WE ARE THE LEGIONNAIRES & WALLSEND 72’ In 1972, juvenile jazz bands were extremely popular in the North East as well as many other industrial areas of the UK. Between 2015 and 2017, Amber worked with school children and adults in North Tyneside to create We are the Legionnaires & Wallsend 72’, in celebration of the memory and legacy of our region’s jazz band culture. Now, emerging curator Jess Petty, has brought the resulting films, photography and memorabilia together in a Side ‘Project Space’ exhibition, to illustrate the enthusiasm, joyful noise and pride in presentation & performance experienced by those involved. We are the Legionnaires & Wallsend 72’ were developed and delivered through AmberSide’s Learning & Participation and Volunteer Training programmes.
