Celine Homme’s Hedi Slimane explores “Dysfunctional Bauhaus” in his SS23 collection

Celine Homme recently debuted its Summer 2023 collection with a runway show titled “Dysfunctional Bauhaus.” The show marked a significant milestone for Hedi Slimane, the creative director of Celine Homme. It celebrated the 20th anniversary of Hedi Slimane’s first show at Palais de Tokyo back in January 2002 for Dior Homme’s AW2002.

Showcasing a perfect balance of punk and luxury, which is emblematic of Slimane’s style, the collection draws its inspiration from Bauhaus - a revolutionary art movement that originated in Germany in the early 20th century. No doubt, a hint at Slimane’s formative years spent in Berlin. The Bauhaus art movement was known for its embrace of modernism, functionality, and minimalism.

The show presented sheer and embellished tops, and skinny neckties paired with sleek suits. Stovepipe leather trousers and raw-edged denim paid homage to the glory days of rock music.

The show’s standout pieces were the leather jackets that featured intricate stitching and embellishments, bringing a touch of luxury to the rugged and rockinspired aesthetic. The collection also featured a range of accessories, including leather belts, studded bracelets, and chunky chain necklaces, adding a punk edge to the looks.

The colour palette for the collection was primarily black and white, with pops of metallic silver and bold red. The use of sheer fabrics, sequins, and embellishments added a touch of glamour to the overall rugged aesthetic of the collection.
