MEDIA RELEASE 22 October 2010
New tennis centre throws out the welcome mat Burnie’s new tennis centre will throw out the welcome mat for more top standard competitions said the Federal Member for Braddon, Sid Sidebottom MP. Mr Sidebottom said he was very pleased to join with Minister Bryan Green, Burnie City Council and the Burnie Tennis Club to launch the redeveloped centre. “It has been some time since the Tennis Club first outlined their vision for the club to me, and the potential it offered to bring more top quality tennis to the region and Tasmania,” Mr Sidebottom said. “It is great to see that it has reached completion, and it will add to the great mix of facilities which Burnie has developed in recent years. “I was pleased to see the Council direct money from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program toward this project, as it helped to sustain jobs in the region. “And by hosting major events such as the International Challenger competition we will also boost the economy of the region.” Mr Sidebottom said he understood the Commonwealth funds allowed – new stairwell to replace non-compliant stairwell installation of lift to second floor, and deck area off second floor. “Along with the rest of the work, funded by other means, this has combined to create a top class facility, and I wish the Burnie Tennis Club all the best for a new era.”
