Reports today have revealed that a major anti-Government television advertising campaign backed by big tobacco companies is about to go to air.

Federal Labor MP for Braddon Sid Sidebottom today said Garry Carpenter must declare what Tony Abbott has promised big tobacco in return for its support.

“We already know that big tobacco companies are investing heavily in Tony Abbott’s campaign,” Mr Sidebottom said.

“This advertising campaign is a betrayal of the trust our local community.

“What are big tobacco companies getting for their 30 pieces of silver?”

Mr Sidebottom issued the following questions to Garry Carpenter - What promises did Tony Abbott make to big tobacco companies to secure this grubby deal?

- Will he stand up for local families and demand that Tony Abbot tell his mates in big tobacco to end this campaign immediately?

- Will he call on big tobacco not to show the ads in Braddon?

“This boils down to whether the local community can trust Mr Abbott,” Mr Sidebottom said.

“Local families deserve to know that Mr Abbott is happy for big tobacco to try and buy him this election.”
