Sid Sidebottom MP
… for a fair go in Braddon
MEDIA RELEASE 12 July 2010
Burnie boardwalk a winner for all Passing on valuable new skills is just one of the winning notes for the new Burnie boardwalk says the Federal Member for Braddon, Sid Sidebottom MP. Mr Sidebottom joined with Burnie Mayor Alvwyn Boyd yesterday to present Certificate II in Construction certificates to workers who have been part of the $1.15 million Burnie Boardwalk project. “These new skills, which will hopefully lead to long-term jobs, are just one of the benefits of this project, and many others around the State and nation,” Mr Sidebottom said. “Burnie has been just one of many communities hit by a cut in jobs, and these types of projects are aimed at helping to cushion the blow and help people stay in work, or get new work. “It will also make a major contribution to the City of Burnie for generations, with a number of exciting new developments in this area leading the city into the 21 st Century. “This will mean a win-win situation for everyone involved.” The construction of the waterfront boardwalk involves the installation of solar lighting, raised viewing platforms, beach access ramps, dry stone walls and landscaping. This project forms the critical link between two major precinct developments currently underway in Burnie, the redevelopment of the waterfront and the Makers Centre, which received another $3 million in funding from the Federal Government. “This is all part of an overall investment of $7 million in the waterfront around Burnie.” For more information or to arrange an interview call - Luke Sayer on 0458 311 355
