Sid Sidebottom MP
… for a fair go in Braddon
MEDIA RELEASE 7 October 2010
New look for Penguin Primary School to celebrate 125th Anniversary The opening of the redeveloped library and multipurpose hall, new sports facilities and outdoor play areas at Penguin Primary School is a great way to celebrate the school’s 125th anniversary says the Federal Member for Braddon, Sid Sidebottom. Penguin Primary School received $2,650,000 under the National School Pride (NSP) program and Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) elements of Building the Education Revolution. Mr Sidebottom said it had been great to see the progress of the developments at Penguin Primary. “I first visited to see the works with then Education Minister, Julia Gillard, a year ago. Now Ms Gillard is Prime Minister and has a special place in her office for the gumboots she was presented by the school on that day,” Mr Sidebottom said. “Since that visit Ms Gillard has kept an eye on the progress at Penguin Primary, and she was even able to show off the gumboots and praise the school in Federal Parliament. “It is tremendous to be here today to celebrate the opening of the redeveloped library and multipurpose hall, new sports facilities and outdoor play areas and to witness first hand, the impact this has had on Penguin Primary School and the local community. “I am also delighted to announce that this particular project has supported the employment of 135 workers. This is what we strived to achieve – this is the essence of the Economic Stimulus Plan.” Further information about this project and all schools funded under the BER is available at www.buildingtheeducationrevolution.gov.au or at: www.economicstimulusplan.gov.au.
