MUSIC As part of SIFA v2.020, SOURCE x Audible Lands sees cross-cultural encounters between experimental band The Observatory, filmmaker Eric Lee, and music groups from the migrant-worker community presented through 5 teaser vodcasts. This digital series spotlights the processes and performances of Isan Band by Friends of Thai Workers Association; Myanmar’s Than Naing and his guitar ensemble; and from Bangladesh: Banglar Kantha-Dibashram Cultural Group, violinist-singer Billal Hossain and friends, with music teacher and keyboardist Malay Ghosh and band. Containing a range of folk to pop to devotional music and deeply influenced by South and Southeast Asian traditions, these humane documentations provide a glimpse into Singapore’s diverse and discrete musical landscape. You can now watch the first teaser vodcast on SIFA All-Access. Do stay tuned to SIFA v2.020 to catch the remaining four vodcasts in the upcoming weeks!
THEATRE From now to 14 June, SIFA v2.020 is screening A Dream Under the Southern Bough: Reverie, the second of a trilogy by Toy Factory Productions. A modern reinterpretation of distinguished Ming Dynasty Playwright Tan Xian Zu’s Kun Opera performance of the same name, the story explores what sets realities and dreams apart. Catch it with English subtitles on SIFA All-Access while it’s still available!

PANELS AND TALKS Now that theatres are shut indefinitely and productions are placed on hold, it is important for art practitioners to not only remain positive but also think of new ways to create and share their work with audiences during this new normal. On 25 May, Festival Director Gaurav Kripalani, together with SIFA 2020’s four local festivalcommissioned companies, took a collective leap to imagine ways the arts must innovate to pivot for the future. This panel included Nine Years Theatre, Toy Factory, The Necessary Stage and The Finger Players, who discussed the opportunities and challenges unleashed by COVID-19 for the arts, as they consider new modes of creating and thriving during the pandemic. Catch In Conversation: Pivoting for the Future on SIFA All-Access!

Separately on 29 May, we held a rare conversation with legendary artist Anne Bogart about her artistic process and her works, and the challenges and thrills of international cultural collaborations today. Pioneering theatre director Anne Bogart co-founded SITI Company with Tadashi Suzuki and a group of like-minded artists in 1992 to redefine and revitalise contemporary theatre in the United States through an emphasis on international cultural exchange and collaboration. Her books from A Director Prepares to The Viewpoints Book have guided and inspired legions of actors and directors. Through her productions with SITI Company, she has revolutionised the way we see theatre. In Conversation with Anne Bogart is available on SIFA All-Access from now to 6 June!
