I
t’s now just over a year since taking over the ceramic factory in Newcastle Under Lyme, Staffordshire from Jacuzzi UK, effectively creating Silverdale Bathrooms. It has been a busy year and we’d like to thank all customers that have supported us during our first year of trading. Thankfully we have seen sales growth from both our UK and international markets and have ended the year with over £1m incremental sales on the prior year, which we are delighted about in the current climate. Within this our UK, premium branded sales are up by over 20% and continuing to grow thanks to many many new displays and our raft of new product introductions. We have also had international sales success, attracting new customers from Australasia, the Middle East, India, Western and Central Europe. We started the year with a smooth transition from Jacuzzi UK, becoming a distinct new business Silverdale Bathrooms and immediately switching to a 5 day lead time on our core branded items., We discovered early in January that Jacuzzi UK were no longer to market and sell the Jacuzzi range of ceramics themselves, so we immediately switched the supply of this range to, via our new
team of nationwide sales agents. Those customers requiring Jacuzzi branded ceramic to complement their hydrotherapy products continue to have access to the Jacuzzi Ceramic range and we will continue to support it with dedicated literature and our quick and direct delivery service.
Overall, it’s been a great start. We have surrounded ourselves with a great team at Silverdale and it’s a team that is growing in numbers with five new additions to our production team this year, including a new apprenticeship scheme to ensure the continuing pottery skill set for future generations.
In March we struck up a partnership arrangement with Perrin & Rowe, distributing their bathroom brassware range to retailers throughout the UK. We felt that this UK Manufacturer of quality brassware aligned perfectly with our products and our stance to promote British made products.

In May we launched our Silverdale contemporary range of products for retailers who wanted a comprehensive UK manufactured ceramic product range not available on the internet. September saw us at 100% Design with some great new and long awaited product for our B C Sanitan brand. You told us we needed furniture and we launched it along with a collection of luxury bathroom ceramic tiles to complement the BC Sanitan collection. We also took the opportunity to add in some really unique additions across our sanitaryware range. We have summarised our key new product initiatives within this newsletter just in case you missed any.

These latest recruits join us with a real mix of experience from Ken Berrisford, with 33 years experience in ceramic production and Steve Cummings whose been in ceramics for eight years, to Kyle Timmis who has joined the company after six years in the army. We have started a new apprentice program to ensure this established and extremely skilful craft is continued, John Freitas being the first to join our scheme. It is a credit to all in the business that we have been successful enough, in our first year of trading, to start this long awaited apprentice scheme. These five new additions were on top of two very experienced new starters in July this year, Mark Dorricott and Gary Berrisford joined our blocking department with 61 years in mould making and prototyping between them.

Balterly Bathrooms Ltd acquired it and started production. The site subsequently became part of the Spring Ram Group in 1986 before being acquired by US Industries, owners of the Jacuzzi business, in 2000. In December 2011 it was sold privately to Mark Prince and David Tutton.

Earlier this year we joined a growing number of British manufacturers to participate in the Made in Britain campaign. Today it has over 600 members and it is developing plans, to become a real promotional force, to drive business to genuine British manufacturing companies. New criteria is to be set imminently that will ensure that only those businesses that truly manufacture in Britain (using the vast majority of British supplied raw materials) will be identified, ensuring customers and consumers can readily seek out those companies. Our British manufacturing heritage can be traced back to the mid-19th century when our site was a prominent business heavily involved in the local ceramics industry. In modern times our premium handmade ceramics have been manufactured at our Silverdale Road site since the early 1980’s when
NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER We are delighted to announce that Amanda Brazell is to join the company in a newly created role of Business Development Manager from January. Her role is to support UK customers and our team of national sales agents. Amanda joins us with a wealth of experience in both Bathroom retailing and manufacturing having started working in the industry in 1988. With such a broad product understanding, she will be a most valuable member of the management team. Amanda said of her appointment “I am very proud and excited to be joining a British manufacturing company. I have sold Silverdale products for many years in retailing and their quality is second to none.” Xmas C losing: Silverdale Bathrooms will be closed from the 21st December and re-open on the 2nd January 2013.
The production of ceramics from the site has remained largely unchanged during this 30+ years. We still use ‘Bench Casting’ so each item is made by hand because, in many cases, it simply couldn’t be made any other way. That’s our mantra, our USP and it gives us the ultimate flexibility to make what our customers agree is the very best quality bathroom ceramic made in the world today. Silverdale Bathrooms and our brands, will continue to manufacture and market 100% of our sanitaryware at our factory in the Staffordshire potteries. Now with our new UK manufactured additions of bathroom tiles, furniture, brassware, seats and accessories, together with the finest quality UK manufactured ceramics, we will strive to continue to provide you with the very best in customer service and support across all our ranges.
