ABOUT ME I’m Sidharth Vohra, an aspiring car designer, currently studying transportation design at Istituto Europeo Di Design, Turin, Italy. Cars have always been my first passion and I have managed to translate the same into my career choice. My design philosophy translates to “less is more”. I believe in the current need for futuristic innovation through minimalism.

ERCEDES BENZ G KART
Design research C O N C E P T U A L I S AT I O N
The vehicle developed was meant to be dual purpose. The first purpose was for the vehicle to be a go-kart transporter: a vehicle that carries the kart from track to track along with the crew and equipment. As every motorsport enthusiast would be aware, a recent incident involving Formula1 driver Jules Bianchi crashing into the JCB retrieving a disabled vehicle. Racetracks are not the best location to have heavy machinery retrieving vehicles. So the concept revolves around how this Go-kart Transported can also replace a heavy-duty machine like JCB as a vehicle recovery machine.
In the initial stages of the concept development,he need waas to decide a package,to initiate he design process for the development of the proportions of the vehicle. Once this is done, the design process can start on what the vehicle presents. Decisions are to be made on the desig language such as the expressions ,the form etc.
Design research INITIAL CONCEPT SKETCHES
Once the package is decided and the designing process is initiated, the side view is finalized. Post this decision, the front and the rear research was initiated.
The feel of the design language was intended to be aggressive and sporty looking “Crossover, as it will be used on the track as a safety car during races. It needed to have the wide stance of a sports car to maintain balance around the track and keep up with the chicanes.
Design research INITIAL CONCEPT SKETCHES
Once the theme was decided, different proposals were made on the same proportions to finalise a direction in which the final product would head. One of the many proposals was selected for further refinement of the design process.

This is an explanation of how the Roof mechanism takes place, how Go-Kart is lifted into the vehicle and the same equipment is used as Air breaks when the vehicle needs stability through the corners. The flaps shown on the roof move forward and backward as well as up and down,to pull the Go Kart in the Vehicle and the same is lifted up as air breaks during track service.

Design research FINALISING DESIGN
The renders coming towards the final stages were made according to the package of the vehicle with 4 people seating and shooting break sort of roofline giving a dynamic effect to a usually heavy proportioned SUV.
The interior design exploration was conducted keeping in mind the design language that was set for the exterior which was DESIGNING WITH SURFACES NOT LINES. As shown in the research sketches an attempt was made to find interesting forms for the console, purpose was to create the interior in as less parts as possible.

FUNCTIONALITY OF DESIGN
The final renderings for the interior were made keeping in mind the samllest of details like the A/C vents , steering wheels, control panel and the Affalterbach logo engraved in the leather to give a premiuim feel.
On the following page, the renders for the exterior are presented in real life situations to get a feel of the proportioin/stance of the vehicle,as by no means is it a normally proportioned SUV/Crossover

The design therapy of Chevrolet has been a perfect harmony of organic and geometric shapes. The Camaro, being the flagship mole of the Chevrolet line was the inspiration for the line up in the coming years. The dual grill signature of the Chevrolet brand.

The Indian market demands practicality with style, hence the motive was to create a perfect balance. The initial stages involved predicting what a Chevy would look like in 2020.
Design research INITIAL CONCEPT SKETCHES
In the second stage of the project, a few quick explorations were digitally rendered to create a basic guideline of what the proportions of the car would look like and identify the design language of Chevrolet for the upcoming five years. The design language represents a balanced amalgamation of the organic and geometric aspects of the brand. After experimentation and discussion, the basic theme of the design was picked. This was to be further developed and refined to result in the final design of the project.

This stage included developing ideas and interpretation of the Chevrolet design language. Different proposals for the front were made, from which one was selected was along the lines of the ‘City Car’ form of design. Similarly, the rear of the car was finalized, keeping in the mind the essence of Chevrolet and its requirement of a city car.
According to brief provided, Chevrolet wanted to maintain the “Tight Surface” format. The inspiration was taken from the flagship models of Chevrolet like the Camaro and Corvette.

The final renders were made keeping in mind of what the future interpretation of a Chevrolet Micro Car. Making the best use of Photoshop, realistic renders were made to represent what the final product will look like on the road.
ALFA ROMEo SC
In the future, the inter cities highways are seen as an organized system of Hyperspeed driving. Inspired from this, Hyperspeed Tunnel roads was the basis of this Super “Magnetic Levitation Car for a prestigious brand like Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo Evolution over the years
CONCEPT EXPLANATION Road Mode
Magnetic Levitation - electrically charged body panels and Tunnel floor repel each other due to similiar charge helping friction reduction and high speed travel
On the road, body panels move up hence the wheels function normally
Tunnel Mode
According to the concept, Supercars of the future will be centered on smooth surfaces and aerodynamic forms to attain maximum efficiency and minimum amount of drag. Hence I started sketching with a mind set of having just one smooth surfacing running through the surface of the car and covering the wheels for best possible flow of air around the body of the car. The intention was to create a speed form and then put wheels on it, hence this shape was derived.
Design research INITIAL CONCEPT SKETCHES
As our college had aerodynamics lessons in this duration, it was helpful for me to take advice and develop surfaces that best suited the purpose of this concept. In this stage, design developments were done to take the project to the next level, which consisted of devising innovative ways of air flow through the surfaces of the vehicle. After some research, a suitable form was developedand designed in a way that suited the Alfa Romeo brand identity.

Design research FUNCTIONALITY OF DESIGN
The Aerodynamic Various airflow patterns were developed, through the surfacing of the vehicle. More research was done on “Active Aerodynamics. The concept involved movement of the front wing over the wheel to control airflow and drag. And Movement of the rear wing over the wheel is directly related to the size of the intake. This wing moves up and down based in the speed of the car.
As shown here, the research was made keeping in mind the purest and most efficient form for aerodynamics for the smooth flow and reduction of drag. Forms inspired by the most ‘efficient’ aerodynamic shapes like the ‘Teardrop’. One Canopy covers the most part of the vehicle making it a seemless unobstusive volume.

ALias model Surface Modelling
The Brief was to create an Alias model of any Car designed by yourself/not existing in the market. I chose to model a Coupe by Cadillac.

After the Alias Model was fully complete,It was time for the most satisfactory moment of putting your design in keyshot and imagine how your car would look in realtime.
