The world’s biggest island has some of the smallest scattered off its west coast, as if crumbs of Australia have been blown across the Indian Ocean on a sea breeze. These are the spectacular specks that even Australians haven’t heard of – Abrolhos, Dirk Hartog, Montebello, Lacepedes, the Buccaneer Archipelago – and yet these fascinating bastions of wilderness and wildlife are all explored on a Silversea expedition cruise.

Indeed, one of the world’s last wilderness frontiers, Western Australia’s Kimberley is an explorer’s dream come true. In addition to its fascinating offshore islands, this primordial land remains pristine and relatively untouched. Rife with a complex network of dramatic gorges, majestic canyons, limestone cliffs, and intriguing horizontal falls, it’s also home to deep Aboriginal culture and rock art dating back at least 40,000 years.
