How to Choose Your Cruise: The Galápagos

For many travellers, a Galápagos Islands cruise embodies the ultimate in expedition travel. Inspired by Charles Darwin’s legendary voyage aboard the HMS Beagle in 1835, iconic photographer Steve McCurry described his trip to the archipelago as “a childhood dream that came true.”

And when one steps ashore on these 13 prehistoric islands of volcanic origin—which offer a safe refuge to approximately 9,000 known species of flora and fauna, including species that boast vibrant blue feet, vivid red shells, golden scales, and balloon-like gular sacks—one immediately understands their uniqueness. The second largest island of Seychelles and arguably tops in attractions, Praslin features stunning beaches, azure seas, tangles of jungle and a trademark relaxed atmosphere. All shore experiences in the Galápagos Islands are complimentary with your expedition fare and include expert-led Zodiac, kayak, and hiking excursions. Depending on the island, exploration may include wet and/or dry landings; in locations where going ashore is not permitted, we will navigate by Zodiac for intimate perspectives. BUCCANEER COVE, SANTIAGO (WESTERN) – Zodiac Cruise

Appreciate the volcanic creations in the bay – once visited by privateers and buccaneers, but also where Darwin disembarked and camped, likely impressed by the giant tuff cone Cerro Conway.

DARWIN BAY, GENOVESA (NORTHERN) – Guided Hike

Enjoy a nature walk along a trail covered by coralline shells and a white sandy beach and be amazed at the sheer number of seabirds who make their home here, including Red-footed Boobies.

ISLA BARTOLOMÉ (WESTERN) – Guided Hike

Trek to Bartolomé’s summit for a breathtaking view of the surrounding islands; learn about the spatter cones, lava tubes, and tuff parasitic volcanoes akin to a moon landscape.

ISLA GUY FAWKES (WESTERN) – Deep-water Snorkelling

Explore the waters surrounding this cluster of four small islets, home to impressive walls covered by invertebrates such as corals and sponges, big schools of fish, and possibly manta rays.

NORTH SEYMOUR (NORTHERN) – Deep-water Snorkelling

Allow the current to gently guide you along the shore, passing areas covered with schools of King Angelfish and Razor Surgeonfish. Keep an eye out for resting stingrays and reef sharks.

PUNTA MANGLE, FERNANDINA (NORTHERN) – Zodiac Cruise

Discover the youngest of the islands – new lava fields sprout pioneer species of plants, and it’s a birdwatcher’s dream; look for the Galápagos Penguin, pelicans, cormorants, and more.

RODRIGUEZ BREEDING CENTRE, SAN CRISTÓBAL (NORTHERN) –Guided Excursion

Visit one of the most successful breeding programmes in the islands for up-close encounters with Giant Tortoises; watch them slowly chomp on food, and see babies thriving in special corals.

Silversea’s “Included Private Executive Transfers Service”: Silversea, in partnership with Blacklane will offer chauffeured transportation from the guests’ home to their departure airport and return service (home) at the end of their vacation. Blacklane brings its high-quality

airport transfer experience to hundreds of thousands of premium clients each year. Silversea is committed to extending its premium quality and high service to guests’ front doors as an essential part of the Silversea experience. Silversea’s exclusive Private Executive Transfers service is available for reservation as a component of Silversea’s Door-to-Door all-inclusive offer, on all cruises. Standard cruises as well as “Special Combos”, “Grand Voyages” and full World Cruises qualify for this inclusion, on Silversea’s “Privilege Fares” (reduced rates do not qualify). These transportation services are not operated by Silversea.
