introduction
The Jamber Jubilee sale is something I have been thinking about for a while now.
After two decades of breeding – and, in light of our recent successes – I feel now is a great time to offer some of our best up for auction.
A special thanks goes out to a lot of people along this journey who have helped get me to this point. We have been fortunate to have enjoyed some pretty successful shows in recent years.
It was special to win Champion Jersey at Sydney Royal Show for the last two successive years with Burnside Victorious Honey (2023) and Jamber Colton Veronica (2024, owned with Cherrylock Cattle Co). To also bring home Grand Champion Jersey at IDW 2024 with Veronica represented another important personal milestone for me.
I have always been deeply interested in breeding cows and building strong maternal lines from cows that perform in the show ring and in the herd. The last few years we have invested heavily in getting into the top families domestically and internationally to try and further strengthen and diversify our genetics.
For me, the cow that started it all was Miami Elmo Lady 14th (see her story on page 16). She developed into an important brood and foundation cow for Jamber Jerseys. It wouldn’t have been possible if the late John Flemming of Miami Jerseys hadn’t given me a great opportunity.
Crossover of achievement and investment
It’s no secret that milking cows can be very hard and we see a lot of things in farming that would break a lot of people. We are all in it every day, 24/7. So, without some kind of passion, it’s hard to imagine where we would all find the drive to continue.
Good cows make farming interesting, and when I was speaking to Murribrook’s Murray Sowter just before we decided to push “go” on our Jamber Jubilee Sale, he said that we shouldn’t be afraid to sell our good ones, and that we should back ourselves because the good cows would keep coming if we were using the right bulls.
Murray’s words not only helped make up my mind, it also reminded me of the support I’ve had along the way.
So, in the same spirit of making opportunities available for our next generation, we would like to offer any young person – aged between 15 to 21 – the chance to discuss alternative terms, if they are interested in any of the heifer lots. Please feel free to contact myself or any of the sale staff.
A few sale lots will sell with their entries already completed for the 2025 Sydney Royal, leading into the Jersey World Conference show.

A VERY SPECIAL “LADY”
Robbie Wilson was 15 years old when he first met the “Lady” who would ignite his passion for registered Jerseys.
He was at the Sydney Royal Easter Show with his parents –fourth generation Holstein breeders – who were tied across the aisle from the then stewards of Miami Jerseys – John and Gwen Flemming. During the week, Robbie became fascinated with one young two-year-old in Miami’s string. When John shared that they would selling her at the end of the year in the NSW AGM sale, Robbie’s fascination switched to determination.
The young cow was Miami Elmo Lady 14th, and she finished second in her class that year.
“After I got home, all I was thinking about was buying her,” Robbie said. “We hadn’t long been showing ourselves, and Miami had half babysat us for that show. I remember I made a lot of phone calls leading into the sale to John about how I’d like to buy her, because I had convinced Mum and Dad to let me spend up to $3000.
“But I was worried I wouldn’t have enough money for her at that. So, after another call to John he offered to give me a sale credit if she made more than $3000. I ended up buying her that day for $3600.”
Heifers, showtime and production
Paying his parents back involved more milkings than Robbie cares to remember. He was paid $10 a milking at that time. He negotiated with his father to push his rate up to $15 a milking. The effort now goes down as an investment that owes him nothing and taught him everything.
He took Elmo Lady home and joined her to Furor. She gave him a heifer, and then she continued on to give Robbie 10 more heifers that classified up to to EX92. Elmo Lady 14th has 81 direct maternal descendants in Jamber’s herd – not including the descendants sired by Lady’s sons. Her most notable daughter was JAMBER JADE LADY EX92, who was Supreme Champion at the Sydney Royal in 2008, and twice Reserve Champion Jersey at IDW (2008 and 2009).
Lady, who classified to EX90 herself, was so much more than an important founding brood cow. She was also a “tremendous production cow” and she remained competitive at local shows throughout her career.
Her lifetime production in eight lactations was 76,322 litres. 3.62% 2760kgP, 4.33% 3308kgF. Her best lactation was 10,309 litres, 3.52% 363kgP, 4.18% 431kgF in 305D with a PI of 126.
He said Elmo Lady has also been an important lesson for him about buying animals.
“She showed me that you don’t have to always go out and buy that top, top one for the biggest price. She was $3600 and it was enough money back then, but it wasn’t like silly money, and she went on to give us the best of production and breeding.
“I still owe a massive thanks to John and Gwen for their generosity in helping me out when I was young and keen.”
Now, Jamber Jerseys is ready to share the family.
“She remains a very special investment for me. She has left an ongoing legacy for us to continue with, and we have included 11 descendants in the sale because it seemed fitting that the cow that really started it all for me was part of our anniversary celebrations.
“Because of her, I am hooked on this industry.”
