10 connecting SILVER CREEK REAL ESTATE GROUPflight words by stephanie chung

Time is, by far, the most precious commodity. Money and high-end goods are not what will be seen as our most treasured items. Rather, it is the experiences that time creates.

Travel opens a whole world and deeply changes one’s perspective. As a military brat, I grew up moving every two years and am extremely grateful for it.

Traveling helps you see beyond your daily life and will expand your mind, create empathy and make unforgettable memories.

FLYING PRIVATE IS AN EXPERIENCE

Stephanie Chung, Chief Growth Officer of Wheels Up

EXPERIENCE HIGHS The luxury industry is shifting and becoming less about material products, focusing more on meaningful experiences, especially within travel and creating these experiences with the ones we love.

The affluent will expect more of these meaningful experiences to spend time with friends and loved ones in ways that are not available elsewhere.

Creating human connection is key. Wheels Up helps its members spend time with their loved ones by getting them to and from their destination safely and efficiently, offering a plethora of member benefits through partnerships with brands such as Abercrombie & Kent, Porsche, Wine Access and more. In addition, we provide members with exclusive access to the Super Bowl, Art Basel, the Masters and other popular moments throughout the year.

Time is the ultimate luxury, really, because the one thing we cannot get back are the hours, minutes and seconds.

We provide the total package, from transportation to the tarmac to a quick departure. Private aviation allows customers to be fully in control of their time. When one flies private it allows that experience to become a part of the story. There are so many reasons to fly private. It is a big responsibility on our shoulders to help shape that experience into a positive and seamless one, even if it is just about getting you from point A to point B.

BEING PREPARED is time well spent in my book. My suitcase is always packed. I travel a lot for business and leisure, and I want to focus on where I am going, whether it is a new restaurant I am trying or how I am going to land the next big deal, rather than wondering where my toiletries are.

Always anticipating that next adventure — and being ready when it comes — will create the peace of mind necessary to be present and enjoy all that the world has to offer.

REACHES THE HIGHLANDS-CASHIERS PLATEAU

Since childhood, Interior Designer Carolyn Kendall has been honing her artistic skills by drawing, designing, and rearranging the homes of her friends and family. Fast forward twenty-six years and Kendall serves as the creative force behind the renowned residential design firm, Alcott Interiors. As a boutique operation, Kendall and her team of experts have been offering specialized high-end residential design services individually tailored to reflect each client’s space and taste. Originally from Los Angeles, Kendall subsequently pursued her passion for design in Nashville where she completed her formal education and then worked for an architectural firm where she was exposed to the vast world of commercial design. That opportunity led to challenging projects at golf resorts, restaurants, and hotels across the United States — including the historic Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado. “Working on largescale projects helped me look at design without limitations,” Kendall recalled of her early days in the business.

Finding the root of her passion through the creation of intimate and artful spaces for her clients to enjoy subsequently marked the birth of Alcott Interiors in 1996. Since then, she has left her mark on the residential interior design world by bringing light and happiness into the homes of her clients through her skillfully refined design process.

Central to her success, is the personal connection she makes with every client; to earn their trust, to understand their lifestyle, their wants, needs, and dreams for the ultimate home. Whether it is a challenging renovation project or a brand new build, Kendall and her team work closely with their clients to address every aspect of the design process and then render spaces that are functional, yet unique. “I can’t emphasize enough, the importance of reflecting, and enhancing my clients’ style,” Kendall said. From architecture to custom details, home furnishings, fabrics, textures, and finishes — each is carefully selected to achieve a result worthy of pride.

Every Alcott Interiors project benefits from Kendall’s extraordinary level of attention to detail and her educated eye for the finishing touches that bring everything together. The spaces she creates highlight her mastery of striking the perfect balance between pattern, color, and texture to create a dynamic final result. “The composition of the space is equally important, as is the variety of scale, materials, and textures used. Whether it’s a mountain home, coastal plantation, or city penthouse — all pertinent factors are taken into consideration.”

KENDALL IS ENTHUSIASTICALLY EXPLORING A NEW VISION BEHIND THE EXPRESSION, “MOUNTAIN HOME.”

In terms of a particular style, Alcott Interiors always welcomes a challenge. “From traditional to transitional, to rustic… I do a little bit of everything, and I really enjoy that aspect of design,” Kendall says, “working in numerous locations, and for people from all cultures allows me to think outside of the box as I bring the elements of what people love to the heart of their homes and businesses.”

Alcott Interior’s thoughtful incorporation of historical and cultural styles and colors, rich fabrics, and custom accouterments creates opulent, yet inviting spaces that welcome friends and family to sit back and relax. “I love creating spaces where my clients can gather with the people they love. It’s rewarding to see them enjoying customized spaces where they can go to rest and recharge.”

Much of the inspiration K e n d a l l channels into her projects stems from her extensive travels around the globe, including frequent trips to Paris. “Years of traveling abroad have provided me the opportunity to reflect upon the storied architecture where I can connect with other designers and explore local markets for one-of-a-kind pieces that ultimately might just find their way into the homes of our clients. Professionally and personally, I have grown a lot through my travels,” shares Kendall, who went on to say, “Connecting with other design professionals and educating myself about different cultures is a big part of what we do.”

While the Alcott Interiors design shoppe is located in Nashville, Kendall and her team have since expanded to the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau, and have several notable projects currently underway. Artfully incorporating the distinct mountain aesthetic of Western North Carolina with the rich and detailed design concepts that their clients have come to love, Kendall is enthusiastically exploring a new vision behind the expression, “mountain home.”

“Living close to nature is important here, and I want to maintain that at the forefront,” Kendall says. “When visualizing a mountain house, people typically envision something rustic. I want my designs to be an expanded interpretation of that. Without being too literal — it’s not just a cabin in the woods, but something more distinctive, so it looks, feels, and operates as a full-time home.”

From coastal residences in Florida to mountain sanctuaries in Western North Carolina, Alcott Interiors strives to create remarkable spaces where you step out of your car, and into your home away from home. “What drives the Alcott team is our passion for the creative and the beautiful coupled with striking a balance between beauty and functionality.”

“Ultimately, the goal for each home I design is to reflect the owner’s individuality.” Kendall remarks, “In a sense, a person’s home is the trademark of who they are, and I strive to have my clients feel an authentic and very personal pride of place.”

In a world full of houses, Alcott Interiors crafts homes.

Whether you have a design idea you want to bring to life, or if you desire a more turn-key experience, Kendall and her design team stand ready to bridge your dreams into reality.

“In the end, everything we create is anchored in the grand traditions of interior design and elevated by an educated and exacting eye for details.” C.K.

hop in the bentley and explore an american icon: the pacific coast highway

No vacation itinerary is quite as all-American as the road trip. Authors such as Jack Kerouac have waxed poetic about their memorable driving adventures and countless comedy films poke fun at chaotic families squeezed into vans, always running into trouble. While luxury travel is not one of the images that a road trip generally conjures up, meandering through a star-studded West Coast route in a fabulous ride is just that.

A true road-tripping classic, California’s stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway — also known as California State Route 1, Highway 1 and the PCH — hugs the ocean for nearly the entire length of the state’s famed coastline. Running just over 656 miles, it is the longest state route in California and the second longest in the United States after Montana Highway 200.

Weaving from Dana Point in the south to the tiny inland town of Leggett in the north, the PCH passes from the sunny beaches of Orange County through the glittering lights of Los Angeles, to the upscale cliffs of Malibu and Santa Barbara, charming Danish architecture in Solvang and Spanish-style adobe in San Luis Obispo, crashing waves of Big Sur, foggy hills of San Francisco, and finally onto the towering redwoods of Northern California.

To maximize the PCH experience, the right car is a must, and nothing says California coast more than a convertible. The Continental GT line from British automaker Bentley Motors was specifically designed with road trips in mind — GT even stands for “grand tourer” — and is available in both hard top and convertible models. For long bouts of driving, the Nappa leather seats can be cooled, heated or turned into massage chairs, while tech such as active lane assistance, blind spot warning, infrared night vision and GPS keeps drivers safe through all of the twists and turns of the PCH. And, of course, built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and an optional Naim Audio system— the most powerful speaker system available in a production car — ensure that curated PCH playlist will be put to good use.

For fueling up in between the sights, the perfect pit stop is in Los Angeles for some quintessential Southern California snacks: gourmet donuts from cult favorites such as Moon Donuts, Primo’s Donuts or Birdies, filet mignon beef jerky from Three Jerks Jerky, and locally grown almonds, figs and strawberries. And not to be forgotten, a necessary detour on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills to pick up some chic sunglasses and a Hermès scarf for flawless convertible hair — road trip or not, this is still California.

MUIR WOODS NATIONAL MONUMENT Stroll among the giants in this old-growth forest of coastal redwoods, some of which are 800 years old and 250 feet tall.

PEBBLE BEACH GOLF LINKS Tee up at the #1 rated public golf course in the country, host to six U.S. Opens, on the shore of the Monterey Peninsula.

SAN SIMEON Watch up to 17,000 elephant seals lounge at their beach rookery. The adjacent town is also home to the stately Hearst Castle.

HOT SPRINGS CANYON Hike to multiple pools of warm mineral water just outside of Santa Barbara, with plenty to sip afterwards at the surrounding wineries.

EL MATADOR BEACH Catch some rays on one of Malibu’s legendary strips of sand beneath its soaring cliffs, along with sushi from Nobu, of course
