THE FLOW - MUSEUM of CONTEMPORARY ART CIVIC - INFILL
Year: WINTER 2017 Location: Culver City, CA INTERIM SELECTED
SCOPE OF WORK: The design process started with its site context as the main consideration; especially the Metro Expo Line of Culver city create a strong datum line that guides the project orientation. The New Museum was designed in linear form to create parallel lines responding to the Metro Expo Line. The Project started with its circulation form which was designed based on a system of tunnels that mimics the flows of falling leaves in the air.
1
The central tunnel was chosen as the main path of travel to connect the front and the back of the museum, at the same time smaller tunnels slides and twisted around it, directing subordinate circulation to exhibition spaces. Volumes were added around the tunnel system for exhibitions and other functionals spaces, while tunnels turned into stairs and ramp that flows from volume to void.
MODELGRAPHY - PROMENADE EXHIBIT A relationship between tunnels and volumes was created as tunnels intersecting with solid volumes turn into void forms to create transitional spaces and light shaft introducing indirect sunlight into spaces, also load-bearing structure for the design.

SYNTHESIS - SCIENTIFIC RETREAT Year: FALL 2018 Location: Culver City, CA INTERIM SELECTED
MOUNT WILSON OBSERVATORY Mount Wilson is one of the peaks of the San Gabriel Mountains, located north of Pasadena. The summit is at 5,710 feet (1,740m). From the summit you have unobstructed views across the Los Angeles basin out to the Pacific Ocean. The Mount Wilson. Observatory is located near the summit. For the first half of the twentieth century it was an astronomical center with 60inch and 100-inch telescopes and two solar towers. TO A SCIENTIST’S RETREAT In 1986 the Mt. Wilson Institute was formed with the focus to have the observatory function as an educational facility for the public as well as to support local junior scientists with their research. SCOPE OF WORK The design is a scientist’s retreat located on a south east facing slope below the Mt. Wilson Observatory. It will be used mostly by astronomers, but shall also entertain weekenders interested in astronomy and occasionally hikers.

The site is on land that has been leased from the Angeles National Forest. Any new structure must be designed such that its construction, operation and maintenance do not impact the natural environment. The new retreat’s main components are: 1/ Living quarters fo r two individuals with a shared communal space 2/ Office space for scientific work 3/ Outdoor gathering space for lectures, visiting groups. Other major required components are: 4/ Rain-water harvesting 5/ Septic tank 6/ Fire protection against wildfires

GRASS - WEHOusing SOCIAL HOUSING HEALTHCARE - ADAPTIVE REUSED Year: WINTER 2018 Location: Culver City, CA
SCOPE OF DESIGN The project aims to augment knowledge of contemporary production of housing, including application of specific construction materials and systems in relation to tectonics, expression, and affordability; working knowledge about the dwelling, its internal order, relevant dimensional limits and ranges; These goals are archieved through an emphasis on analysis of the cultural and physical context of the city; the individual living unit and the communal space. DESIGN DESCRIPTION 12 units of mixed unit studio, 1-bed, 2-bed with an emphasis on L shape courtyard typology to facilitate a high-end housing with large volume for open space and community space. The designs focus on circulation on site and privacy, at the same time consider the quality of the indoor and outdoor environment. Having a skin made out of sliding louvers helps accentuate the horizontal circulation behind the mass, while maintain privacy and frame the view of the neighborhood for the resident.
19
Moreover, different unit types were designed with different modules interlocking each other to form 3 towers on the site. Then a circulation decking system designed to weave between 3 masses to serve as main circulation. In demographic perspective, Grass is about the young and dynamic population of West Hollywood which is unveil through its shading system and building form.

RLA NATIONAL REHABILITATION CENTER HEALTHCARE
Recuperative Care Center (RCC) Residential Treatment Program (RTP)
Year: FALL 2019 Location: RANCHO LOS AMIGOS, CA
SITE DESIGN and SCOPE OF WORK: Located in the City of Downey, and County of Los Angeles, the campus of the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (Rancho Los Amigos or RLA) is 122 acres and includes a hospital, an outpatient facility, a wellness center, administrative buildings, and rehabilitation clinics. After the removal of Building 100 the planned extension of Leeds Street, as the campus’s central spine, will be a direct East-West link from Old River School Road to Rives Avenue. This spine will have direct access to new buildings and will be strategically landscaped to act as a buffer zone, creating a sense of safety and privacy behind pedestrian and vehicular circulation. The completion of Leeds Street to Rives Avenue will likely follow the completion of RCC/RTP projects.

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT A
AMBIENT HOUSE RESIDENTIAL
Located in a narrow street alley in Saigon Chinatown, Cho Lon, it is an old two-stacking story townhouse of two generation. Designed in section, the proposal aims to renovate the house into multiple nested floors structure to maximize the living space in this concrete structure, 3 beds, 4 ½ baths. Like most typical traditional Vietnamese tube houses in this Cho Lon community, the living volume is restricted by three adjacent houses leaving only half of the front façade exposed to street view. In this situation, the basic idea is to maximize the aperture of the front and the top to fill the interior living space with daylight and breeze. Volumes were carved out in the rear and center for light atriums. Through the process of situating these elements, architecture programs were set around the natural daylight and cool breeze that it was introduced to; while plants and rustic materials help accentuate the sense of nature in the middle of busy urban habitation.
