ENTER THE ARENA A NEW ERA IN WEB3 GAMING

Interview with Marie Giorgobiani & Mikheil Didebulidze

Words by Matthew Calleja

Arena Games are revolutionising the gaming experience of millions, converging cutting-edge Web3 technology with traditional Web2 games. The platform is bridging the gap between the two, fixing pertinent issues with modern solutions.

The traditional gaming industry is a massive, diverse conglomerate of different types of games, design styles, and platforms, appealing to millions across a wide range of ages and cultural groups. The industry has also proven to be remarkably resilient to external factors, growing its global annual revenue by 9.3% during 2020, to more than $159 billion.

Despite its success, the industry is not without problems. Traditional games are plagued by issues like broken economies, unfair pay-towin models, and low discoverability for small and medium-sized game studios. These problems impact both gamers and developers alike.

“Transitioning from Web2 gaming to Web3 holds many of the solutions to these issues,” explained Marie Giorgobiani, COO at Arena Games. “At Arena Games, we’re focusing on making this very transition as seamless as possible. The platform aims to bring the world of Web2 multiplayer games into the era of Web3.”

Marie Giorgobiani represented Arena Games during Malta Week’s AIBC Gamefi Pitch last November. Following a riveting competition, she took the trophy home after wooing the judges with an engaging presentation.

The advent of Web3 technologies has great potential to transform the gaming industry, addressing these long-standing issues. Through GameFi platforms, these technologies can offer numerous solutions, such as the creation of a circular economy, “no-ads” policies, fair competition across the blockchain, and a decentralised approach to gaming.

For players, Arena Games is a library system of games, where, by opening one account, they have access to dozens of blockchain games that use a single token system, so they do not need to constantly buy or exchange different on-chain tokens, losing money on network fees. Furthermore, in a decentralised gaming ecosystem such as this, players have the ability to own their in-game digital assets, allowing for the transfer of rewards and items across different projects and providing a more equitable gaming experience.

THE ARENA GAMES PLATFORM AIMS TO BRING THE WORLD OF WEB2 MULTIPLAYER GAMES INTO THE ERA OF WEB3.

“We envision the platform facilitating the onboarding of new developers to this fresh market. It will provide a full-stack solution with a wide array of blockchain gaming technologies for both existing and new games on Web2,” remarked Giorgobiani. The platform will launch on the Binance BNB Chain with plans to expand to other networks in the future. “Developers will be able to integrate the platform quickly and easily through an SDK-based solution, without having to worry about tokenomics or blockchain development resources.”

The team boasts a significant background in game development. They founded a mobile game development company called Sambrela and have produced over 25 traditional games. The first game released on Arena Games was developed by Sambrela and is available for free on both iOS and Android.

When it comes to collaborations, the team meticulously chooses partner companies whose vision aligns with the platform’s. They constantly keep track of market developments and advancements in technology to identify growth and improvement opportunities.

Game jams are a particularly good outlet by which the team extends its reach to promising developers after experiencing their games firsthand. Through a scholarship program, the team also funds the development of game prototypes that will eventually be boarded onto the platform. To continue cultivating the player community, they form partnerships with other Gamefi projects.

The development of Arena Games has been in full swing for the last four months. The team has successfully deployed an MVP version of the platform on the testnet, including authentication, user profiles, token swap, Binance Pay implementation, and a connection to their first game, Arena Master. Users can now register, download the game, and participate in the Beta Test campaign. The team is now moving on to the NFT aspect of the platform, including building the marketplace, NFT tracking, and releasing the first collection.

NFTs are the primary source of revenue for the project, with a fully-supported marketplace working hand-in-hand with P2E video games. The assets are all usable within the games on the platform. After a successful first round of fundraising, the team is planning a second round post-launch of the platform, following a demonstration of traction and favourable statistics. Ultimately, the team’s long-term goal is to become a community-driven portal that offers quality gaming experiences alongside opportunities for learning, sharing, co-creation, and co-building. Step-bystep, the variety of games on the platform will be built up into the conglomerate from before, including educational games, VR gaming, and AI tools. Integration within the looming Metaverse is also in the picture.

DEVELOPERS WILL BE ABLE TO INTEGRATE THE PLATFORM QUICKLY AND EASILY THROUGH AN SDKBASED SOLUTION, WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT TOKENOMICS OR BLOCKCHAIN DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES.
