Co-Owner
To be able to offer great service to people we care about – what could be more fun? That is exactly what Dan and I have been doing since 1978. We had a wonderful small business mentor in my Dad, Hugh Shollenbarger, the originator of the Talking Bear. Any organizational skills I have picked up over the years I owe to Dan, the King of Clean and Tidy. And after raising three boys and being a woman in a male dominated work world - I feel like a Queen! What could be better?

Juanita Summers
Taylor
Juanita and her husband used to raise Chinchillas in Southern CA. While attending a local Chowchilla show they happened to see that the Old Corral Grocery Store was for sale. They made a life changing decision, and Juanita and her husband started their first day on the job July 1, 1974.
Are you a “Big City Girl” in a small town?
The Old Corral originally opened in 1936 and remains like something out of Mayberry! Be assured you will get the same service! The original apartment was removed to make room for more merchandise. Juanita stocks everything customers might need. Fishing & Hunting licenses, many live and shiny baits, fishing poles and equipment, camping supplies, ice cream, beer, wine camping supplies and of course groceries. The couple is looking forward to traveling and playing golf and would love to have someone buy them out. Make them an offer they can’t refuse! The Old Corral is open 7 days a week 8am-8pm except Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving when they close at 2:30pm to spend time with the family.
For that updated and current style that’s just right for your face and your age, call Taylor. Specializing in studying the shape and bone structure of you facial features, Taylor will create the perfect signature cut, revealing your natural beauty.

Laura Backmann When I was a child, I watched my father make the adjustments from running a large business corporation in a huge city to running a self-employed shop in the country. His motive was always clear – bring his family to a small town community. He made many sacrifices, but he did business with honor. He was always successful. My dad was my mentor and he is my hero! Karen Box Owner/Operator
Karen Box has been in business since 1985 and still has many of her original clients. She truly enjoys her work and has a very loyal following. Trustworthy and very dependable, she finds room in her schedule for all her clients. Karen has ventured into all kinds of businesses (she is also a Nurse’s Assistant and has incorporated that into her service) but housekeeping remains a priority. There is a joke amongst Karen’s clients – in order to get on Karen’s cleaning schedule or even her waiting list, someone has either to move or die, but she is worth the wait.

Sharon is no stranger to the hospitality food/ beverage industry. Originally from Banning, she relocated here when her husband Bill was offered the GM position at Yosemite Gateway Best Western. Shortly thereafter she took over as the Food & Beverage Director at the restaurant. Sharon’s biggest inspiration is her husband, “He inspired me to realize my potential and strive for success” Her favorite part of the job is being her own boss. She is in charge of day to day operations of the restaurant, kitchen & banquet facilities. Sharon has realized that she is a take charge person and loves to see her pre-planning allow everything to move smoothly. The lounge is in the middle of a remodel but the restaurant is still open for breakfast & dinner. She is excited about the upcoming “Locals Only” dinner specials for $10.95.

Born and raised in the area, Jaycee David and her husband and business partner Matt are long time mountain residents. They made the decision to raise their family here, and in July 2005 had the opportunity to purchase Mountain Aire Seamless Gutter. Taking over the business from Jaycee’s father, Steve Bates, another long time resident who has owned and operated Mountain Aire Heating and Air Conditioning for over 28 years, proved a wise decision, and the business has been going strong ever since. Pick up the phone and call for information and it is Jaycee who will answer your questions. In addition to seamless aluminum gutters, available in over 30 colors, they do custom gutters, copper and fascia and offer free estimates. “We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and are members of the Better Business Bureau,” explains Jaycee. Mountain Air Seamless Gutter is fully licensed and insured.

We are now in our thirteenth year. We want to thank all of our loyal customers for supporting us during this time! We are a family-owned business, with my husband, “Mike,” of thirty-five years and our oldest of four boys, “Mike,” working together to provide the only dry cleaning service in the Mountain Area that processes all items on site. Yes, we offer “same-day service” at no extra charge. We also provide linen rental service to many local businesses. This service includes rental of towels, aprons, table linens, uniforms, entrance mats, rest room service, etc. We employ a wonderful staff which has more than doubled since we took over in 1997. Ask about our “Express Service”. You can “drop and go” with your personal express bags. We take Visa, MasterCard & American Express. We are honored to clean and press all military uniforms and American flags at no cost to our customers

I have always been inspired by my mom. I’ve always loved to bake and making candy is just an extension of that. I went to a chocolate demo given by friend Pam Carter and my “Candy Queen” was born! For almost 27 years now, I have looked forward to each day. I still love coming to work. Every day brings new challenges, whether it’s making a basket or creating unique party favors. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s very rewarding. We have a fun atmosphere and are surrounded with fun seasonal merchandise that is constantly changing.

My Godmother, Geri Waldemarsen is my continual inspiration. She is strong and loyal in her faith and she is not afraid to share that faith with anyone who will listen. She is always there for me and always reminds me of the Lord’s love for me.
Competing and showing her own dogs originally sparked owner Stacie Popejoy’s interest in the dog grooming business. Educated as a trainer and animal behaviorist, she has groomed on and off for 15 years. Dogs were her life . . . . . . until she met her husband Brian. After becoming pregnant, Stacie (who was working as a bookkeeper) realized that she no longer wanted to make a living sitting behind a desk. With the support of her husband, Stacie launched her new career and Waggin’ Tails Grooming opened for business in July of this year.

I really love this town! Everyone has really been there for me during good and bad times. I don’t know what I would have done without my church, friends and most of all the support of my family. I hope I have helped the community through my donations and the quality of service we strive to provide. After all everyone likes candy and balloons.

My very first hero was my adopted father (who has raised me since six yrs of age). He taught me that love is unconditional; that honor, truth and respect are the most important things you can give to another person and to yourself. To this day he is still my hero. I love working in the small community of Yosemite Lakes Park. I live and work in YLP, attend Yosemite Lakes Community Church, my daughter attends Rivergold School, and my husband owns a local business. I live and work in this community, among my family and friends, and wouldn’t want it any other way. I would hope to be remembered as a woman who loved life. A fun filled, hard working, giving, loving, faithful; servant, wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. That would make me smile.

Fourth of July 1982 saw us moving into this newly rebuilt Raintree Building...it was a two-story building before the fire...sheer terror kept me going at that point and here we are a few years later. My mentor at that time was Dick McMechan, with whom I worked, and he encouraged me to give it a shot. As many remember back then, the Frameworks/Giftworks was one. Annie spent her first year on the counter with her momma helping to frame.Randy took over framing; Casey was born in ‘86 and here we are. We have a great selection of country gifts, cards, books, scrapbooking supplies, antiques, Jim Shore, Willow Tree Angels, Lang paper goods, Yankee candles, Colonial, great teapots, teas, and Mariposa Coffees. Randy (FRAMEWORKS) and I invite you to stop by and say hello. Browse both our locations. We thank all our customers for their loyal support of our family over the years...the best thing about being in business in Oakhurst is the people we meet…thank you all.

I started my career at Wood Choppers over 15 years ago – at the bottom. I did it all from answering phones to scrubbing floors. Bill had complete faith in me from the very start and began teaching me the fundamentals of the business. Over the years, I gained the expertise to answer technical questions regarding new products, to build relationships with vendors for parts, and to diagnose, repair and service equipment. My customers know and appreciate my ability to serve them well in this community. My heart-felt thanks to a great boss who had the faith to teach a Woman – a Man’s business.

The rumors are true! Liz Is Grooming takes up residence inside Barking Lot. I am so happy to have her here. Liz’s grooming talents are astounding. Our philosophies are the same and we both agree that our love and passion for grooming makes this the best job on earth. This is just one of many changes coming in the next couple of months. Along with new faces will be new names, upgrades to our shop, and a celebration open house in January 2010. Don’t worry, our low prices will remain! The Cigarette Shack has seen many Cigarette changes since opening it’s doors in Shack 1996. However, through these trying times, The Shack continues to stay strong into its 14th year. Julie Hoetker and Jean Field, twin sisters who own and operate the business, attribute their success to their loyal customers. In addition to a wide variety of tobacco products and supplies, the girls continue to provide warm, friendly service in a family atmosphere.
I was inspired to enter the field of redesign, decorating and staging when I no longer wanted to work in full-on interior design. Today I get inspiration from my clients needs. Services now include:

In addition to grooming services for dogs and cats, she offers teeth cleaning, microchipping, boarding, pickup and delivery and a whole lot more! Stop by today!

Prior to that I was located in North Premier Real Estate Fork, where I once owned North Fork Realty. Coldwell Banker has had different broker/owners, and we are now under the brokerage of George Murphy and Coldwell Banker premier Real Estate. Our beautifully refurbished office on Hwy. 41 is now full service, with two experienced Murphy Home Loan Specialists. I am a Native Californian, a ranch girl from Strathmore and a graduate of the University of the Pacific in Stockton. Eastern Madera County has been my home since 1961. My family moved to Oakhurst to work with my father and mother in a brand new business. They opened Matthews Fine Furniture in March of 1986. My husband David and I worked for them until 1996 and then we took over the family business. Our two sons Casey and Scott started working with us while they were in high school. After leaving for a couple of years both boys decided to move back to Oakhurst and come back to the furniture business. We carry well known brands such as Broyhill, La-Z-Boy, Lane, Pulaski, Simmons and Spring Air. We service the entire mountain community, including Mariposa, North Fork and Coarsegold. 42255 Hwy. 41, Oakhurst • 559-683-3998

Christin knew she would never enjoy a desk job, so when the opportunity arose to work at her best friend’s grooming salon she jumped at the chance. She learned from two exceptional groomers and soon discovered a love of the art. Ten years later, she still loves her job! Christin enjoys her clients, their animals and the creativity she finds in grooming. Palace Pet Grooming opened in February of 2008 and one year later expanded into the current location. “I’m always surprised by how much my clients count on me to groom their loved ones. I’m so pleased that they know they can depend on me! I will always be there for my extended family. I couldn’t do this without the support of my loyal customers, friends and family!”
