next to my room. •  Entrance in the residence is at considerable distance. •  Kitchen and master bedroom are at the other end of the area which intend to be far away from my room.

LIVING LOUNGE •  Living lounge follows the similar pattern that of my room •  My room is just next to living lounge. •  Dining and formal lounge are easily accessible. •  Entrance is at a considerable distance. •  Kitchen is a matter of concern as it placed far away from the living lounge. Master bedroom is still considerably distant.

PROXIMITY

DINING •  The placement of dining is bit off centre of the area. •  Formal lounge and living lounge are just next to the dining. •  My room and the entrance are at a considerable distance. •  kitchen and the master bedroom are a bit far away.

FORMAL LOUNGE •  It tends to follow the same pattern that of the dining area. •  Dining is adjacent and my room in just next to the formal lounge. •  Living lounge is at a considerable distance. •  Kitchen and the master bedroom are approximately as from the dining area.

PROXIMITY

KITCHEN •  kitchen tends to be placed far away form the areas which should close to it. Washing area and storage are attached to it which is an advantage. •  Master bedroom is just next to the kitchen which is of no use. •  Entrance is at a considerable distance. •  Formal lounge, dining and living are far away which is matter of a concern. • My room is just at the other end which is negligible.

MASTER BEDROOM •  Master bedroom tends to follow the dame pattern as of the kitchen. •  Kitchen is just next to the room which is of no such use. •  Entrance is at a considerable distance which is an advantage of segregation in terms of privacy. •  Dining and formal lounge are at a considerable distance. •  Living lounge tend to be far since both places are placed at two different ends . My bedroom being distant from this is not that much of a concern

PROXIMITY

ENTRANCE •  Central placement of the entrance makes all the areas equally accessible which is a great advantage.

CIRCULATION

•  An overall movement happens around the area •  overlapping movement happens in the foyer as it is the buffer area of the residence, and the most busy area for movement too.

There is an ample circulation place, but the working triangle comes out to be quite big which creates a lot of movement in the kitchen.

There is less space for circulation for the store as the furniture causes hindrance in the movement

Circulation is slightly less which makes it congested

There seems to be less circulation space in the living lounge and comes out to be quite compact.

FORM AND SPACE

qď ąâ€Ż There seems to be a lot of symmetry in the form throughout the area, rectangular shapes seems to be spread all over the area.

Rectangular kitchen counter allows a very good functioning for all the operations happening in the space plus it comes to produce a very efficient working triangle

The partition is very good medium of segregating the living area from dining

These chair makes this portion look more congested and heavy look and leaves a very less amount of space.

Foyer is a very nice open and welcoming space into the area, it tends to the center of the attraction.

Wall height wardrobe are a good medium of space utilization in the washroom plus efficient storage.

Furniture placement in sot appropriate since it makes the space look congested

OPERATIONAL FUNCTION

CLEARANCES

The chair causes a hindrance while accessing the

The door tends to bang on the WC every time, as there is no space between the two.

As the bathing is next to the door so the there is water spillage outside the washroom too

Opening and closing of the door tends create problem when it accessed from inside

Less space to walk through when somebody is sitting

PRINCIPLE OF DESIGN

MATERIALS

The house is well aligned and has a good sense of symmetry Throughout the plan, rooms are in proportion, but the washing area is very big which van altered

•  Italian marble flooring all over. •  Wooden wardrobes in the washroom

CASE STUDY PROJECT : DINESH MILLS BUNGALOW DESIGNER : ATELIER dnD

BRIEF This 6,000 square foot contemporary residence is located in just outside Vadodara city, the third most populated city in the State of Gujarat in western India.

CONCEPT To build a minimalist house with simple clean lines, uncluttered geometry, fluid, transparent spaces where the interiors and exteriors blend into each other in an attempt to keep the user constantly in touch with the outdoors. The task was to create a contemporary house for three and their support staff meeting their functional requirements.

ZONING

OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONING THERE IS NO SUCH OPERATIONAL FAULTS, ALL THE COMPONENTS OF THE SPACE ARE ANTHROPOMTERICALLY CORRECT, WHICH DOES NOT LEAVES ANY CHNCE OF FAULT .

PRIVATE AREA

SEMI-PRIVATE AREA

PUBLIC AREA

There is as an integration between the private and the public areas, but yes the segregation has been done very well with the partitions. The puja room tends to be and private area but due to their own aesthetics they have made it as an semi private zone.

STRUCTURAL GRID

WAETHER CONDITIONS The city of vadodra considered to be a dry region. SUMMER : The weather is hot through the months of March to July .The average temperature is 36 WINTER : November to February the climate is extremely dry. Cold northerly winds for a mild chill in January.

PROXIMITY

•  Since the area is huge so, the residence comes out to be quite spacious •  All the spaces except the placement of the is quite far away from the master bedroom which is a major concern

FORM AND SPACE

There is a lot symmtery in the forms of furniture Geometric shapes tend to involve more in the sapce

WALL STRUCTURE

LOAD BEARING WALLS

PARTITIONS

SPECIAL ELEMENTS

• The main driveway leads to a white cantilever porch which defines the drop-off point for the house. •  The house itself is an extended spine from this point with various functions attached to it along its length. • THE PUJA ROOM GIVEA • Three outdoor verandahs serve as attached semi-open entities to functions like living and bedrooms. •  The outdoor pool and deck hugs the living spaces and master bedroom thereby bringing in the cool air during winters. This poolside space extends into a lawn making it ideal space for leisure. An external staircase leads one to terrace which features open Jacuzzi capturing the vast green forest around the site.”

DESIGN BRIEF

q  This is the task of listing the areas in the existing residence and noting down their problems and taking out there solutions, and add on the areas which we require.

SPACES FORMAL DRAWING

FORMAL DRAWING EXISTING : The existing formal drawing is not well segregated from the other areas, It has to be access through the living lounge which tends to expose all the privacy of the space. As being small being it seems to get more compact and congested with the furniture. The color scheme the forms are ethnic. It lacks elegance and formal environment. SOLUTION : Replacement of the space, Increasing the area would fix the problem , formal color scheme and shapes should be incorporated so as to achieve elegance.

POWDER ROOM

POWDER ROOM KITCHEN UTILITY LIVING LOUNGE GRAND PARENTS ROOM SIBLING’S ROOM STUDY

EXISTING : The powder room is placed very far away from the public area which causes a lot of public movement in the private areas just for its access. Due to very less area available ,the door keeps on banging on the WC, whenever opened which has caused damaging of the door and the WC both. SOLUTION : Replacement of the powder room, increase in the area.

KITCHEN EXISTING : The kitchen is placed very far away from the dining and formal drawing which causes a lot of movement in the. There is very less amount of storage available within the space. The shutters of the cabinet tend to go out of order due to pest or any other technical problem. The door has to be opened and closed every time. SOLUTION : Replacement, automatic entrace door better qaulity material for the shutters of the cabinet, provision of utility for more storage.

PUJA ROOM MASTER BEDROOM ENTERANCE DINING

DESIGN BRIEF

LIVING LOUNGE EXISTING : The living lounge tends to be a public as all the public spaces are across it . Improper placement of the furniture makes the space look compact and congested. No sense of segregation from the other spaces SOLUTION : Re-placement of the space , proper furniture placement, partitions for segregation.

GRAND PARENTS ROOM EXISTING : Due to old my grand parent can’t keep moving up and down the floor to access the room. The space is very compact and there is no natural light in the room. SOLUTION : Re-placement of the room, increase the area and re orientation of the furniture. Provision of window.

PUJA ROOM EXISITNG : Since it centrally located which makes ventilation in the space impossible. Puja room is quite big as per need and requirement. SOLUTION : Re-placement of the space, provision of window, decrease the area.

MASTER BEDROOM EXISTING : The size of the room is smaller than standard master bedroom, No space for sitting, compact washroom. Less amount of storage in the room. SOLUTION : Increase the size, provision for sitting, storage cabinets.

ENTRANCE SIBLING’S ROOM

EXISTING : The entrance is quite simple athetically.

EXISTING : The room is quite spacious but the space is not fully utilized, which makes the room looks empty. No separate space for sitting and no natural light in the room.

SOLUTION : Lavish entrance.

SOLUTION : Re-placement of the room, provision of window, separate sitting area.

DINING EXISTING : The dining is very away from the kitchen which causes a lot of movement.

STUDY EXISTING : Since there is no separate study space so the formal dining area is used for studying by my sister which disrupts many actions and creates disturbance for the her too. SOLUTION : Provision of separate study space.

SOLUTION : Re-placement of the dining, near the kitchen.
