Peggy VanAman has been a vital part of keeping Oakhurst’s history alive since she moved to the area and friends got her involved with Fresno Flats. She has been director of the historical board and has organized Heritage Days for 10 years. “It’s a great group of people working at the historical sites — some are there on a daily basis — keeping history alive in Oakhurst,” VanAman said. “It’s a great place to spend time.
Adele is current president of Madera County Cattle Women and is on the California Cattle Women’s Board of Directors. “We were very surprised and honored,” Adele said about the selection as Heritage Days Grand Marshals.

Parade kicks off Heritage Days Mountain Heritage Days festivities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the annual parade. Many community organizations and local residents participate for trophies and ribbons by marching the 2-mile parade route. Floats, horses, cars, bands and children on bikes with a historical theme provide an entertaining opening to the annual event. Heritage Days is the major annual fundraiser for the Sierra Historic Sites Association and the Fresno Flats Historical Park, and orgainizers are expecting 2,000 attendees. The parade route will be the same as in previous years, starting at Yosemite High School on School Road (427) and ending at

A paranormal tour of Fresno Flats Historical Park will be lead by investigators from Central Valley Seekers at 9 p.m. Saturday. Laura Huddleson, the park caretaker who lives on the property, is a believer. “We do have spirits here,” Huddleson said. “There is nothing scary here. These are the spirits of family members, including children, that lived in these structure at one time. When you have contact with them, it’s a good feeling you get.”

Central Valley Seekers has conducted significant work in all the buildings at Fresno Flats in the past year and a half, including a Solar Eclipse experiment on July 21 in the Laramore House, which produced miraculous results, according to Peggy Armer. “There has been interaction with spirit children in the school house,” Armer said. “We have experienced hearing giggles and tugging at our clothing.” Armer confirms Huddleson’s feelings about the spirit of Mary Laramore.

Thomas Durant, the cohost of Altered States Paranormal Radio, has visited the house and reports, “We not only made contact with the spirit of Mary, but also a small child. We were also able to find two subtle audio anomalies, which resembled a human voice.” The tour will includeinvestigations of the Laramore-Lyman House, Taylor log house, Cunningham School building and the Raymond Jail. MOUNTAIN HERITAGE DAYS…
Parade kicks off Heritage Days Mountain Heritage Days festivities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with the annual parade. Many community organizations and local residents participate for trophies and ribbons by marching the 2-mile parade route. Floats, horses, cars, bands and children on bikes with a historical theme provide an entertaining opening to the annual event. Heritage Days is the major annual fundraiser for the Sierra Historic Sites Association and the Fresno Flats Historical Park, and orgainizers are expecting 2,000 attendees. The parade route will be the same as in previous years, starting at Yosemite High School on School Road (427) and ending at

sist in serving. During and after dinner, music will be provided by Bud Laird and Friend. Tickets for the dinner cost $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under and can be purchased from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Fresno Flats Historical Park museum.

Peggy VanAman has been a vital part of keeping Oakhurst’s history alive since she moved to the area and friends got her involved with Fresno Flats. She has been director of the historical board and has organized Heritage Days for 10 years. “It’s a great group of people working at the historical sites — some are there on a daily basis — keeping history alive in Oakhurst,” VanAman said. “It’s a great place to spend time.
Adele is current president of Madera County Cattle Women and is on the California Cattle Women’s Board of Directors. “We were very surprised and honored,” Adele said about the selection as Heritage Days Grand Marshals.
