Who would have known by then, just how successful he would become in over 75 countries worldwide. Meet the man behind Silk-ka and his collections.

“The love for flowers and arrangements has been raised with me thanks to my father’s flower shop. It was there were I first got inspired to further develop my skills in flower arrangements. Once on track it even brought me international recognition.

Always looking for new creations and innovations made me discover the endless opportunities of silk. Creating and designing originally Dutch collections. Handmade and high quality. Against all odds I’d decided to go for it!

A new concept was born... a new company was founded: Silk-ka.

Nowadays we are one of the most renowned designers and exporters of silk flower collections worldwide. An achievement that was made possible in part by our many loyal and much appreciated customers. We couldn’t have done it without you.

And to everyone for whom this is a first introduction to us... we can’t wait to tell and show you more.

INSPIRATION ANYONE?

It all starts with inspiration. For creatives like us a bare necessity. With our eyes wide open we can spot trends and beauty in everything, everybody and everywhere. From travelling the world, meeting people, watching nature, till glossy magazines and the newest and hottest tv series. What’s hot and what’s not?

What makes people’s heart beat?

In fact, it’s one big life story in which we all participate... from decorating our homes, our shops, to what fashion we wear, to what music we listen to, in short: it is all about what makes people’s heart beat.

A great idea, what’s next?

Here’s where the designing starts. More specific images and storylines come to mind. Moodboards with colour schemes, fabrics, materials and pictures are created and that’s how a new collection comes to life physically.

Poinsettias

It’s absolutely time for some trivia facts about the poinsettia or Euphorbia pulcherrima. Did you know that December 12th is National Poinsettia Day? Or that Mexico is their home country? Well, now you do! Translation of the Latin name means ‘most beautiful’, and we agree it certainly is.

Loved by many and first in line were the Aztecs, who grew it as an ornamental shrub. X-mas wasn’t a big thing back then so don’t feel obliged to only use this handsome fellow in the traditional way. Stardom looks unapologetically smart in every season! TAKE A LOOK AT

It’s a family affair!

Making memories, sharing moments and longing for great adventures as a family is what the new Silk-ka AW 2023 collection is all about. An extraordinary collection of flowers set the mood for today, tomorrow and yesterday.

Handsome leaves & voluptuous blooms will accompany us at all those special occasions, however big or small and give a personal voice and expression to any festive event. Whatever the reason… but do we really need one?

Remember, families come in all shapes & sizes, some are nature given, others are chosen. They can be friends, colleagues, neighbours or somebody you met by coincidence. Just like our flowers they bring an unexpected sparkle of joy, a sense of belonging and an abundance of colour into your life!

COLLECTION PART ONE

Home is like a dear old friend, a warm welcome, a special place for memories. To recall the ones from days gone by and to make new ones in the future ahead.

Time to relax, fall is almost here, a glowing season, a new beginning. Big blowsy Dahlia’s are having a summer goodbye party, dressed to the nines in their vibrantly coloured flower petals. High above them, tree canopies are also changing into an autumnal costume. Deeply burned oranges, zesty yellows and sumptuous burgundy shades are on top of the list.

Pull up a comfy chair, grab your favourite cup filled with coco and enjoy the view as a sudden whirl of dwindling wind makes a dazzling show of natural confetti. Leaf, after leaf, after leaf floats slowly down. Creating an intricate pattern. Turning the lawn into an Oriental carpet…

That book will have to wait!

Grasses

Grasses have an intriguing elegance, with their delicate saturated colours they are a breath of delightful air. The season begins here. A wealth of interest and variety that stretches beyond the colour palette is just one of their many qualities.

We could go on and on about these autumnal gems, so if you’re looking for exquisite translucency, clear lines and a lot of texture, grasses are the way to go! And best of all, no worries or allergies, keep your handkerchief in your pocket, sneezing will not occur when it comes to our grasses, we promise!

Tales of the unexpected

Rise and shine! We know it is still early in the morning as the curtains are drawn. One glance through the windows says it all. The seasons are shifting. Our lovely view is still there as it always was. Only one thing has been altered, like icing on a birthday cake, the entire garden is decorated with a fairytale frosting.

Happiness awaits! Do we have all the warm supplies we need, to go out and explore? Jackets, hats and gloves, check! Like a mythical tale in search for the crystal flower well-hidden between the frozen branches and icy leaves. Watch out, what’s that rustling sound in the grass? A hungry

snow tiger? Let’s hide inside dad’s coat just to be sure! A sigh of relief followed by happy laughter, as we chase our beloved cat Gizmo with both hands full of colourful leaves…

The weather turns, time to go back inside. We fantasize about playing hide and seek as we leave our wet wellies by the backdoor. A vase is filled with delicate porcelain-like flowers to adorn the table. Small gestures of unexpected beauty. Lunch is ready! Nothing better than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to prepare you for a new adventure…

Frosted flowers & leaves

A fairy tale of icy snowflakes. All flowers in the winter garden have been kissed by a frosty breeze, edges of flower petals and leaves are delicately dipped in Mother Nature’s icing sugar. And as the awakening sun slowly rises in a pale blue sky all the flowers covered with icy crystals gently light up the garden. A peaceful stillness. Beauty everlasting. Perfectly formed in every way. Let this wintery tale of the unexpected sweep you off your feet into a blizzard of endless possibilities. Go on, give our chilling adventure a creative contemporary twist or a classic storybook ending. Surprise us!

Making wondrous moments

So many things can evoke wonderful memories… Grandmother’s old boardgame, the smell of freshly baked cookies, her favorite perfume from France. It’s those little things that really matter.

Setting the mood for a romantic encounter in the hallway. Candles are lit in the crystal chandeliers, a bouquet filled with the last floral guests of the season like Thistles, Hydrangeas, Lupines and Poppies all sit stately in a vase. Scenic dark shades, elegantly gloomy, ever so charming.

We’re dressed up in our finest attire. Look at that delightful finishing touch, just one bloom to hold her hair back, such a beautiful smile…

They love to dance. Maestro, music please! The Waltz of the Flowers seems to be the perfect choice, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers have nothing on us. We gracefully glide along the ceramic tiles of the hallway floor. A dazzling performance, time to take a bow, this is the making of a moment, and not just any moment. A wondrous one…

Sea holly thistles

A humble ode to the Sea holly, the enchanting blue flower that is admired by many, and rightfully so. Striking tall majestic stems make playful moody silhouettes against the dark grey skies. Captivating a fleeting wondrous moment while it lasts.

Any vase filled with these Scottish queens will be a statement piece on its own but on the other hand they are also really good colour companions for mixed bouquets. Whatever the preference the final floral result will be absolutely regal!

Longing for the holidays

COLLECTION PART FOUR

There’s an exuberant feeling lingering in the air, unexplainably alluring and extravagant. Without peeking on the calendar you know it has arrived, the twelfth month of the year! The search for the perfect tree is on as we unwillingly remind ourselves that there is also the small matter of untangling the Christmas lights from last year!

Decorating the house and Christmas tree is definitely a family affair, everything receives a luxurious make over! Brightly coloured presents finished with festive ribbons and bows. Bold leaves covered in glistening sequins shine like stars between the branches of the tree. Unique velvet flowers transform in appearance when you look at them. Luscious deep tones on one side, a pure gold finish on the other…

The warm glow of the fireplace casts magical shadows on the living room wall as we gather by the grand piano for some traditional carolling. Time to unwrap the presents. Big joyful smiles all around! A champagne bottle pops, hot chocolate is made and sparklers are lit. Cheers! What a wonderful way to end the holiday season…

Are you always in two minds when it comes to picking a colour for your festive December decorations? You don’t have to be with our gorgeous bi-coloured flowers. Traditional red, candy cane pink, plum purple or even glittering gold? Enjoy all the deep rich velvety colours when these luxurious blooms are facing you, immediately followed by the glowing golden twist on their reverse side.

Just add a little bit of warm flickering candlelight, some magical piano tunes, and success is guaranteed. Longing for the holidays has never felt so good!

Every excellent story has a fitting ending and so does ours. Time for a kiss goodnight and be on our way again. A glimpse of warm candlelight flickers through the windows, as the last magical tunes of the grand piano fade away into a longing whisper.

Remembering family times whilst sitting by the fire surrounded by an abundance of beautiful floral silhouettes, practically perfect in every way. Exceptionally festive. Truly a feast for the eyes, as beauty will always be there. With the beholder, in every bloom, in every petal.

Make time, save time, while the time of this joyful season will last. Just like an unexpected holiday tale, all time will be no time, when time has passed.

And a wondrous new chapter begins... That’s how happy memories are made!
