ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN VI - Spring Final Project

Water serves to many scales, both especically to human or urban context so naturally, builds itself up from a total web of physical, chemical, biological even intangible connections. Re-Hydro, aims to sustain this case of permeability of scales, on physical space and series of analysis. It projects to revive the ravaged water and ecology to Istanbul, which a is a city growing rapidly, pulling away from its nature and cannot connect itself with its own natural resources. It transforms this permeability of scales into an urban space, with a conscious manner of future scenarios and environmental issues. Away from the urban sprawl’s rush; it suggests a system that the natural combination of green and blue can deal with all the problems and dangers. It is not just a transformation project but an ecological pioneer for Istanbul, by bringing back the drought river, Ayamama, to the city. 5

Transforming the Old Terminal Building the Botanical Institute +0.50

Another aspect of the project was to transform the the actual airport building and proceed itself with different function. The building itself is an icon, since it has the last round-shaped airport plan in Europe. So preserving it would be inevitable. Holding its outer shell and bearing system, it is transformed in to a ‘Botanical Institute’ where ecological flora is exhibited. The storeys are teared in some places to diffuse the sunlight for trees and exhibition spaces. +0.50

PHOTOGRAPHY MUSEUM VEZNECILER

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN V - Fall Final Project

Istanbul Bilgi University Architecture Fourth Year Coordinators: Bora Mutlu - Eren Çıracı

A photography museum designed in Vezneciler which is located on the Historical Peninsula where the historical texture of İstanbul is very intense. The aim of the design is to incorporate Vezneciler to İstanbul’s daily life and an urban space for the existing population apart from the museum. A courtyard designed using the level difference existing and supported with commercial spaces. Proposed eave has an ‘elevated pedestrian road’ function to compound the fragmented exhibition units which located on the upper level of the design. The courtyard located on the lower level supported by commercial units with completely transparent facades. The transparent facades of the exhibition units pulled back to create its own eaves and to emphasize the entrance of the units.

Each individual should create the space they habit, with their own taste, comfort and culture; at least they should have the freedom to do so. So; the furnitures that establish the unique spirit of the space, should be diversified with the taste of the individual. Furnitures are designed modularly with the concept of “the change”. The furnitures, that create the living space, are designed to support the main functions of living areas. For relaxation item; the sitting and leaning parts can be joined if needed, allow them to create different types of living spaces. The lighting unit is not only attached to wall, but also has mobile joint elements. For that, it allows with on demand lighting preferences as it can illuminate various surfaces. Finally; the surface element is designed with flexible sizes, providing each person to place their personal goods. Modularity in all three furniture creates different characteristics for living area.

REGENERATING ETİLER VOCATIONAL SCHOOL ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IV - Spring Final Project Istanbul Bilgi University Architecture Third Year

The aim of the project is to regenerate Etiler Vocational School by supporting area with public and commercial spaces. There were different urban fabrics on the three sides of the project area. Since the school and the hotel functions are more private than commercial areas, the design suggests to separate these two functions by creating elevation difference. The school and hotel buildings are located at the existing road level while the commercial buildings are located at lower level. A commercial pedestrian axis proposed on the one side of the area and supported by stores starting from the ground floor of the hotel. The public courtyard on the lower elevation supported by restaurants and cafes on one side and with workshop and exhibition spaces on the side to build up the school. The buildings designed fragmental to promote the pedestrian circulation in the project area. Workshops such as housekeeping services, which supports the school’s education, are also separated from the educational building of the school to support the fragmental structure of the design.

PUBLIC POOL in MODA

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN III - Fall Final Project

Istanbul Bilgi University Architecture Third Year

The aim of the project is to design an additional function that supports the semi-olympic swimming pool and a gym at Kadıköy Moda. The courtyard, supported by dance and theater workshops, designed to be 5 m below the Moda Street to use the natural slope of the project land. An amphitheater that supports this courtyard and a mobile stage is added to the project. While the entrance of the gym and the pool entrance located through the Moda Street, a public space supported by store and cafe was created below the Moda Street.

COLLATERAL ADATEPE

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN II - Spring Final Project

Istanbul Bilgi University Architecture Second Year

The aim of the project is to design a production area to unite the villagers from Adatepe and the people who owns summer houses at Adatepe from the city. A theater area was designed since there are natural slope, green texture and natural scenery. In addition to the areas designed for theater festivals and camps, the proposal has extra structures as decor and costume workshops. The open gathering areas and the stages that are located in different altitudes can be use for theater and different collective events. In order to emphasize the view, the facades of the structures, which only look at the scenery, are completely transparent and the other facades are completely opaque. The load-bearing systems of the structures can be seen from the outside to highlight the linearity of the site plan.

URBAN FURNITURE

BASIC DESIGN II - Spring Final Project Istanbul Bilgi University Architecture First Year

The actual aim of the project is to made an original and unusual design besides the required function. That is why we created an urban furniture that takes its form based on the users body and seating location, and allows users to communicate each other while seating. The whole project is formed by contours that is connected to each other with a single metal rod from the bottom, while the upper parts connected with rubber band and provides the motion of the contours to take the shape of users body. Thus, when we have multiple users, the urban furniture that we have designed takes different forms of the users and it becomes a design that allows more fun and communication rather than simply being used for sitting.

BUILDING MATERIALS AND TECHNOLOGIES II - Spring Final Project

Istanbul Bilgi University Architecture Second Year Coordinators: Cem Altun - Özen Aksu

For the building materials and technologies course, we were asked to design a 150 m2 house with an additional function in a tropical climate and a plane area. The building is designed on the sea due to the location of the land. In addition to the residential function, a classroom for diving education and a courtyard accessible from the sea is added to the project. There are semi-open spaces due of the tropical climate and the construction materials are also selected according to the location. The main purpose of the design is to solve the system detail of the building according to the given climate.
