Dear friends,
I started to conceive this portfolio from a series of my favourite albums about seasons. They helped me find some key words for my projects but the process of building the whole story was still not easy. During this long journey of completing the story, I learned not only architectural design, but also history, culture, environment and other things. I am grateful for all the people and things I met in this process.
I am going to share the story I wrote myself and I hope you will enjoy it.
Sincerely, Zhu.

Urban design in extreme climate
In historical legends, Loulan is a beautiful city on the silk road. However, due to the diversion of the river, water resources decreased sharply. Ancient countries launched wars one after another to compete for resources, and it finally disappeared in the desert.
Is it possible that in the future, in the desert with bad climate, people can build appropriate canals, open up the context of the desert and let the city grow again.

The water, the desert and the legend
How the oasis comes
Loulan, once an important node of the ancient Silk Road, has disappeared, and the depletion of water resources is one of the important reasons. Although the forms are different, famous cities are always surrounded by famous rivers. Therefore, if anyone wants to build an oasis in the desert, it is very important to solve the problem of water.

Vertial ecology of Tianshan Mountains
The water source of Lop Nur area mainly comes from the Tianshan Mountains with rich vertical ecology
The glacier of Tianshan Mountain is covered with snow all the year round and stores a lot of water.
The temperature rises in spring, and the ice and snow melt to form rivers.
The main source of Tarim River is the glacier melt water of Tianshan Mountain.
It is the concentration of these currents that forms an oasis in the desert.

River path finding - Experiment
Scientists have discovered a slime mold that can continuously expand outwards and leave the shortest path to find food. They also made a experience. They used this slime mold to simulate Tokyo's railway construction, and the results were surprisingly similar.
I have cultivated this slime mold for several weeks and tried to summarize the law of its growth.

River path finding - Simulation
After learning the shortest path, I try to use wool algorithm to simulate the growth path of this slime mold. Zaha office also adopted this algorithm in the road design of Kartal-Pendik planning. Here are some of my simulation results and I choose one of them to apply to my urban design.
In the case of multiple points, the straight line is not the optimal solution of the route. The principle of wool algorithm is to make the straight lines attract each other to get the appropriate curve.
After the simulation results are obtained, the path needs to be simplified, and the wool algorithm needs to be simulated again to get the appropriate path in the city. The canal and train tracks can then be planned according to the path.

Water conveyance & transport system
The water network inside the urban complex is also important. The water conveyance system is divided into two parts, the upper part is mainly responsible for the business area, and the lower part is mainly responsible for the office area. The upper part of the internal traffic is connected with business and living area, and the lower part is connected with office and living area.

Youth practical education base
Under the influence of the double reduction policy, Chinese children have more time of their own, but various problems in reality make children not really have high-quality development.
In combination with China's current rural development plan, this youth practice education base is designed to give teenagers more social opportunities, more social experience, and help the countryside become better and better.

Gouxi, Quzhou, Zhejiang
Gouxi is an ordinary village in the western part of China's Zhejiang province and is undergoing some renewal. My grandfather lives here and was a carpenter in his youth; now he manages his orange orchard and vegetable plot like the other villagers. The village is about a 20 minute drive from the town, so it is easy to get to and from.

Qiantang River Tourism and Culture Museum
Qiantang river is one of the greatest river in China and its changes have directly affected the development of Hangzhou, a famous historical city in southern China. It is famous in China for its tide watching during the Mid Autumn Festival. The museum is designed to provide citizens with a great tidal viewing place and make it easier for visitors to understand the history of the Qiantang River.Especially create a mood of waiting for the tide.

History and culture of Qiantang Basin and Qiantang tide
6000 years ago
It was a vast of ocean.
An important Liangzhu civilization appeared in the Qiantang River Basin.
1500 years ago 10 years ago
Qiantang County moved the boundary to the foot of Fenghuang Mountain and determined the seawall boundary. With the excavation of the canal, Hangzhou has rapidly developed into a commercial city
Qian Liu, king of Wuyue, used bamboo cages filled with giant stones to build dams to control water and solve the flood at that time.

The site is located in Jiuxi, where the last skyward tide of Qiantang River appears and it is also the continuation of the Xihu (West Lake) scenic interest area. Besides, it is an important part of the future planning of Hangzhou city. In addition to most high-end residential areas, there are many open spaces where high-tech industries are being built, and ant Jinfu on the west side of the site is one of them.

Vertical cemetery
Death is a festival that will come to everyone. Over time, life and death encroach on each other's space, and to solve this main problem, the idea of a vertical cemetery was proposed. According to relevant papers and materials, I abstracted the space of birth and death, arranged the functions of rituals, and used an algorithm to generate buildings to create the effect of growth and dissipation. Finally, I built a building that adapts to different terrains and is convenient for people to visit. A vertical cemetery with strong emotional connections.

Lower part: ashes storage space
There is less requiment of daily use of guests, horizontal traffic takes up more space. So the units in lower part are smaller and closer between themselves. And the rules of construction of lower part is similar with the upper part.
