The chefs are well known for their passion when it comes to the food and creating mouth-watering dishes. They cure, pickle, brine, salt and smoke their own produce and the enthusiasm for this shines through in the flavours. Fresh fish is delivered daily by Chapman’s of Sevenoaks who collect directly from the fishing boats. Beautiful pure bred Aylesbury Ducks come from Laughton’s Ducklings near Faversham, fresh free range Chickens and Eggs, Veal, Lamb & Pork all come from Monkshill Farm at Waterham, the Beef used here is bred less than five miles away on the Quex Estate, and the most recent supplier to join their list is the Cheesemakers of Canterbury at the Goods Shed, supplying fine Kentish

Cheeses. We try and source as many products locally as possible. There is an a la carte menu as well as a bar menu. In the winter they also offer a great value house menu priced at £12 for two courses and £18 for three courses. In the summer months you can dine out on the patio or surrounding grass areas on the picnic tables, or even order something to take down to the beach. We also have a Kiosk by the seaside offering Ice Cream and Lollies, Cold Drinks, Beach Goods and of course Fresh Seafood, including, Cockles, Mussels, Jellied Eels, Whelks, Prawns and many other seaside favourites. Quality without compromise, peaceful seclusion – that is the Eastwell Manor experience. Eastwell Manor is a private, family owned hotel with its origins dating back to the Norman Conquest.

Executive Head Chef, Carl Smith is passionate about food and how it is sourced. His menus change according to the seasons and as much as possible is obtained from local producers. As the days become shorter and the nights chillier, the Duo of Beef with a Root Gratin and Celeriac Puree with Red Wine Jus and Aubergine Caviar should help to keep out the cold. The fillet and blade of beef used in this dish comes from Kent as do the root vegetables. Venison and other game such as pheasant are used from the Eastwell Estate when in season and it is always an advantage for the chef and the customer to know the origins of what they are eating. Starters from the A la Carte menu now include Osetra Caviar which is farmed and sustainable and farmed Colchester oysters. Native oysters are also used when available from Whitstable and Hythe. Room for dessert? Perfect for Autumn is the Warm Tatin of Pear with Clotted Cream and Citrus Dressing or the Warm Chocolate Fondant with Dark Chocolate Sorbet just to name two of the mouth watering puddings on offer. The Manor Restaurant offers a Table d’Hote Lunch from Monday to Saturday at £15.50 for two courses and £20.00 for three courses with a varied and

changing seasonal menu. The Table d’Hote Dinner is available seven days a week at £26.50 and the traditional Sunday Lunch is £19.95.

Restaurant 54 Since its launch in May 2009, Restaurant 54’s reputation for producing excellent freshly cooked meals has started to reach beyond the boundaries of Kent. Now established as a firm favourite in Broadstairs and the surrounding area, not just for the consistent quality of the food on offer, but for the welcome you receive and the attention to detail on display during service. Here it’s about the whole experience. Crisp white linen and elegant, understated décor with a welcoming ambience that is both friendly and inviting. The atmosphere is formal, but relaxed. It is not uncommon to hear waves of laughter throughout the dining room. Using fresh local seasonal ingredients, Head Chef Joe Silk is constantly tinkering with the menu, which changes on a regular basis without losing sight of customer favourites. Conveniently located in the centre of this pretty town just a short walk to the seafront. Restaurant 54 offers an extensive menu with a fine selection of seasonal meat and seafood, alongside a good-quality, good value wine list. To greet you is homemade Olive bread, or Sun Dried Tomato bread. There is a modern twist on classic dishes, Vegetarian Scotch Egg as a starter, with homemade warm Piccalilli is particularly delightful, or a mixed Fish Plate with Cajun Spiced Prawn, Smoked Salmon, fresh white Crab Meat, accompanied by Lime & Herb Mayonnaise. For the main course 54’s menu is divided between five Meat, five Fish and one vegetarian option. Roast Tenderloin of Pork with Bacon Mash, Hot Chilli Pickled Cabbage & Cider Apple Liquor is a real treat. The Pan Fried Fillet of Sea bass with Roast Aubergine & Chorizo

Confit, Baby Potatoes & Chive Sauce is another favourite. Or why not try their extremely popular, cracking posh Fish & Chips with Tiger Prawn, Monkfish, Plaice Fillet & Scallop cooked in Lemon & Coriander Batter with Minted Crushed Peas & Thrice Cooked Chips, simply divine! You can then luxuriate over the choice of desserts, Sharp Lemon Tart with sticky Strawberries & Marmalade Ice Cream, a Hot Apple & Cinnamon Charlotte with Lemon Meringue Ice Cream & Raspberry Puree. Richard Phillips’ Restaurants Thackeray’s Richard Phillips’ first restaurant, Thackeray’s in Tunbridge Wells, is well known as one of the best restaurants in Kent. In 1992, two childhood friends, Esposito Tammaro and Vincenzo Esposito, left their hometown of Naples to seek their fortune in England. They were driven by their strong passion for Italian food and fresh ingredients and by 1994 they opened their first restaurant, Osteria Posillipo Pizzeria Broadstairs. With little money left to buy professional equipment or fancy dĂŠcor they focused on what was really important, the quality of food. Located in the Garden of England just off the A28 between Ashford and Canterbury is the chocolate box village of Chilham, where you can find a real gem; the 600 year old Woolpack Inn is nestled at the bottom of the hill in the shadow of the Norman castle.

With its vast oak beams and inglenook fireplaces it offers a glimpse into hospitality of yesteryear. The inn is said to be haunted by the Grey lady, a friendly ghost who wanders the main building. Visitors can choose to relax in the cosy bar, the restaurant with its glorious bay window and country lane views or the patio courtyard where they will find the ancient olive tree which has been in situ since the inn was built. Parking is not a problem with availability for 25 cars to the rear of the hotel and space enough to accommodate a coach. The Inn boasts a home-cooked menu with many of the ingredients being sourced locally. Fish comes off the boat in the morning and often is on the plate by lunch service. Local mushroom sautĂŠed in garlic butter, finished with stilton and cream and presented on a garlic ciabatta, real home-made steak & Masterbrew Ale pie, and homemade strawberry shortcake give a hint of the homely fayre on offer.
