MEDIA RELEASE 28 October 2010
Sid elected Deputy Chair of Regional Australia Committee Federal Member for Braddon Sid Sidebottom MP has today been elected as the deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Regional Australia. The new committee is chaired by Independent Tony Windsor and will advise Minister Simon Crean and the Government on regional issues. Mr Sidebottom said it was an honour to be elected as deputy chairman on what he believes will be an important committee in the new-look Federal Parliament. “Importantly the first order of business for the committee will be an inquiry into the social and economic impact of the Murray Darling Basin Authority guide,” Mr Sidebottom said. “As someone from an important part of regional Australia, I believe I can play a productive role on this committee.” Mr Sidebottom has also been returned as Deputy Speaker, and will also be on the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Procedures. He is also a member for the Caucus committees on education and skills, agriculture and sustainable environment and economics. “I’m looking forward to a busy and interesting term ahead, particularly in relation to issues facing regional areas our own.”
