01 Paper Cafe Paper Cafe derives from the natural state of a tree and what it produces. Sap becomes rubber, wood can become flooring or tile, and bark can be used for medicinal purposes. The inspiration for this design comes from the many elements that nature provides. Paper Cafe showcases the cafe portion of a food innovation lab which integrates paper tiles and local Ghanaian wood.

The design of the tile started with examining the nature of tree bark and how it is formed. Paper Cafe focuses on using natural material such as paper and rubber tiles. Because those materials both come from trees, it was important to study each element’s texture and characteristics and apply that to the tile.

02 Lavande Hostel
The design for Lavande Hostel began with the idea of relaxation. Because the design stems from Singaporean and Malay’s Peranakan culture, it called for pulling from the culture’s softness and integrating that into the design. It’s color scheme includes pastels-greens, blue, and pink.

Concept Study
Peranakan Culture blends both Malay and Singapore customs. The culture focuses on the feminine colors, shapes, textures and decor. Soft purples, pinks and pastels separate what makes Peranakan culture unique from others.

The exploration of the Peranakan tile started with understanding cultural colors and shapes. Peranakan culture is heavily influenced by feminine shapes, colors, and textures. Each tile morphs into various soft shapes including swirls, circles, and any shape with rounded angles.

03 Yelp The Tenant Improvement project is located in sunny San Francisco with a scope of 40,000 square feet. Because of the services that Yelp provides, the design called for a community feeling which lead to the theme of a backyard BBQ. Airy, comfortable, and freeing all describe the feeling of the space. The introduction of biophilia into Yelp allows the team of the work environment to have a sense of openness. Greenery in the open office gives a fresh feeling and bright colors in combination with brick allows a sense of community.

04 FRESH Farmer’s Market The goal of this project was to design 19th Street Bart in a way that blends the locality of Oakland in with BART’s function. The purpose of BART is to transport persons from one place to another while providing clean, safe and reliable public transportation . The task was to include its local businesses into the staple of the Bay Area. This project showcases a Farmer’s Market that will include local growers of fruits and vegetables that can be swapped out depending on the day of the week. The design of the farmer’s market allows for each business to pack up and move out which lets the next business set up quickly while also allowing easy access for fast-moving consumers.
In collaboration with Jordan Vorabouth
