RETURNING WHEN NEEDED MOST
Michael Brennan (Slippery Rock ’84) on Setting Gamma-Delta Up for a Successful Recolonization
by Will Marsh (Pennington & Company), contributing writerThough Gamma-Delta lost its charter in the mid-1990s, its passionate alumni never wavered. Slippery Rock University has enjoyed alumni’s continued presence for over 40 years, whether at Homecoming or various other Slippery Rock committees. Gamma-Delta’s Homecoming numbers grew stronger still over the last five years, prompting a group of motivated brothers to explore a Sigma Pi return to Slippery Rock.
“When we approached the University to request recolonization, we were given the green light with open arms,” says Michael Brennan (Slippery Rock ’84), the planned advisor for the future colony. He credits that warm reception to the strong school support his fellow brothers have shown for decades.
Enthusiasm to return has only grown, as alumni quickly raised the necessary funds to establish a Chapter Educational Fund. This
gives Gamma-Delta a strong financial foundation for its regrowth on campus. Mike admits he didn’t immediately seek out the advisor position, but Brothers Dean Piccirillo (’85) and Eric “Web” Wangler (’84) asked him to take it at Homecoming. “The answer ‘YES’ just escaped my mouth before I could even think about it,” he said. “I want to help fulfill our 25-year dream to bring the Chapter back, and I don’t plan on letting anyone down.”
