The focus in our final year of study was to investigate and explore the various precursors to our current predicament, to understand meta-narratives of waste and its connection to climate crisis tackling themes such as consumption and the internal logic of capitalism as an economic and political system. Complex relationship with buildings, objects and things, considering their meaning and Withpurpose.theworld going through the crisis and waste being an international problem, it is clear that we all must adapt new strategies of consumption, waste management and conscious design and Throughbuilding. my initial research into the problem, I chose human-centred direction to understand how are people looked at and treated as waste in certain communities and what are the spaces and needs of their inhabitation. This led me to write my writing portfolio about displacements and how do displaced people live and their lives affected by it. Through my further research into the site and our focus on Camden area this year - I recognised the need to celebrate the diversity of its residents and focus on strengthening community by designing a community centre that unites people and is a space of expression, collaboration and unity for its people, whatever their background.

AGENDA
The aim of my project is to create a community centre in Camden that can bring together different groups of residents in the area that somehow can feel disconnected and displaced. To give these people a platform where they can make connections, contribute back to their community and each other and most importantly, feel like they have a voice in their own community - to feel heard and tell their stories through the form of performance, collaboration and skills exchange.

THE SITE35 KENTISH TOWN ROAD NW1 CAMDEN8NL
TOWN Elephant house was a former bottle store, cooper’s building and associated boundary walls date back from 1900-1 by William Bradford for the Camden TheBrewery.list description found in heritage statement notes there have been ‘‘minor alterations’’ only. The building dates from the early 20th Century and is of limited archaeological interest due to its relatively recent age. Artistic interest is confined to the external ornament, principally the sandstone elephant head. Camden Highline is a stretch of disused railway arches that cut across the borough between Camden market and Kings Cross in North London.
The idea for the Highline comes from New York’s successful Highline project - an above street level parkland space utilising a disused railway through the centre of Manhattan. The intention is to replicate the benefits of this scheme in London, whilst also building upon London’s own parkland heritage. In keeping with the theme of this year’s brief, the site is itself waste space – leftover, abandoned pockets of interstitial space waiting to be recovered for use.

RELATIONSHIP TO THE HIGH LINE Camden high line is a stretch of disused railway arches and the site for my final major project is only a minute away - other side of the canal that separates Eastboth.side of the building, there is a bridge on the main road that leads straight through under the high-line.

ACCESS POINTS in these diagrams i have been exploring different possible points of access to the building, looking at all options, to understand what would be the best way for anyone to access the building and what options are there that exist or can be created. making building fully accessible and connecting it with the High Line and canal side too by building a bridge. Taking thesouth facade connecting wall outusing existing entrance points as it is only using the main entrance and closing the back one using existing entrance points and also taking the south facade connecting wall out, to make it fully accessible from all the street levels and connecting it with the main road closing the south facade wall totally to enclose the court yard and only have access through the canal side via a bridge while opening access from the High closing the south facade wall down to enclose the building but make a new entrance points so entrance can be through a few different points within south and east facade

NORTH LONDON CARES Camden Collective, 5-7 Buck Street, London, NW1 8NJ
For their older neighbours in particular, many of whom have spent a lifetime in their home neighbourhoods in Camden and Islington, the rush and pace of the city can often now feel too much. Getting around can be frightening, and trends including globalisation, gentrification, migration, digitisation and the housing bubble are transforming their communities faster than ever.
The multiplying effect of those pressures is that many older people have deep roots – from Kilburn to Kentish Town –but few connections. Meanwhile, young professionals – often graduates from across the country and around the world – can have hundreds of connections in the social media age, but no roots in their

PATRICIA AND JOHN (North London Cares volunteers) Both have been married for over 30 years, when that happened they bought their first home in Camden and been living here ever since. They are a happy couple, still try to be active as much as they can, even though John has some health problems. One of the reasons John really loves going to House of Soul, because he can tell his wonderful life stories and having meaningful conversations at Human Library project brings him happiness and meaning to life. He loves people and how story telling and sharing breaks barriers.

Keneth usually participates in community kitchen, where he runs a program and brings some people who ware taken of the streets , to help them build confidence and reintegrate through cooking. They host dinners for those in the council that are in need, few nights a week.
People who pass by, either using certain facilities within House of Soul, such as having a coffee and meeting people, participating in a Human Library project, coming to watch film screenings or even cooking at community kitchen. Short distance from the High-line an Camden market, this is a popular place to go as you can do so much. if removing first floor floor and making the basement space double height ceiling - this can create a really monumental and grand space where people could go on the platforms to speak, debate, collaborate with discussions and meetings.

in these models I have explored my ideas through model making and atmosphere creation. The journey through the building could lead through different experiences of people expressing themselves through theatre, speakers corners and platforms and leading to the top of the building which could be half open air structure with viewing platform or another performance and debate space like amphitheatre.

CAFE/ BAR - public can come to use it, members of Routes of the Street can work there - giving them a chance to have a job and to re-integrate.
HOUSE - members of Routes of The Street can learn some making skills, that helps their confidence and re-integration to society. Members of North London Cares can actively participate in spending their time making something, while tackling loneliness at the same time. Other Camden residents can also come and learn new things, collaborate or use facilities to use tools or make. They can sign up online through the House Of Soul website. Things that can be made there - crafts for selling at community markets (maybe a regular stall in Camden market), fix clothes for homeless, make toys for kids, etc.
TINY ACTING SPACES - used by The Etcetera theatre actors or its members. Small performance or rehearsal spaces for one that are scattered around the building, fully accessed and open for anyone to just come up and build their confidence or just have a place to act. These spaces should be where public paths are, so that becomes places for unexpected ‘‘performance on the spot’’ for anyone to experience.
- skills exchange through making food, members of Routes of the Street and North London Cares, making and learning togetheronce again tackling loneliness and helping to reintegrate within society. Public can contribute and organise special supper evenings, where people get together to cook and eat.
HIERARCHY OF SPACES this diagram further explores the importance of spaces and what activities each space should be

SCREENING ROOM - The Etcetera Theatre are main users, together with creative public members who want to screen their art/ films and work. They can collaborate together to put up films at day or night screenings. People from North London Cares can also participate or simply have a place to come and watch free films. This space should also have a little writing studio facilities, for those who want to brainstorm or write something for a new project MAKINGtogether.
HUMAN LIBRARY - a place with a program of a type of library where people learn new stories, from real people, not books. This can be confidential, with people reading other people’s stories, or stories told through curtains or translucent materials, so they are left anonymous. Routes of The Street , The Ecetera theatre and North London Cares, are all open to participate - as story tellers, or those who listen. Public is invited to do the same - this connecting people, provoking conversations and helping them to change their mind of their set believe systems. This space becoming non-judgemental exchange of knowledge and experiences and also therapeutic. Helping people within the community to share and accept each COMMUNITYother.KITCHEN
the most important place in the building, where real change and action can take place. The space can house theatre performances that are made through Etcetera theatre company, that public can come and see. Same space/structure can also be a platform for Camden’s residents to have meetings and debates of current issues in the area - this giving a voice for all equally and their opinions and democratic values within the council.

49 CREATING ATMOSPHERIC CONNECTIONS BETWEEN SPACES CREATING DIMENSIONAL QUALITIES THROUGH RAISED SURFACES AND PLATFORMS CREATION OF AMPHITHEATRE THAT DRAWS FURTHER PUBLIC TO THE BUILDING CREATING SAFE PLATFORMS TO GIVE PEOPLE A VOICE AND EXPRESS THEMSELVES
One of my adaptive reuse proposals was breaking the barrier between public and private and making building fully public, one of the possible strategies was thinking of an ‘inside’ of the building as a separate inserted volume, that can be carved and cut through, including its façades becoming porous and accessible from many different points. other option I considered was building new façades around the building that leads to a specific journey through that is exciting and Theinnovating.seperated facades could be concidered as screens and curtains. In these models I have explored this idea of how to make a building more public, per-formative and Iporous.thenlooked at collage technique to see what could work in terms of giving people a ‘voice’ that my agenda is.

51HOUSEOFSOULSTORYTELLING IS ABOUT CONNECTION AND COMMUNICATION. EACH OF US HAS A STORY TO TELL, AND WHEN WE HEAR OTHERS’ STORIES, WE TEND TO UNDERSTAND AND EMPATHISE WITH THEM. ITS AN ANCIENT CRAFT THAT NOURISHES THE SOULS.
All amusing, still warm smells of freshly baked bread, travels through copper pipes like magic. Baked with all seeing hands, they tell story, not one, maybe hundreds, for open minds and hearts - everyone waits for their chance to have a bite. To try and taste all the incredible dishes and smell their aroma, it is like a blessing when one soul feeds another. These people rarely eat with spoons from other houses, but this is different, this feels like home. A labyrinth of stairs and platforms at Sensory Bakehouse are recipes for good conversations and unexpected glimpse of others. The tables that fill hungry with kindness and community spirit, proudly standing and waiting to secretly hear more extraordinary stories of others.

HUMAN LIBRARY
A stream of tears flows down the crystal valley, all tears chimney it sparkles when met with the tiny kisses of sunlight. The story echoes like it’s never going to echo again and then surrender if it was falling and catching on safety nets. So sensitive and fragile, people tell their stories with open hearts, to be understood , to be challenged and to be felt like their accepted. The wondering sounds of echoing voices keep bouncing on brass staircases, keep meting in peachy pallets and barely visible worries. Then people surrender and weep of the beauty of storytelling and beauty of shimmering chimney.

63HOUSEOFSOUL-POETRY&SPOKENWORD DIGITAL MODEL MAKING Views around my digital model in House Of Soul - a clear direction from concept model making all th e way to the finish. The materiality is not clearly represented - bright colours are mainly for myslef to identify the spaces and qualities when I work with Cinema 4d.

By taking my design proposal concept further, I laser cut 3 of the main spaces within my building, to explore how these can be built and put together and how do they look in unity from each other. After assembling each peace, it was clear that for my final major model, these mini spaces wouldn’t work. The problem I found, was that as each individual space, they are exciting, but as unified, they seem too separate and don’t represent my project idea well. However, through spending time planing my file and assembling each, I have learned some crucial lessons and only through testing, this made my understanding of design and built approach even clearer.

HUMANexposed. LIBRARY - a place with a program of a type of library where people learn new stories, from real people, not books. Helping people within the community to share and accept each other.
