H-compact: efficient cooling and low noise The H-compact series includes high-voltage induction motors with surface and internal cooling (t.e.f.c. motors). By optimizing the rib cooling and providing additional internal cooling, this cooling design is practical for large motor outputs, both from technical and cost-effective perspectives. With the appropriate electrical design and optimized mechanical design, outputs up to 3,000 kW can be achieved. The motor is air-cooled. For all of the motors, the air enters at the non-drive end. Most of the heat losses are transmitted from the laminated stator core to the ribbed motor frame. Here it is dissipated by the cooling airflow. The remaining loss, which mainly comprises the heat losses of the rotor and in part the stator winding ends, is transmitted to the frame through the internal cooling circuit.

Fan versions Fan and fan cowl are aerodynamically optimized.

The external air is blown over the cooling ribs by the external fan, whereby the cooling airflow passes along the ribs from the non-drive end to the drive end by virtue of the frame waisting. The frame and end shields have been designed for optimum flow to obtain a higher rate of heat dissipation. There are no obstacles in the cooling airflow as the terminal boxes are mounted away from the ribs. The frame zones around the stator winding ends are provided with internal ribs and play a more significant role in dissipating heat.

â– External fans: For motors with 4 and higher number of poles, the fans are designed for one direction of rotation and are manufactured from metal in order to reduce the noise and increase the efficiency. Smaller motors, up to average shaft heights, have plastic fans and are bidirectional. 2-pole motors normally have unidirectional aluminum axial fans.

â– Internal fans: Metal, bidirectional fans are always used.

Cooling principle with external cooling air flow and internal cooling circuit

4

The internal cooling circuit is harmonized to the conditions in a totally enclosed motor. The internal fan at the non-drive end draws the air through ventilation holes in the rotor. The airflow at the internal ribs of the frame and end shields is subject to heavy turbulence and is thoroughly cooled. The frame acts as heat exchanger between the internal and external cooling air. The cooled air returns to the drive end through 4 air ducts in the frame in the same direction as the external cooling air. This co-directional principle results in uniform heat dissipation and – particularly for the drive-end bearing – in low temperatures. The heat dissipation is conceived for a particularly long service life by keeping the winding and bearing temperatures evenly distributed between the drive and non-drive ends. H-compact is extremely quiet This is achieved, among other things, by using an air inlet cowl manufactured from fiberglass-reinforced plastic or metal. Metal fan cowls are provided with noise-absorbing mountings. For particularly high demands, sound-reducing modules are available. – Special fan cowls with integrated air inlet damper – Noise-absorbing frame jackets

H-compact: frame and end shield The motor frame and the end shield are ribbed and manufactured from cast iron. A sophisticated design, e. g. frame details, internal ribs in the area of the stator winding overhang, and box section feet over the complete length give the frame very high strength and rigidity. Four axial ducts for guiding the internal cooling air are evenly distributed in the frame. The main and auxiliary terminal boxes are bolted to the two upper ducts which also accommodate the winding and monitoring leads.
