Accommodation is available in Kerang for those wishing to stay the night before or after the sale. Kerang is roughly a 20 minute drive and has several pubs and places to eat in the township.

Visitor Safety
Whilst every care has been taken to ensure your comfort and safety whilst you’re at the venue please be aware that animals can be unpredictable. This will be a new environment for both you and the cattle. All the cattle in the sale have been screened for temperament however are more use to roaming their paddocks and not being held in pens.
We do not expect any animals to be agitated around people however we do ask that where possible you allow the cattle to have space.
Please feel free to ask any of the Nutrien Staff or BDS staff to escort you if you so desire and please always exercise common sense.
We also ask that you do not take prams or young children in the pens for safety reasons
Transport
There will be several carriers present at the sale. The cattle are welcome to stay on the farm after the sale for a few days to help coordinate transport to their new homes. Leaving the cattle is however at the owner’s risk and we do encourage cattle that have to stay at the farm to be insured. As the saying goes “We will take all care, but no responsibility” after the fall of the hammer.

All bulls have passed a crush side semen evaluation conducted by Keith Peterson of Ovasem Animal Reproductive Solutions, Girgary, Vic in the presence of Dr Lachlan Ferring of Border Veterinary Clinic, Cohuna, on the 10th of May 2023
Females
A preliminary pregnancy status has been conducted by Dr Amanda Ferring on the 19/4/2023 for the catalogue to go to print. ALL females will be rechecked by Dr Lachlan Ferring of Border Veterinary Clinic, Cohuna on the 10th of May 2023
All cattle have been VET checked for soundness by Dr Lachlan Ferring of Border Veterinary Clinic, Cohuna on the 10th of May 2023. BDS is committed to only selling cattle that are fit and healthy to give them the best chance when they arrive at their new homes.
Guarantee
Black Diamond Speckle Parks have taken the utmost care to prepare these cattle for the sale.
All Bulls are sold as passing a crush side semen test. If a bull is proven to be infertile or unable to complete natural service within 6 months of the sale date, the vendor will either provide a suitable replacement or a sale credit equal to the purchase price less salvage value, to be used within 12 months of the sale date.
Females sold are guaranteed breeders for 6 months from day of sale. Females are either sold as PTIC or guaranteed to fall pregnant provided they have not undertaken any Embryo Transfer work. A confirmed pregnancy does not guarantee a live and healthy calf.
It is the responsibility of the purchaser to provide a certificate to verify infertility from a registered veterinarian within 6 months of the day of sale. The certificate must state that the infertility was not the result of an illness, injury or misadventure. The guarantee only covers the purchase price of the animal, without interest, costs and damages.
Please remember these are animals and come with an element of risk. Please consider insuring your purchases as these cattle are an extremely valuable part of your business. Formal possession and responsibility pass to the buyer at the fall of the hammer.

RAW DATA & BREEDPLAN
All cattle in the sale have had raw data submitted to breed plan to help increase the accuracy of their individual EBV’s. All sale cattle were scanned by Roger Evans of Bovine Scanning Services Pty Ltd, (accreditation number: 1018) on the 2nd of February 2023. This was several months later than normal given the weather conditions, but every attempt was made to keep the cattle in as larger groups as possible to keep the data as relevant as possible.

Dna Testing
All registered cattle in the sale have a 50K SNP profile completed and will be sold parent verified unless otherwise stated. They have also been tested for the poll, red and myostatin genes with this information printed in the catalogue with each individual lot.

SEMEN RIGHTS & EMBRYOS
Black Diamond Speckle Parks have retained the right to collect semen from a number of bulls in the sale. Each semen right is disclosed in the individual lot. With the exception of Lot 4 BDS S1200, the collected semen is for in herd use only and there is to be no further call on the bull.
None of the females included in the sale catalogue have been used in an ET program. The females in the sale sell with their whole life ahead of them and we’re sure many are donor worthy once they prove themselves as cows.
All embryos sold in the sale are Grade 1 or “A” Grade embryos. Where implanted by a registered and approved embryo technician BDS guarantees one 90day pregnancy on each lot of embryos sold in the sale. Embryos will be sold on a price per embryo and the total price of the lot will be the number of embryos times the money. Eg. $1000 per embryo with 3 embryos in the lot will be charged at $3000 plus GST
Colour Pattern Guide
Speckle Park cattle colour patterns can be defined by four colour patterns, white, leopard, speckled and solid black. Leopard and speckled colour patterns are genetically the same with a differing degree of spotting. Some cattle also carry a recessive red gene this has the potential to produce calves with red coat colour if both parents carry the gene. Please use the below colour chart as a guide to achieve your breeding goals.

Talk about punch and eye appeal, we feel that Smack That is the ideal Speckle Park bull.
A larger framed bull that demands attention, Smack That is sure to lift your breeding program to the next level. With his tremendous length, sheer weight and his impressive muscle pattern. A bull that will be hard to part with.
SEASON OPENER, as the name suggests, is one of the lead off bulls for this year’s sale. We rated this bull so highly he was our mature bull for the Sydney feature show.
A bull who is incredibly balanced and mobile yet is so soft and correct. He is everything we expected Farr-Out would produce and is the first son of RH Farr-Out to be offered in Victoria.
We believe Season Opener has stud sire potential written all over him.
His dam M36 was selected as a donor female after a short show career as a heifer and her progeny are featured throughout the sale. His small birth weight EBV of +0.5 ranks him in the top 15% for calving ease making him an ideal heifer option.

Here is one of the first chances to secure full blood genetics from the Legacy program here in Australia. The Sassafras cow line has left its stamp where ever its gone, renowned for high capacity and highly fertile females with tremendous udders.

Sauvignon Blanc is the first progeny in Australia out of one of our newest cow families, INC Pinot Grigio 67G. We selected this female as a standout in the Leading Edge sale a few years ago and were impressed by not only her own performance but that of all of her siblings as well.
Her full flush brother had the highest feed conversion out of the entire bull sale draft and went on to sell to Underhill Specs.
Sauvignon Blanc has an impressive data set with EBVs ranking in the Top 10% for Mature cow, Top 15% for EMA, Carcass weight and 400 & 600 day weights.
Females
This years female offering are some of our very best directly from the heart of our herd.
As we shift from what has become a extended calving period to prodimantly autumn calving, we decided to offer some of our later calving cows and the majority of our late born heifers for your competition. These are by no means the culls, just unfortunately for us they were born to late to suit our ideal calving window.
As you can see they were joined for a very short period to two of our best Show string bulls. Information on these bulls is on pages 10 & 11.
