Items with a red lot number depict car and motorcycle lots, those in blue depict automobilia and lifestyle items.

Foreword We are delighted to welcome you to our first appearance of the year at Silverstone circuit for one of the highlights in the classic and race car auction calendar, the International Trophy Sale. As a curtain raiser to a spectacular motor racing festival, it is only fitting that some of the finest road and competition cars from a bygone era are being offered for sale today. However, this weekend is particularly exciting as it also sees a number of firsts for Silverstone Auctions including our lifestyle auction today, which embraces the finer things in life such as vintage wines, stylish leather goods, exquisite jewellery plus much more. There’s also our popular automobilia auction with a variety of highly collectable items and another ‘first’ in our specialist motorhome sale on Sunday. As always though, the cars are the stars and the sale boasts more than 60 vehicles for you to enjoy, going back some 9 decades and reflecting the diversity of not only Britain’s magnificent motoring past but also that from around the world. Meanwhile, as we look forward to summer, it’s also great news that our friend Chris Evans has asked us to once again play an integral part in the hugely successful CarFest weekends in August in aid of BBC Children in Need. Before that though we are also delighted to be back at Silverstone in July for The Silverstone Classic Sale. As part of the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival you can be certain that no stone will be left unturned to secure another selection of fantastic classic and race cars. We hope you’ll be able to join us again at our events later in the year, but in the meantime, I would like to take thank you for attending today’s sale. Our expert team is on hand to provide you with the very best service and advice, so please let us know if we can be of any assistance. All-in-all, it promises to be a fantastic event and a great way to celebrate the beginning of the summer motoring season.

Happy bidding! International Trophy Sale

Lot 301>> 1994 Bentley Turbo R

Sales were high enough for production of the Mulsanne to cease, despite the initial intention being for both cars to be produced in alongside each other. Indeed, the Turbo R went on to be one of the best-ever selling cars that either Rolls-Royce or Bentley had built. A slight face-lift of the Turbo went ahead in 1989, with the most noticeable changes being the replacement of the two large square front head-lamps with quad round head-lamps giving the car a more sporty and individual look. It was eventually replaced in 1997 by the Bentley Turbo RT, by then a total of 7,230 Turbo R’s had been sold.

1994 Bentley Turbo R Registration: ONZ3990 Chassis Number: SCBZR03C9RCH54633 Engine Number: 8085L410M/TKR Estimate (£): No Reserve

The Bentley Turbo R was based on the Mulsanne chassis, however, the Turbo R was built to be a high performance car. Like its predecessor this Bentley had a turbo charged engine, however it was highly tuned in comparison to the Mulsanne. With Bosch fuel injection to increase torque levels, uprated suspension, anti-roll bars and superior dampers, the Bentley Turbo was surprisingly nimble in the bends for a car of its size. Using a 6750cc V8 capable of 135mph the Bentley Turbo R was a real performer in a straight line too. Although the addition of alloy wheels, a first for Bentley, had some enthusiasts and owners clubs thinking the car was slightly too flamboyant. However rave reviews in the press helped dealers move the Turbo R in relatively substantial numbers - one report by Motor Trend described it as “The first Bentley in decades deserving of the famous name”. Released in 1985 the Turbo R was a clear indication that the manufacturer intended to be at the leading edge of the fashionable sports car market. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

This Bentley Turbo R was first registered on 11th March 1994 and the registration document states it has had only 1 previous owner from new. The odometer reading is 96,685 miles at the time of cataloguing and no expense has been spared in the maintenance of this vehicle, as detailed with a factory service wallet. It has benefited from an all important suspension and brake rebuild and has been barely used since. The vendor has enjoyed ONZ3990 as a weekend vehicle and is only selling it due to health issues. Having always been dry stored from new, the bodywork is described as in very good condition and the metallic black paint retains an excellent shine. The cream leather interior has no rips or tears and is in good condition. Supplied with the original service books, previous MoT test certificates and current MoT until December 2013, this Turbo R is ready for use by its next owner and has been serviced recently. Offered without reserve, this is an opportunity for civilised motoring for a most reasonable outlay.

Lot 302>> 1961 Triumph TR4

This stunning early TR4 is finished in one of the best colour combinations of Tornado Red with black leather interior. The car is presented in fine condition and has benefited from recent expenditure from the current owner. Originally supplied new on 14th December 1961 to the Standard Triumph Motor Company, Los Angeles, the Heritage Certificate confirms factory fitted equipment of heater, Michelin X tyres, windscreen washers and even details the

ship that the car was transported on, the ‘Bataan’ out of Kingston-upon-Hull, originally in lefthand drive guise. The current owner purchased the car from respected marque specialist Robin Lawton and was informed that HOD426E made its way to Malta in the mid 1960s and eventually found its way back to British shores in January 1967, as indicated by the registration document. Supplied with a large number of old MoT test certificates and receipts from marque specialists detailing expenditure over the years. The current owner has spent in excess of £4,000 recently and consequently, the car is in fine working order and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner for sunny adventures.

International Trophy Sale

The Triumph TR4 was introduced in 1961 to follow its very successful predecessors, the TR2 and TR3. Code named ‘Zest’ during development the body was given a more modern and updated appearance by Michelotti but its drive train and chassis remained the same using the well proven 4 cylinder pushrod unit, however its capacity was increased from 1991cc to 2138cc. Handling was improved by a three inch wider track and steering was also updated to the more modern and precise rack and pinion system. Internally the car gained wind up windows and the new angular rear end allowed for a boot with a very reasonable luggage capacity for a sports car. Another innovation was the option of an alloy hard top with a removable roof panel that was five years ahead of Porsche’s famous 911 Targa. 40,235 cars were built between 1961 and 1965 and over the years this car has become one of Triumphs most popular sports cars.

Lot 303>> 1959 Volkswagen Beetle International Trophy Sale

Lot 303

1959 Volkswagen Beetle Registration: 3136 XI Chassis Number: 2539690 Engine Number: Not Specified Estimate (£): 10,000 - 12,500

This charming Beetle was supplied in Belfast by VW Dealers Isaac Agnew , in September 1959, at a cost of £716. 10s. 10d, to Mr Alexander Devon Bulloch, a local artist. Both the original order sheet, showing the Volkswagen range, and also the original invoice and receipt are retained by the vendor. Mr Bulloch used the car daily until 1993 when, through old age, he reluctantly gave up driving. The number plate carries the original Belfast area registration ‘3136 XI’ and it remains with the car. There are handwritten notes from Mr Bulloch outlining all the maintenance history. There are also the original handbooks where Mr Bulloch has detailed a series of comments and underlined sections. By 1993 the car was looking a little tired so, under supervision from our vendor, it became the subject of a complete ‘body off’ restoration which was to take 10 years. The rebuild was painstaking in its detail and is captured in a full photographic record from its original state through

22

w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

to the car’s present condition. The engine was removed and rebuilt and is fully detailed right through to the Bosch stamped distributor, Bosch 6V sticker and the oil change labels. The interior was completely refurbished. The seats were re-sprung and re-trimmed along with all the carpets and door cards. The parts were supplied and matched from colour cards/swatches that came from classic VW parts supplier Wolfsburg West. The original swatch card is included amongst the history file. No radio was ever fitted and the internal instruments and switchgear, including the steering wheel, show no discernible wear and work as new. The car was rewired, but retains its original 6V electrics all of which work perfectly. Likewise, the car retains its fully functioning semaphore type ‘trafficators’ and no modern indicators have been fitted. Following these rebuild works, the car was MoT’d in 2004 showing 61,190 original miles. Always garaged, but used sparingly since the restoration, it has always received an Mot annually. The current mileage we believe to be a genuine 63,722, approximately 2,500 of these have been since the restoration. Today the car remains in fabulous condition. There are some very minor imperfections to the paintwork but in all other respects the car presents and drives as new. As highlighted, the original handbook, original buff logbook and original VW key are present with the car. The photographic history details the car from Mr Bulloch’s ownership through its temporary demise and subsequent rebuild. Not to be missed...

Lot 304>> 1935 Austin Seven Ruby

At its peak, which lasted for more than a decade, well over 20,000 cars were being sold every year. In later life the engine found further use in Reliant three wheelers, and a passion for racing, encouraged by the 750 MC, saw power outputs pushed up to extraordinary levels. This delightfully original Austin Seven Ruby was first registered in 1935, it retains its original ‘buff’ logbook, original colours and registration mark. AYC 463 is great fun on the road and is a real pleasure to drive, the narrow cabin creates a cosy if confined driving environment, complete with the familiar seven driving controls which are all in

perfect working order. The engine fires up eagerly from cold with no nasty noises and soon settles to a steady tickover. We are informed by the vendor that this particular little Seven is in superb condition throughout, to drive this car is to recapture a lost world when the Austin logo was well respected. The interior was subject to a quality re-trim a few years ago and really sets the car off beautifully. The vendor informs us of a good history file with the car that outlines work that has been carried out over the years. Stylish simplicity was the Seven design mantra, surely this will be a great investment that can only appreciate in value or become a low mileage show stopper.

For years in the 1920s and 1930s the tiny Austin Seven was a best-selling little car. It set every standard of small packaging, it seemed cheeky, simple, and promised low cost motoring. In many ways, it was similar to the Mini which followed decades later. Initially on sale £165, (in the UK only the mass produced Ford Model T was cheaper,) so it provided unbeatable value for money. Austin sold tens of thousands of these little cars every year. At first the tiny 747cc engine produced a mere 10.5bhp but this increased gradually over the years, culminating at 17bhp in the mid1930s, by this time an Austin Seven could reach more than 50mph.

Launched in 1962, the new model was instantly distinguished from its Jaguar siblings by the traditional Daimler fluted grille and was initially only available with a bench front seat and 3-speed automatic box. It was updated in 1967 with reclining front seats, slimmer bumpers, a dynamo rather than alternator looked after charging. It also came with a heated rear screen and various other upgrades. This model was known as the V8-250 rather than the 2.5-V8. Otherwise identical to the MKII, it featured all round disc brakes, independent front suspension and a Panhard rod located live rear axle. With 140bhp and 155lbft of torque on tap from its magnificently smooth and sonorous V8, the Daimler was capable of 115mph. Owned by the vendor for the last 13 years and looking resplendent in Sebring Red with contrasting tan leather interior this particular Daimler 250 V8 looks absolutely stunning. and structurally excellent with no major corrosion in the floor, boot well, arches and suspension mounts, so bodily the car is in superb condition with good panel fit/gaps. The paintwork is also in superb order with a great depth of shine. Inside the tan leather interior is in excellent order retaining a pleasant suppleness as well as a nice patina and beautiful aroma. The seats, door cards and carpets are exceptional and the headlining and woodwork appear original and in very good order. The car has some nice original qualities and with its bright paintwork, chrome wire wheels and beautifully aged upholstery, this really is a very attractive motor car. The vendor informs us that on the road this MKII Daimler performs well with a fit, strong, healthy 2.5 litre engine demonstrating excellent performance. The oil pressure reads well and there is no smoking or any engine related issues. The automatic gearbox is smooth and shifts well through all gears and works beautifully. The braking system, which was overhauled in 2010, pulls the car up perfectly. Cars like this are a testament to their careful loving owners, this Daimler really is a very strong and beautifully presented car that is ready to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come.

Lot 306>> 1971 Jensen Interceptor Mk.III

The Interceptor took its styling cues from the Brasinca Uirapuru, a little known Brazilian Coupé, but one that sported that distinctive large, curving wrap-around rear window that doubled up as a tailgate. The Mark II Interceptor was announced in October 1969 with revised frontal styling and vented disc brakes, and shortly afterwards, in 1971, came the Mark III. It had revised seats, fully cast alloy wheels plus some other improvements. There are bills and receipts dating all the way back to 1980 detailing all expenditure on this very well looked after Jensen. There are MoT test certificates dating back to 1982, which appear to substantiate the mileage 31,000 miles from new. The car has recently been completely repainted to a very high standard and recently re-trimmed in black leather with red piping. The vendor describes the car as: “stunning, the 6.3 litre engine provides plenty of power.” Not to be confused with other inferior examples of the marque, this Jensen presents beautifully and has mechanical and structural prowess to boot. The Jensen Interceptor was a sporting GT-class car, handbuilt in the UK by Jensen Motors between 1966 and 1976. The car broke with a Jensen tradition by having a steel bodyshell instead of a glass-reinforced plastic one and by having the body designed by an outside firm, Carrozzeria Touring of Italy, the firm more recognisably associated with the likes of Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Maserati and Alfa Romeo. The engine was a Chrysler V8, initially of 6276cc, with optional manual transmission, but the more common choice was the TorqueFlite automatic transmission, drive was via the rear wheels through a limited slip differential and a conventional Salisbury rear axle. The engine grew to 7212cc in late 1971 and it acquired 4-barrel carburation.

1967 Ford Mustang V8 Notchback Registration: BBD 215E Chassis Number: 8R01T101723 Engine Number: Not Specified Estimate (£): 10,000 - 14,000

First released in 1964 the iconic Ford Mustang created a storm when it hit the streets and it still does to this day. Ford wanted to make the Mustang affordable and therefore it needed to share much of its engineering with an existing Ford product. They decided to base the Mustang on the smallest US Ford at the time, the Falcon. The Mustang was Initially offered as either a ‘notchback’ coupé or convertible, it shared its front double-wishbone/coil spring and leaf spring rear suspension with the Falcon. Compared to the Falcon its cockpit sat further back on the chassis, resulting in a longer front end and shorter rear design, both its roof and cowl were also lower in comparison. It’s with those proportions and detailed with such iconic touches as the running horse in the grille, the cut away side detailing and the rear lights divided into three sections, that the Mustang became a car people were instantly passionate about. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

Built in 1968 at the San Jose plant, California, this striking example is an original notchback car, but has latterly been upgraded to include a V8 engine before it was imported to the UK in 2007. Since then it has remained, mostly unused, in heated storage. Despite having only received remedial works the car is presented in truly fantastic condition. The Acapulco Blue bodywork with contrasting Black interior combine to really set the car off, and the five-spoke wheels, shod in Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tyres, complete the package. As a driver’s car this is much better than most thanks largely to the manual 5-speed gearbox and, once again, that bullet-proof engine. The car retains what is believed to be the original interior which is in superb condition. Some history accompanies the car, but it is not exhaustive. This shouldn’t detract from the vehicle however which impresses in the flesh, and at today’s guide price provides an awful lot of motor car for relatively modest expenditure.

The 2.8 RSR was truly a production based racer, the original underpinnings were from the road 911S and a dynasty would evolve to rightly put the Porsche 911 as one of the greatest competitors at all levels of motorsport.

1976 Ford Capri 3.0 Litre Ghia Registration: PAR958R Chassis Number: GAECSL04971 Engine Number: SL04971 Estimate (£): 10,000 - 14,000

The Ford Capri was the Ford Mustang of Europe. A mind boggling array of options meant that the Capri could be whatever you wanted it to be; just like the Mustang. The Capri was, in fact, a far more varied animal than the Mustang with engines ranging from 1300cc to 3100cc as well as a myriad of trim specifications. The most popular engine was the 1600cc unit but the object of most desire, was the three litre, in all variants from 1969 Mk.I to the 1981 3.0S and latterly, the 2.8. The Capri was ready for a special w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

preview in Bonn, Germany on 21st January, 1969, and then went on to be released to the press, on 24th January, at the Brussels motor show. There had previously been a press preview in Cyprus but Ford had requested that nothing about the new car be published until 24th January to coincide with the motor show. Surprisingly, this request was honoured and the Capri caused a sensation at the Motor Show. The model would stay in production for 18 years, 1969 to 1987. This extremely rare 1976 Mk II Capri 3.0 litre Ghia automatic must be one of the finest and most original examples left in existence. The car has covered a quite incredible 7,800 miles from new. The majority of mileage was covered during the first year of PAR 958R’s life, however, due to the bereavement of its first owner, it was bequeathed to his son who carefully stored and maintained his father’s pride and joy. In 2005, the second owner bought the Capri and sold it to the current owner approximately three years ago. Other than a stainless steel exhaust and refurbished alloy wheels, PAR 958R is as it left Tricentrol Cars, Chelmsford on 5th October 1976. The vendor states “this car drives as one would expect with no rattles or bangs and is as near to a perfect example as one is likely to find today.” Supplied with its original service book and folder, this Ghia Capri is a very special ‘museum quality’ investment proposition and has never been shown or offered to the public for sale.

Lot 310>> 1954 MG TF 1500

The TF was launched in October 1953 and it was a wellreceived. It was a face lifted version of the TD model that shared the basically the same TD Mark II engine that was uprated to 1250 cc and 57.5bhp. In addition it boasted headlights that were ‘faired’ into the front wings, a sloping radiator grille that concealed a separate radiator and a new pressurised cooling system along with a simulated external radiator cap.

This delightful and rare 1500 model is supplied with a Heritage Certificate that states the car was delivered to the American market on 4th October 1954. As confirmed by the original US title papers, the last owner was a Mr Carl T. Smith of Tennessee, where the car resided for many years in a warm dry climate. The current owner acquired the TF 1500 from marque expert Nigel Dawes over 23 years ago in 1990. Shortly afterwards it was converted to right-hand

Finished in a dark green interior with black interior, this tasteful colour combination attracts admiring looks whenever the car is driven. Wire wheels, bright chrome work and good paintwork provide any perspective owner with a highly useable example ready for summer motoring. The only blemish on the car is a slight crack in the paint on the offside front wing. Lot 311>> 1968 Maserati Ghibli - Barn Find

The Maserati Ghibli’s neat, low, hidden-headlamp nose with its wide bifurcated grille would show up again on the Giugiaro designed Bora and Merak, both of which were mid-engine Maseratis of the Seventies. Some say the Aston Martin DBS of 1967 borrowed some Ghibli details (check the side-window shape and see if you agree), but surely no one except Giugiaro could have produced such an artful yet aggressive looking car. It was long on personality if maybe a little short on practicality. Lines flow seamlessly from nose to tail, the proportions are perfect and the result is a grand tourer of classical beauty. Even the bonnet line has been kept remarkably low and sleek, with the smallest of clearance bulges, the whole thing is a masterclass in car styling.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. The Maserati Ghibli’s demise came in 1973 with the introduction of its direct successor, the Khamsin. Though more technically advanced, it wasn’t nearly as inspiring to look at. The result is that the 1,274 Maserati Ghiblis built still aren’t enough to go around. TRP118F has been locked away for nearly 14 years in dry secure storage since the expiry of the tax disc in the windscreen back in 1999. Despite requiring a complete restoration this Ghibli represents a unique opportunity to own what many people consider to be one of the most beautiful Maseratis ever built.

The Ghibli shared its basic chassis and running gear with the Quattroporte saloon and Mexico coupé. The wheelbase however was reduced by 3.5 inches from the Mexico’s, since the Ghibli was strictly designed as a two-seater GT. The Maserati Ghibli had the same tubular chassis, stiffened by pressings, foldings, and fabrications, and it had to make do with a simple live rear axle on semi-elliptic leaf springs. Like the Maserati Mexico it had disc brakes all-round. If none of this seemed very exciting, particularly next to its obvious competitors like the Ferrari 275 GTB and Lamborghini 400 GT, nobody seemed to mind, and it didn’t hurt the car’s performance or reliability one bit.

32

1975 Maserati Merak by Saurer Registration: JJH 944N Chassis Number: AM1220272 Engine Number: Not Specified Estimate (£): 35,000 - 40,000

Maserati followed-up its first mid-engined supercar - the Bora - with the similar Merak. Launched in 1972, the latter was intended as competition for Ferrari’s top-selling Dino 246 and used a stretched version of the Maserati-built fourcam V6 that had debuted in the Citroen SM. Derived from a V8 engine designed by the great Giulio Alfieri, Maserati’s V6 was increased in capacity from the SM’s 2,675cc to 2,965cc for the Merak and it developed 190bhp, which was good enough for a top speed of around 150mph. The unitary construction chassis, all-independent suspension and impeccable handling remained basically as the V8engined Bora’s, though to reduce costs the latter’s tubular rear subframe was replaced by an extension of the all-steel monocoque. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

Widely recognised as one of the finest, if not the finest, of contemporary V6s, the Merak engine proved smooth, powerful and capable of delivering its urge over a surprisingly wide range for such a high performance engine. Like any true thoroughbred, the Merak possessed handling commensurate with its breath-taking acceleration and 150mph maximum speed. ‘Performance and handling are the raison d’être of a mid-engined sportscar, and the Merak’s astounding cornering power is a match for its straight-line punch,’ observed Motor magazine. The most successful Maserati of its day, the Merak ceased production in 1983 after just 1,832 had been built. This car however is unique. What began as an Italian supplied LHD 1975 Merak has become one of the most desirable sports cars of its era thanks to the foresight and design skills of Carrosserie Saurer in Switzerland. The subject of a complete and uncompromising restoration to a simply stunning condition and finished in Silver with Red Leather interior, the modification in 1984 to what Paul Saurer considered his ideal ‘Hot Merak’ is something to behold. The redesigned bodywork is not ‘a plastic addon’ totalling the sum result of an enthusiastic amateur in his garden shed, but rather a beautifully hand-crafted realisation of the full Saurer expertise in aluminium and

completed to the highest standard. All original running gear has been retained and the new bodywork now accommodates exceptionally rare 12inch and 15inch Gotti 3-piece split rim wheels, shod in brand new 345x35 bespoke manufactured tyres to the rear costing an impressive ÂŁ600 each!

Upon completion the car is understood to have remained in a private Swiss collection until 1995 when it passed to an owner in Spain. The car remained here until discovered and imported to the UK in 2009 since then it has had only two owners and has most recently been shown and admired at a handful of high-profile UK Concours and events including the Graypaul Maserati UK Concours, the Maserati UK stand at the Silverstone Classic, Italian Supercar display at Chelsea AutoLegends and the Octane Magazine Windsor Concours D’Elegance. This is a unique motorcar, well known, well documented and would be a worthwhile addition to any serious collection...

1983 Maserati Quattroporte Registration: FWD 490Y Chassis Number: AM33049A003452 Engine Number: Not Specified Estimate (£): 8,000 - 10,000

Introduced in 1979, Maserati announced the Quattroporte III to much fan fair by Maserati Chief Alejandro De Tomaso. Launched to take on the might of the king of the hill Mercedes S Class, the new Quattroporte was the last hand built luxury car to be built by the Italian manufacturer. Equipped with a 4.9 litre V8 engine mated to a 3 speed automatic transmission this was a car lavishly equipped with heavy styling cues taken from the Kyalami Coupé. Exclusivity is a given with a Maserati, in all only 2155 of this particular generation Quattroporte were built, and production ceased in 1990. Interestingly Turinese coachbuilder Salvatore Diomante also offered a 65cm longer limousine version, specification included full white leather, burr walnut, mini bar, video recorder along with many other luxury fittings pushing the price of this car up to a whopping 210 million lire. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

Manufactured in January 1983, we are informed by the vendor that this particular car was sold to a wealthy customer in the Middle East region, it subsequently remained in that part of the world until it was imported to the UK in 1990 by a ‘Mr Davies’ who we are then informed kept the car in dehumidified storage for the next ten years. We are informed that the car is well known to Maserati marque specialist ‘Bill McGrath’ with paperwork and MOTs going back over the last 14 years that clearly show a careful maintenance schedule to this very rare car. During the last 12 months the air conditioning system has been upgraded to accommodate the modern R134a gas system, and will come with a brand new MOT, again carried out by Bill McGrath. This car has to be admired for both its mechanical form and palpable charisma, not to mention its power and presence on the road. This is undoubtedly a car for those who enjoy great machines and great folly, and who don’t need the assaying effect of a german badge on the bonnet.

The Ducati Monster is a motorcycle designed by Miguel Angel Galluzzi and produced by Ducati in Italy since 1993. It is a ‘naked’ bike, characterised by an exposed engine and frame. The deliberate use of the trellis frame in the Ducati monster is an integral part of the motorcycle’s design allowing for both aesthetic appeal and for structural efficiency. In 2005 Monster sales accounted for over half of Ducati’s worldwide sales. Ducati motorcycles use almost exclusively 90° V-twin engines, which they call L-twins, with desmodromic valves and tubular steel trellis frame, features designed by Fabio Taglioni. The Monster line has had numerous variations over the years, from the entry level 400cc bike up to top of the line 130hp multivalve, water-cooled superbike-engined versions, with as many as nine different Monster versions in a single model year. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

The story of the Beetle is well known; it was initially designed to provide cheap transport for the hard working German masses. Built in very small numbers before and during World War II, the Beetle literally rose from the ashes of Volkswagen’s bombed-out Wolfsburg factory to become an instant success in Europe, Britain, America and virtually every other country in the world. The model evolved through various facelifts and numerous mechanical changes - there were more than 70,000 identifiable modifications during its production life - and it also provided a platform for other models, including commercial vehicles and sporting derivatives such as those by Karmann-Ghia. It was this constant development and attention to detail that allowed production of the Beetle to race past the 15,000,000 mark, earning it the title of the best-selling car of all time.

1965 Morris Mini Cooper S 1275cc Registration: CSM 848C Chassis Number: KA2S4/676792 Engine Number: 9F-SA-Y-36605 Estimate (£): 20,000 - 24,000

First introduced in 1959, the Mini is the most famous small car in the world. The inventor, Sir Alec Issigonis, and friend, John Cooper, could both see the potential of the car in competition and their joint vision lead to the Morris Mini Cooper first appearing in 1961. Their development and evolution eventually led to the Austin Mini Cooper S appearing in 1963, and they went on to claim world-wide success in both rallying and racing with the versatile and nimble Mini. The Cooper S’s iconic appeal as a sportier version of the Mini was specifically underlined by its success at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967, as well as its appearance in the 1967 British film The Italian Job, in which Minis and Mini Coopers play a key role in a bank heist.

This Mk 1 Cooper S has covered a graceful 42,000 miles from new. This mileage is substantiated by a documented history from the first owner until today. CSM 848C was first registered on 23rd April 1965 via Thomas Corrie Ltd, Dumfries in Tartan Red with 4.5 inch wheel rims, oil cooler and twin fuel tanks options. The current owner restored the car from 2004 to 2006 after the 3rd owner had kept it off the road for nearly 28 years. Crucially based on the original shell, complete with The DVLA Z5 to 2S mistake, the restoration was a complete nut and bolt overhaul. New steel panels were fitted and the original engine and gearbox completely rebuilt. The car is finished in the correct Tartan Red - Old English White bodywork with stunning Newton Commercial seat coverings. Overall, no expense was spared in rebuilding this Cooper S to original specification. Supplied with a Heritage Certificate, numerous bills and receipts for works carried out and with only 4 owners from new, Mk 1 Cooper S’ of this quality are an increasingly rare find with values continuing to soar.

Lot 318>> 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500SL

When it comes to real-world affordable cars, few are better engineered than a Seventies or Eighties Mercedes. One of the best on offer was the R107 SL, which was produced at a time when build quality was king: engineers ruled, rather than bean counters. Production ran for 18 years and 237,287 cars were built (including SLCs) making it the second longest single series ever produced by MercedesBenz, after the G-Class.

The 15 hole ‘Mexican hat’ alloys are unmarked and all 4 tyres retain plenty of tread at each corner to provide sure footed grip at all times. The underside of the car looks as good as the topside with no corrosion or chips to be found anywhere. The engine bay is also in fine fettle with absolutely no signs of leaks. All fluids are clean and to the correct level, all pipes appear supple and also in good condition. The big heavy doors close with a lovely bank

1989 Lister Jaguar XJS 6.0 Registration: XJS 23X Chassis Number: 04OLJ Engine Number: LP049/60L Estimate (£): 20,000 - 25,000

Offered here is a Lister-engineered Jaguar XJS from 1989, finished in metallic blue with parchment leather interior. Potent and super-quick, with that special V12 motor of 5995cc capacity reportedly in excellent order. Turn the ignition key and as soon as the spark hits the vapour in the combustion chambers, the V12 is transformed into an orchestra- a symphony of mechanical timbres, percussive valves and blatting exhausts. It whoops, dips, bellows and howls, for anybody who has ever loved an engine, there is nothing to prepare you for the sound of a Lister V12. We are informed by the vendor that this Lister drives superbly with the manual gearbox said to be in good working order, the low build, wide track make it feel very nimble and capable, its grip levels are enormous. The vast tyres that wrap those rims are virtually unshakeable in the dry, despite that brutal power plant the engine has a w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

wide range of talents, from in town docility to absolute screaming aggression. The overall appearance of this Lister Jaguar is of a car that has clearly led a very pampered life. We are informed the car is structurally sound, the rear panel, boot floor and front wings, all notorious corrosion areas are reported to be in good order. A factory service book is included in the sale along with the original delivery folder containing supporting service documentation that has been gathered over the years. The vendor informs us that the mileage of just over 80000 miles is genuine and is supported by various bills and paperwork, also included in this sale is the valuable XJS number plate and a valid MoT certificate. Interestingly, we are informed by the vendor that whilst the car has been in his ownership in 2003 he was invited to exhibit the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on a sponsored stand of ultimate road cars together with Nick Mason’s F40 and Jay Kay’s 2002Tii. The earth shattering noise that this car produces is justification enough to have it in any collection, let alone its rarity, quality and significance as a part of Jaguar’s extraordinary history. Start it up and you will hear and feel this unforgettable car come to life.

The Porsche 930 Turbo was a genuine ‘Supercar’ that defined the seventies and eighties. It was one of the fastest production cars available at the time. It was first seen at the 1973 Paris Auto Show and full production commenced two years later. The basic engine underpinnings came from the Carrera 2.7RS which was increased to 3.0Litres and, of course, turbocharged with technology gained from Porsche’s 917/30 Can-Am program. The bodywork received special treatment to produce one of the most aggressive looking Porsches ever made with its wide arches and impressive rear whale-tail. The brakes came directly from the Porsche 917 race car. The final evolution of the 930 Turbo saw the engine capacity increased to 3299cc, with improved upgrades on the intercooler and fitment of the G50 transmission. By 1989, the final year of production, the power had risen to 330bhp.

Registered in 1988 this final specification 930 Turbo represents the best of all the derivatives regarding power output, reliability and the G50 5-speed transmission. This C16 (produced for the UK market) was supplied by AFN and came with the following factory options; 40% locking differential, sunroof, sports seats, rear belts and an audio upgrade. It was delivered to the first owner Brian May of Dulwich. To date it has had just six owners, the last since 2005. There is a full history file confirming a continuous maintenance record. It also confirms that the engine and turbo were rebuilt and new clutch fitted at 105,000 miles. It is sold with full MoT. This iconic Porsche remains one of the most recognised of all 911’s with evocative bodywork and performance that became a benchmark. This represents a great investment opportunity and it will always be admired as a true ‘supercar’.

Lot 322>> 1961 BMW Isetta 300

The Italian-designed Isetta microcar was built under licence in a number of different countries, including Spain, Belgium, France, Brazil, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Produced in the post-World War II years, a time when cheap short-distance transportation was most needed, it became one of the most successful and influential city cars ever created. Because of its egg shape and bubblelike windows, it became known as a bubble car, a name later given to other similar vehicles. In 1962, Isetta of Great Britain stopped production of the little cars but continued to produce Isetta engines until 1964.

Presented with a stunning history from new including the original bill of sale, owners handbook, guarantee and workshop manual, this Isetta is in lovely original condition having we are told never seen a welder. As can be seen in the history file the car has always been loved and well looked after being repaired when needed and not left to decay like so many. Still fitted with its original engine and matching chassis and engine numbers as BMW put it

After a full BMW service as per the manual, changed oil, new spark plug, replaced fuel lines and the flushed fuel tank the little Isetta roared popped back in to life. Presented with a fresh MOT this Isetta is we are told in full working order ready to be driven away. If you have a little further to travel then don’t worry as included in the sale is a high spec heavy duty galvanised trailer that has had relevant modifications carried out to accommodate the little BMW making it very practical to take anywhere across the country.

1977 Lancia Beta Saloon Registration: DCP 714S Chassis Number: 828CB310577 Engine Number: Not Specified Estimate (ÂŁ): No Reserve

First registered 16.09.1977, this car was supplied by Lockwood Motor Garage in Huddersfield at a total cost of ÂŁ3,241.00 with the original receipt of purchase included in the history file. The car is officially listed as a Sedan in Maronne Parioli; Brown to you and I. The very comfortable interior is trimmed in contrasting cream velour and shows little sign of wear. The car has had one registered owner from new. Originally a 1300, the car was converted to a 2000 twin-cam, with correct five speed gearbox almost 15 years ago and is badged as such. The car was extensively refurbished around this time. We understand this included a retrim of the seats, a bare metal repaint and a full rebuild of the twin-cam engine. We cannot categorically confirm this, but were informed that this restoration was carried out by one of the Lancia technicians who had worked for the supplying dealer. At this time the mileage in the speedo was reset to zero; this w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

being the case the mileage is now reading c7,300 miles and the car has a full UK MoT to September 2013. The car still presents well, save for a small number of stone chips and some cracking to the paintwork. The interior is as stated above excellent. The car benefits from retaining its Original Cromodora alloys (incl spare) which are a little pitted in places, but generally present well. The car must be nearly unique in that it has never seen any apparent welding, nor to our knowledge does it require any. We understand the car was heavily treated with underseal and waxoyl from new throughout and as a result remains a rare survivor. (Perhaps if Lancia had taken such care....!) Although currently MoT’d the car has seen very limited use for several years and in our opinion would benefit from on-going fettling to be improved for extensive use. That said, the car is reported to drive remarkably well, the clutch is light, gears select properly, the brakes and steering are tight and direct. The photographs are recent, but probably present the car better than reality. Amongst the history are various original documents, including original purchase receipt as stated above, original handbook and service book. Both sets of original keys are present, as are a number of spares which will be included.

Lot 324>> 1967 MGB Roadster

This particular MG roadster has been in the hands of its current owner, a time served engineer with what was then ‘The Austin Motor Company’, for the last 23 years and as such this particular MG has been maintained to an incredibly high standard. We are informed that the car is totally original apart from the fitting of a stainless steel exhaust system, pancake air intake filters, electronic ignition and a separate header tank. Shut lines are narrow and consistent and all bodywork has true angles and straight surfaces, all lights, mirrors and handles are also in excellent working order.

The car pulls strongly through the gears and offers excellent performance, the engine performs faultlessly with no untoward noises from the running gear under load or on the overrun. MUE 395E has lots of power and handles perfectly. Steering is full of progression and lets you know exactly what’s happening, while the gearbox is quick and easy to use, stick it into third gear and its torquey flexibility shames many modern engines of a similar capacity, alternatively if you want to make the MGB work for its dinner, you’ll be treated to a nice gravely bark as it guns for the 60mph dash. The car is completely original and offers a fabulous driving experience that makes the MG roadster such a universally loved classic car, its as solid and rugged as the day it rolled off the production line. Riding on steel wheels the car comes with full tonneau cover, a large history file and will be sold with a fresh MoT test certificate.

Launched in September 1962 the new 1798cc MGB Roadster caused a sensation when it first appeared. The MGB had a shorter wheelbase than the MGA which it replaced and an altogether more squat appearance which produced a sports car which was immediately attractive to the eye - and many decades later it has remained a timeless design. In Britain the basic price of an MGB was £950 with tax which compared very favourably with the Sunbeam Alpine at £695, the Triumph TR4 at £750 and the Austin Healey 3000 MkII at £865. Today the MGB is still seen as perhaps the most practical classic sports car you can buy with its perennial good looks, driver appeal and ease of maintenance for the enthusiast.

The Ford Mustang is a car that needs no introduction introduced by Ford in 1964 to an enthusiastic and inspired audience. Over 100,000 orders were taken in the first 3 months that the car went on sale and the car was both an instant and long term sales success. It was forever immortalised by Steve McQueen during that famous car chase scene in the 1960’s film ‘Bullitt’ and as a result good Bullitt replica cars are considered by many as the most collectable of all Mustangs. Silverstone Auctions are pleased to offer this genuine ‘S’ code 390 big block Ford Mustang built in March 1968.

It was originally built and delivered in Highland Green with Luxury Interior and to GT specification. To call this car a Bullitt replica would be an injustice as the car left the factory in almost the exact specification as the actual Bullitt car itself. Subject to an American restoration believed to have been undertaken 10 years ago the car was converted to full Bullitt appearance by removing the grill and fitting Bullitt style American racing wheels along with other subtle modifications. The car was restored whilst retaining as much of the original car as possible to preserve the rarity of the car itself. As a result the car is still fitted with the original interior and almost every original item that was removed when converting to the car has been kept and is available with the car. This is a fantastic and rare opportunity to purchase possibly one of the most factory correct Bullitt replicas.

Lot 326>> 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixedhead Coupé, Chassis #51 International Trophy Sale 48

Lot 326

1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Fixedhead Coupé, Chassis #51 Registration: 357 NME Chassis Number: 860051 Engine Number: R2791.9 Estimate (£): 65,000 - 80,000

Since Jaguar launched the phenomenal E-Type in July 1961 to great acclaim, the early pre-production cars or ‘flat floors’ as they were known, have since become highly desirable and are now regarded as the most collectable, and potentially most valuable, of all E-Types ever built. Rarely do they come to market, and even more rarely are they seen in the exceptional and highly original condition as the one offered here today. Built as an original right hand drive UK car in November 1961, and first registered in Jan 1962, this car is finished in its original colour scheme of Opalescent Silver with red leather upholstery. The car has ‘matching numbers’ and thus retains the original engine and correct Moss gearbox with which it left Coventry in Jan 1962. The trim retains all the original features, dashboard and seats, as well as the original steering wheel and instruments. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

The car drives very well and the engine is smooth, (we drove it in April 2013) with no smoke on start-up and it has benefitted from regular maintenance and upkeep. It was part restored in 2012 with a complete external re-paint at a cost of over £14,000 by recognised Midland experts, PL Carbodies (bill available for inspection in history file). The interior is unrestored, but highly original. Externally the chrome work needs restoring to match the excellent finish of the paintwork, but otherwise the car is ready to enjoy driving this summer. Unusually the car’s V5C shows just one registered keeper from new, although the original buff log book is missing, so this cannot be proved for certain. It represents an amazing and extremely rare chance today to acquire an important piece of Jaguar history that can only gain in value as the legend of the E-Type continues to grow in stature.

The Alfa Romeo Spider was produced from 1966 to 1993. It is widely regarded as a design classic and it remained in production for almost three decades with only minor aesthetic and mechanical changes. 1971 saw the Spider Veloce get a new, larger powerplant - a 1962cc unit - and consequently the name was changed from ‘1750 Spider Veloce’ to ‘2000 Spider Veloce’. The 1600 Spider restarted production a year later and emerged as the ‘Spider 1600 Junior’, it was in fact visually identical to the 1300. The 1300 and 2000 cars were modified in 1974 and 1975 respectively to include two small seats behind the front seats, thus becoming a “two plus two” four seater. was removed before being repainted in the very eye catching Alfa Romeo Le Mans blue. The car was then put back together with any parts that were too worn, replaced or rebuilt. The previous owner was a BBC director who bought the car in 1999 and the bill of sale from the garage can be seen in the superb history file which includes receipts for all parts and costs for the restoration, along with history from the previous owner that shows expenditures of over £12,000 in the last 11 years. When the previous owner purchased the car the car mileage was showing just 66,000. In 2003 he had engine rebuilt at 70,000 miles and the clock is now showing just 77,000 miles. Having covered just over 10,000 miles since 1999 and with a full engine rebuild, body and suspension restoration, this car is ready to be fully enjoyed in the summer months.

The Mini is considered an icon of the 1960s and has become one of the most famous classic cars of all time. Alec Issigonis, who designed the Morris Minor, was asked by BMC boss Leonard Lord to design a car that would drive the bubble cars off the road. He was instructed to design a car that would seat four, be the smallest car that the Corporation currently made and to use an existing engine. So the Mini was given the A series engine that had already been used in the Morris Minor and Austin A35 thereby making economical use of existing parts. The only difference was that it was mounted sideways in a very clever arrangement with the gearbox in the sump driving the front wheels. This design has been taken up by pretty much every car manufacturer worldwide to this day.

1959 Austin Healey 3000 Mk.I Registration: 694 YUE Chassis Number: HBT71/1637 Engine Number: Not Specified Estimate (£): 30,000 - 35,000

The Austin Healey 3000 has become one of the best known British classic cars of the 1950s and 1960s following spectacular success in international rallying and on the race track. The BT7 offered here today bears out the last sentence. A car with massive appeal to a wide audience, it ‘cuts the look’ be it at Goodwood, at Silverstone, at many of the countries club events, or on the school run. Originally built for the German market, chassis #1637 eventually landed in the USA where it spent a number of years before being repatriated to the UK in 1990 and sold for the princely sum of £6,500 by Kestrel Motors of Welshpool. In the succeeding years, the car was to undergo an extensive and enduring rolling restoration only truly reaching fruition in the past handful of months, and even then, it’s been completed to a point from which a new owner can still add their personal touches to the finished article. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

The invoices, totalling many thousands of pounds begin to appear around 1990 and 1991. They begin with nominal charges from the likes of SC Parts in the several hundreds of pounds. They then progress to the likes of Denis Welch Racing, the Northern Healey Centre, AH Spares and eventually Cape International for all manner of parts, labour, sundries and expertise which have combined to produce what is now a very impressive driver’s car. Passing through the hands of notable classic car enthusiasts including Roger Lowe and latterly Glen James, the car eventually passed to our vendor in 2011 who commissioned a £2,000 retrim and readied the car for occasional use with his family. Resplendent in Olde English White coachwork with contrasting and tastefully trimmed black leather interior, this car is presented in what some might consider to be ‘fast-road’ spec. A Denis Welch Racing tuned engine with racing rocker cover, bumper-less body, stainless steel oversized exhaust and devoid of wet-weather gear, this capable 3.0 litre Healey hits all the right notes on the open road. Many bills, invoices, correspondence and supporting history accompany this car which is sold with heritage certificate, current MoT and UK V5C Registration.

1959 MG A FIA Race Car Registration: Unregistered Chassis Number: YD3/1257 Engine Number: 48G159/RS16427 Estimate (£): 25,000 - 30,000

The MGA was produced from 1955 to 1962. It replaced the older “T-type” cars and represented a complete styling break from the older vehicles. The ‘A’ was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. Only 1,788 Twincam Roadsters were built. The MGA’s bodywork was based largely on that of a one-off MG TD specially built by the MG factory at the request of racing privateer George Phillips for the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans. This 1959 MGA originally left the factory as a genuine Twincam car in left hand drive specification destined for Germany. It remained in its original specification until the early 1970’s when it was purchased by one of the founding members of the German MG Car club and prepared for motor racing. The original MG A twincam engine was replaced for a more reliable 1600cc push rod engine and w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

was converted to right hand drive as most of the circuits are driven clockwise. The car has been extensively raced across Europe at all the major circuits such as Nurburgring and Spa. It even formed part of a three car historic MGA team called MG Corner Kelkheim in the 1980s, it was after this period the car was then sold and rebuilt in the mid-late 1990s, repainted in its current ash green and continued to race mostly in mainland Europe. Through the years the car has always been well prepared and is fitted with a rare works aluminum hardtop, a custom full roll cage, fuel cell and a race seat with race harnesses. Throughout its racing life it has always been run with Twincam wheels, (as can be seen in the period images) because of this the car is fitted with the stronger pegdrive Twincam hubs. We are told that the car and engine was refreshed some 4 years ago and has remained largely dormant since and as such is ready to be used in anger once more. Presented with current and more desirable Period E, FIA papers this car is eligible to race in huge amount of race series both in the UK and Europe including Carol Spaggs Pre-63’GT series and Masters events. This is a great opportunity to purchase a well-prepared car that has a superb history.

International Trophy Sale

The flagship Bentley Continental ‘R’ Mulliner was introduced in March 1999 and manufactured until 2003 by Bentley Motors in Crewe. Regarded by most as one of the last ‘real’ Bentley’s, the 6750cc turbo charged engine gave 420bhp and a staggering 650 Lbs/ft of torque, giving a 0-60mph dash of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of over 170mph. The ‘last of line’ models, which this particular car is, featured all the options that were ever offered both on the ‘R’ and ‘T’ models - including the upgraded engine to 420 bhp, suspension, wider wheels, tyres and wider wheel arches. They didn’t come cheap at well over a quarter of a million pounds each, making this car look extreme value in the classic market today. Finished in the best colour combination of dark Sapphire Blue (which appears almost black) and cream hide upholstery, with navy carpets and dark blue lambswool over rugs. This immaculate Lot comes with a comprehensive service history file showing at least one service for every year of its life and just 33,000 miles covered. If these cars are to escalate in value, and many informed collector’s think they will, then surely a chance at one of the ‘last of line’ models that has covered a modest mileage should be the one to own? Offered with current MOT and full service history.

Lot 333>> 1948 Land Rover Series One International Trophy Sale

Lot 333

56

1948 Land Rover Series One Registration: JM7931 Chassis Number: R860651 Engine Number: 860883 Estimate (£): 20,000 - 25,000

The Land Rover entered production in 1948 and it later became known as the Series 1. It was launched at the Amsterdam Motor Show in the same year. It was originally designed for light farm and industrial use it had a steel box section chassis and an aluminium body. It was designed to be a basic vehicle, even tops for the doors and a canvas roof were optional extras. The rugged Land Rover was well received by the public and ended up being used not just for agricultural work but also by police forces, military organisations, aid workers in remote places and explorers alike all across the globe. It is very rare to even see an early Series 1 such as this, let alone up one that is for sale. It is identified as number 651 off the production line so, this is a very early model, easily identifiable by its pre 1500 square bulkhead and ring pull 4WD mechanism that is located in the driver’s foot well w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

along with many additional rare features that were only found on the early 1948 Land Rovers. We are informed by the vendor that the vehicle was correctly and painstakingly restored in the mid-eighties using many original parts that were still available at the time. There are various bills and paper work that go with the vehicle. Since this restoration it has only covered 800 miles due to the fact that it was part of a private collection of Land Rover vehicles and, as a result, has not been seen by the public in over 30 years. Identification numbers are as follows: Chassis=R860651, Engine=8600883, Gearbox=860852, Carburettor=48 32PB12k48, Front Axle=860477. We are informed by the vendor that the rear axle is also a matching number item and are awaiting confirmation. The vehicle exudes a superb patina that is in keeping with exactly what a Series 1 Land Rover should look like. We are informed that this is indeed an ‘all matching numbers’ vehicle as it was delivered from the factory . Supplied with its original buff logbook from new in 1948 this is a chance for any Land Rover enthusiast harbouring a desire to own or invest in what is a true piece of history. It is also important to note that Land Rover is celebrating 65 yearsin production this year.Carrying its original registration number ‘JM 7931’ this fantastic Land Rover is ready to go and available now. It comes with a fresh MOT and is sure to be appreciated and enjoyed by the lucky new owner.

Lot 334>> 1964 Ferrari 330GT Series 1 International Trophy Sale

Lot 334

58

1964 Ferrari 330GT Series 1 Registration: EBW 293B Chassis Number: 5887 Engine Number: 6261 Estimate (£): 95,000 - 110,000

There were three distinct 330GT 2+2 body styles all made with 4 Litre V-12 engine totalling 1,137 cars including prototypes. The first of the series was a continuation of the 250GT/E body but fitted with the new higher-output engine. These are known as 330GT America cars. Just 50 examples of this model were made and all in left hand drive. The second was a new body style by Pininfarina, commonly known as a Series 1 model having a total production run of just 503 cars with a four headlight design being the distinct feature, like the car offered here today. The fantastic Colombo’s high output 300bhp engine was fitted to all series 1 cars, adorned with triple Weber 40DCZ/6 carburettors and mated to the 4-speed manual gearbox, complete with a versatile overdrive unit (allowing selection within 3rd and 4th gears) with such combination taking w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

the vehicle from 0-100km in just 6.3 seconds. Clearly one of the fastest cars of the early/mid sixties era with only 627 cars ever made the Series 1 model had without doubt few rivals. The final body style for the 330GT, the Series II, saw a redesign of the front end, changing from four headlights to two and Ferrari made some mechanical changes including a different 5-speed transmission, dispensing with an overdrive unit. Chassis 5887 is a Series 1 car despite sporting Series II side vents which, in many people’s opinion, simply look better. Having started life in the USA the vehicle remains in left hand drive guise and was imported from America to the UK in 2002. Upon landing, it was considered to be far too good for converting to the most desirable Ferrari 250GTO, as a replica like so many of its peers. The then owner who was a qualified and recognized Aston Martin specialist himself retained the car as a personal vehicle and it became the family GT Tourer for trips to the South of France. Being an engineer himself the car was readily maintained and wanted for nothing. As such, she starts with ease, performs faultlessly and has plenty of power in reserve to make the driving experience comfortable and enjoyable, even in unsympathetic modern traffic.

Lot 334>> 1964 Ferrari 330GT Series 1

In current ownership for more than 18 months, EBW 293B has been stripped and re-sprayed in correct Ferrari Blu Pozzi colour (a beautiful blue black hue with colour depths which change in different light conditions), before being carefully pieced back together with particular attention being made to the door shuts which are remarkable for a car of this age. The chromework is in exceptionally good order and the original Borrani wheels (standard only on the series 1), of which there are five including the spare, are in all round good condition with the spinners having been recently re-chromed. New Pininfarina badging adorn the rear quarters on each side, and not yet fitted are two prancing horse emblems in yellow to be fitted to the front wings if one chose. A stainless steel exhaust system has also been fitted.

International Trophy Sale

In all, this is an excellent and honest example of the car that Enzo Ferrari himself once described as his favourite car, and is befitting of worthy consideration given its sensible guide price. Another 330GT, albeit previously owned by John Lennon (who as far as we know had no specialist engineering qualifications) shall soon be offered to the market at a guide price between £180,000 and £220,000 suggesting that these cars are due for a steep climb in values... Being sold only to fund the acquisition of an important Aston Martin to fulfill a boyhood dream, this 330GT has an MoT test certificate to March 2014, is accompanied by several past MoT’s, Ferrari Parts Manual, a tool bag, previous HPI check result, a copy of the 330 GT Registry, a copy of the 330 GT Buyers Guide, various related publications and a small number of invoices and bills for maintenance to the car.

1958 AC Ace Roadster Ruddspeed FIA Registration: KDF 616 Chassis Number: EL1558 Engine Number: RM28771100596 Estimate (£): 80,000 - 95,000

The AC Ace was introduced in 1953 to a design by John Tojeiro. It featured an alloy roadster body mounted on a tubular ladder frame chassis with independent suspension by transverse leaf springs. The AC Ace was originally powered by the AC’s own 2-litre straight six engine, then from 1956 the Bristol 2-litre straight six became optional. This was subsequently replaced by the 2.6 litre straight six Ruddspeed unit. This was based on the Ford Zephyr engine. Some were built with a Raymond Mays alloy head and either triple Weber or SU carbs. Only 37 Ruddspeed powered cars were built before the Ace was superseded by the Cobra in 1962. The Ace offered here is effectively the 38th to leave the factory and was built to exacting standards over 19 years by well-known w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

specialists including Bill Monk, who has over 45 years’ experience of restoring all kinds of motor cars, Steve McFarlane of McFarlane Prototype Panels, Coventry, and Nigel Winchester of Winchester Motor Sport. 2010 saw completion of the project and fewer than 2,000 miles have been covered since, this is backed up by MoT test certificates. This special AC Ace features all aluminium bodywork and the period AC chassis number, #EL1558. The mechanical components are from the 1960s, including the Stage 5 Ruddspeed engine with its alloy head and triple Webers giving 180bhp. Also present are the Moss gearbox with overdrive on fourth, front discs, rear Alfin drums, a detachable roll cage, a fully trimmed interior that has the correct period instruments and gauges. 1948 Daimler DB18 Saloon Registration: CDO 252 Chassis Number: DB1852240 Engine Number: 15456 Estimate (ÂŁ): 14,000 - 17,000

This charming Daimler DB18, in British Racing Green coachwork, was completed in 1947 to a most exceptional quality by renowned coachbuilders, Barker & Co. The chassis manufacture was begun in 1941 but not completed until 1947 because of the war effort. Finally completed and registered in June 1948 with the license plate CDO 252 which it retains to this day. This delightful DB18 boasts an unrepeatable patina without appearing scruffy. Following the end of the War, Daimler cars continued production of its DB18 model featuring traditional hallmarks like the famous radiator grill. The DB18 used a 6 cylinder 2.5 litre power-plant complemented by a four speed gearbox. This DB18 lived in a garage for forty years until, after a family wedding in 1994, many hours of restorative works were undertaken, the results of which is still evident today.

The bodywork has been repainted and polished to as near to its originality as possible. A new interior roof lining was fitted to counter sagging, but the remainder of the interior remains true to 1948, albeit regularly cleaned and maintained. New rear wheel arch seals have been fitted and the undersides of all four mudguards have been cleaned, sealed and repainted. The chassis has been wire brushed and undercoated with black chassis paint. A new 12 volt battery has been fitted, and the battery leads and terminal ends cleaned to ensure a good connection. New valves have been fitted to enable the Daimler to run on modern unleaded petrol. Further details of the full restoration works are available to view at the sale. Our vendor, the fourth keeper of this car and custodian since May 1974, has ensured that the car has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, also that nuts and bolts etc have been greased. He has even made sure that the exterior has been regularly cleaned and polished thus preserving years of history to this day. Sold with UK V5C, a host of sundry invoices and receipts, MoT test certificate to August 2013 and buff log book this is certainly a usable and handsome 1940’s Daimler Saloon.

1998 Porsche 993 C2S Tiptronic Registration: tbc Chassis Number: WPOZZZ99ZVS314947 Engine Number: 63V52464 Estimate (£): 27,000 - 30,000

The original air-cooled Porsches are now truly acknowledged as the last of the ‘real Porsches’ both by owner/drivers and dealers. Values have been rising and demand is now outstripping the supply of correct cars. With its low mileage, sensible guide price and rare turbo bodywork this Porsche 993 Carrera 2S requires a close look.

On offer here is a rare and very late original UK 993 Carrera 2S being registered in February 1998. The ‘S’ came with the turbo bodywork and were ordered in very limited numbers. Finished in Midnight Blue metallic with grey leather it has only covered 69,300 miles and has a complete service record. The additional factory ordered extras are the sunroof, carbon-backed seats, xenon lights, on-board computer, Porsche Classic satellite navigation and speaker upgrades making this a very attractive specification. w w w .silver s toneauc t ions.com

International Trophy Sale

Porsche manufactured the 993 from 1993 through to early 1998, its discontinuation then marked the end of the aircooled Porsches. There were many technical improvements over the outgoing 964. The rear suspension was now alloy together with the sub-frame which made for far better handling and ride. The transmissions were improved in both the manual, now six speed - a first for Porsche and the Tiptronic gearbox became more sophisticated, recognising gradients and descents and so improving the driving experience. Mechanically, the brakes and exhaust systems were all improved. The bodywork was revised to give a more rounded style, with a genesis that is apparent in today’s 911s’. Engine development included Porsche’s VarioRam induction system that improved the torque characteristics of the engine, which greatly improved the overall performance. It was a standard feature from 1996 onwards.

64

1971 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Registration: MUV 944L Chassis Number: AR2411688 Engine Number: TBA Estimate (£): 14,000 - 18,000

The Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV Bertone Coupé, in its final evolution, was as ground breaking as Giugiaro’s earlier work for Bertone and it is still regarded as one of the prettiest Coupés ever produced. His design had a stunning visual balance that was enhanced by the clever use of shaping to the front and rear screens. Introduced in late 1972 at the stunning Gardone Riviera on the banks of Lake Garda, the final production run of the Bertone Coupé completely satisfied the Italian market, which was still sensitive to the over 2-litre tax system. Alfa Romeo would go on to produce over 36,000 units to meet the worldwide demand worldwide for this highly regarded Bertone design. This particular GTV is finished in one of the very best colour combinations of Bordeaux Red with a superb beige interior. The bodywork presents beautifully with sharp lines and the paintwork is described by the vendor as being original but w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

still retaining a bright shine. The current owner acquired this car in 1997 direct from the first owner, whose son he is still in contact with. Shortly after its purchase, ‘MUV944L’ won 1st place in an Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club concours event. Bills and receipts document every penny of expenditure over the last 15 years, with work carried out by marque specialists David Thomas of Hitchin and Lombarda in London. Sensible upgrades, such as Dellorto carburettors have been fitted, otherwise this Alfa is highly original to factory specification. MoT test certificates go back to 1996 and they help warrant the mileage of 29,700 miles. The vendor reports that this mileage is correct and that the first owner was an elderly gentleman who used the car most sparingly since taking delivery in 1972. An original service booklet and instruction manual can be found in the history file, along with many bills and a letter of authenticity from the Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club. Very rarely do Alfa Romeo GTVs of this quality, with low mileage, low ownership and such originality come on to the open market. We welcome any inspection prior to the auction and believe that this car represents a superb investment opportunity for the serious Alfa Romeo collector.

Lot 339>> 1970 Fiat 500L

The Fiat 500 was produced by Fiat S.p.A (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) between 1957 and 1975 and was designed by Dante Giacosa. Despite its diminutive size, the ‘500’ proved to be an enormously practical and popular vehicle throughout Europe. It captured the hearts and minds of the public until production ended in 1975.

This original left-hand drive Fiat 500 L from 1970 presents beautifully in tasteful blue paintwork with contrasting red interior. There have been no engine or gearbox modifications and the car has been restored to its standard specification in Italy during previous ownership. There is no documentation to support the extent of the work undertaken, but even to the amateur eye it is clear that

it has been conducted sympathetically and to a high standard. The current owner has treated the car to a new exhaust system and the vendor describes it as being beautiful to drive. The vendor reports that mechanically the car is very reliable and the bodywork and interior are also in extremely good condition. These loveable little 500’s are great value fun cars and rarely come better than this. They’re guaranteed to turn heads and provide a pleasurable driving experience. The perfect city car!

Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in July 1957 it was marketed as a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only 3 metres long, and originally powered by a 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 redefined the term “small car” and it is considered to be one of the first ‘city cars’. The ‘L’ or Lusso penultimate model, like the car offered here today, was produced between 1968 and 1972. It featured a much modernised interior including a renewed dashboard which brought the Fiat 500 up to date. Greater comfort and style were provided in this new model for a new generation, and the engine benefitted from a power upgrade to 499cc.

1986 Ferrari Testarossa Registration: C454ARU Chassis Number: ZFFWA19C000063685 Engine Number: 00585 Estimate (£): 50,000 - 60,000

This 1986 Ferrari Testarossa was one of the first right-hand drive examples delivered to the UK. The original bill of sale confirms the car was sold new in Rosso Corsa to a Formula One and Ferrari race team owner by Emblem Sports Cars (Nigel Mansell’s Ferrari dealership) in April 1986. Period dealer and factory telexes between the factory and dealership detail the painfully slow process of ordering a brand new Ferrari in 1985. These relate to a particularly slow delivery process, price increases and not a great deal of help from the factory: “Testarossa situation extremely difficult. Will try, repeat try, to schedule car in December.” Interesting original specifications included a factory sports exhaust, Rudge centre locking wheels and stunning high fixing side mirrors that graced these early cars. C454ARU was used sparingly by its first owner during the 1980s and he stored the car in a temperature controlled environment w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

until 2005, when it was recommissioned and returned to the road. Work included new cam belts, brakes, fuel lines, clutch and totalled over £16,000 in bills. The second owner purchased this car in 2008 until it came to the current owner in 2011. Now showing only 8,300 miles this Testarossa has recently undergone a major service with renowned marque specialists Terry Keys Motorsport in October 2011. This included cam belts and new clutch. A further inspection will be carried out by Terry Keys prior to the auction, along with a full condition report. The condition of this Ferrari is simply superb and any inspection is welcome to potential buyers. With a documented history and extremely low mileage, chassis number 63685 makes an excellent investment opportunity as Testarossa’s of this quality become harder to find.

1962 Triumph TR4 Registration: SFF369 Chassis Number: CT/15494-L Engine Number: CT/15533-E Estimate (£): 20,000 - 22,000

40,235 cars were built between 1961 and 1965 and over the years this car has become one of Triumphs most popular sports cars. w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

Finished in the original colour combination of Spa White with black interior, this charming TR4 has undergone significant expenditure over the last 20 years. The Heritage Certificate confirms chassis number CT/15494-L was built on 10th October 1962 for North American export. Optional extras including hard top, disc wheels, heater and sun visors! Returning to England in the 1990s, the car underwent a ground up restoration over a number of years. There are photographs and invoices for works completed at every stage of the rebuild. An engine rebuild and significant bodywork labour costs are detailed in the extensive history file. Mechanically, this TR4 has been prepared to fast-road specification. The standard TR4 developed approximately 105bhp, however, the owner states that this example produces closer to 125bhp with the help of an efficient exhaust system, fast cam and high port cylinder head. The engine bay also features a Kenlowe fan for improved cooling. Furthermore, the beautiful lines of this TR4 are exposed with the removal of the bumpers, giving the car a more aggressive and purposeful stance. Supplied with an MoT test certificate until July 2013, SFF 369 is ready for action this summer.

Silverstone Auctions are proud to bring this very special 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Razor Edge to auction. With just under 11000 warranted miles from new we are informed by the vendor that the only lower mileage Type 34 than this sits in the Volkswagen museum and therefore will never be for sale

The bodywork is a lesson in just how attractive these cars were when they were new and why they are so highly collectable today, the doors hang just as they did when the car rolled off the production line. All of the body panels are straight and dent free, while the flawless paintwork shows no marks whatsoever. Open the doors and you’ll be amazed at the condition of the complete interior, bucking the trend of so many VWs of this era that have seen their interiors fall apart, this one really is nigh on 100 per cent throughout.

Needless to say this car drives beautifully, the engine fires instantly and settles to a hearty air cooled thrum, the manual gearbox feels tight and precise it’s all standard and just as it left the factory back in 1967. The vendor informs us he is in possession of all of the original owner’s handbooks and all bills for work completed, plus a certificate of authenticity from the Volkswagen Auto museum. This is such a special motor car that will appeal to both collectors and enthusiasts alike, in truly astonishing condition both inside and out, yet retains the crispness of a new car. Cars like this do not come to market very often and we anticipate huge interest in this car from all four corners of the globe.

Lot 344>> 1972 Citroën DS-23 Chapron

Despite its popularity the limitations of the small French carrossier meant that relatively few Citroën DS Convertibles were actually made and it has now become the most highly prized variant of the car. Original convertibles have gained a high value and their exclusivity gave rise to replicas being made more recently from DS saloons by companies such as Worcestershire based Dee-Ess Conversions.

from a driving perspective (rather important, however attractive the clothes are ...), the DS feels very modern. The famous ‘black mushroom’ brake ‘button’ works perfectly well after a little acclimatisation and the very direct steering is finger-light.

A local body shop in Birmingham was tasked with the complex job of bringing this amazing car back to its former glory. We are informed that both doors and all the wings were removed for the purpose and then subsequently repainted in Borelly ivory (AC084). As soon as the car’s coachwork was complete the vendor then set about the task of refurbishing the seats and the soft top. At the same time it was decided to fabricate a new full and half tonneau cover set to go with the vehicle.

As values for a genuine factory convertible sky-rocket, the enthusiasts gaze will naturally fall upon alternatives that are almost indistinguishable from the real thing. So this amazing piece of automotive sculpture represents something of a bargain. The Citroën DS has, quite possibly, the greatest concentration of design and engineering genius ever seen in a car, indeed, that old rogue the late Alan Clark knew a classic when he saw one and indeed often wrote of his love for his DS convertible.

We are informed by the vendor that the car starts, the suspension rises and it drives and brakes very well, indeed

The vendor is a Citroën enthusiast and we are informed that this particular DS Cabriolet replica was purchased in 2010 as his life time ambition to own a DS Cabriolet. The car was driven around in the Sutton Coldfield area during the summer months of 2010 until, with the onset of winter approaching, it was decided that the Citroën was in need of attention to both its bodywork and interior.

1974 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 Registration: KWU 587N Chassis Number: 08794 Engine Number: 08794 Estimate (£): 19,000 - 23,000

Ferrari took a bit of a gamble with the 308 GT4. The company had established an incomparable reputation for fabulous sports and GT cars with front mounted V12s, but were so nervous of playing with the formula for road cars that the boys from Maranello kept the famous name off the 308 GT4 until 1975. For all this the car was a huge successmore than 3600 were sold, dwarfing sales of V12 models and showing Ferrari the way forward. We are informed by the vendor that this is 1 of 547 RHD cars supplied to the UK market; the car had a comprehensive body restoration between February 1996 and October 1997 which was photographed and documented and the fit and finish of the body remains in excellent condition to this day. Over the last 13 years the car has covered very few miles and has obviously been very well cared for. Rosso Corsa with beige velour and leather w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

was the original colour scheme and the paint is free from any significant marks or damage. Underneath it is a similar situation and the vendor informs us of a clean bill health throughout the car, all of the trim, glass and lights are present and correct and are all in good condition. The flat plane crank V8 barks into life, the carbs and exhaust competing for attention, the intake gurgle wins at lower revs before the raucous exhaust note on this car takes over as it wails towards the redline. We are informed by the vendor that the engine was rebuilt in 1992 by Ferrari specialist Rosneath Engineering at a cost of £5000. When warmed through both the engine and gearbox perform exactly as you would expect from a very well cared for example such as this and the car drives without fault, the braking system was overhauled in 1997 at a cost of £500 and more recently the cambelt was replaced in June of 2010 by Italia Autosport. This car has had owners who have maintained and restored the vehicle regardless of cost and this shows through in the driving experience. This really is a superb car in every way, the prices of these cars are on the up, this GT4 is quick practical and with a decent sized boot and near proper rear seats. Engines are tough by supercar standards and it drives beautifully, has a superb history portfolio and makes all the correct Ferrari sounds and represents astonishing value for money.

Lot 346>> 1956 Ford Thunderbird with Porthole Hardtop

The Thunderbird was Ford’s response to Chevrolet’s Corvette. When the Thunderbird was introduced in 1955, it outsold the more expensive Corvette by 24 to 1 as a result of clean styling, creature comforts, and V8 refinement. The 1956 included the addition of Ford’s Continental Kit which had become standard. This encompassed a rear mounted spare tyre and cowl vents on each side, as well as the all-important porthole windowed glass-fibre hard top - an optional extra at the time.

It is believed to have received a frame-on restoration by US marque specialists in 2002. Early in 2009, the Thunderbird was refinished in Raven Black. The original Special V8 and Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission were rebuilt and fuel and brake systems gone through at that time. The optional faux wire-wheel hubcaps are 1956-only optional equipment. Upgrades include a professionally installed air conditioning unit and concealed ventilation fans for uncommon cockpit comfort. A four-core radiator, heavy-

The well-appointed interior in tasteful two-tone Red and White is finished to an excellent standard with comfortcontoured three-person full width seating, period correct control panel and radio, as well as carpets and door-cards. This car further benefits from not only possessing the rare hard top, but also a brand new fabric-grained vinyl softtop (currently unfitted) which when not in use collapses discreetly behind the bench seating in roadster style. Late in 1993, after 3 years of production, the 348 was revised with enhanced styling changes and a power lift from 300 to 320BHP from its 3.4 litre V8. At the same time the suspension geometry was revised which was considered to vastly improve both the handling and ride quality of the car, particularly when coupled with the factory enhanced chassis rigidity. At the same time, and featuring these enhanced specifications, Ferrari introduced the Spider version. This car is one of only 75 Spiders that were made as right hand drive cars for the UK market. It has enjoyed a thorough programme of full annual maintenance whilst covering very limited annual mileage. The last service was undertaken by the well-known and highly regarded Ferrari specialists, Shiltech Performance Cars. In April 2012, with the mileage reading at just 30,248, the larger, more w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

The history file shows a very comprehensive service history, a vitally important factor with all Ferrari’s, and also regular servicing in line with manufacturer recommendations, including belt changes. The car has only covered 2,000 ‘summer’ miles during the last 4 years, all of which the vendor assures us, have been in dry conditions. Coming to the sale with 31,300 miles covered from new, this Lot includes a Ferrari fitted indoor cover, special Ferrari split rim alloy wheels, 12 months MOT and road tax until the end of September 2013. 1933 Lancia Astura Drophead Coupé by Pinin Farina Registration: 326 YUP Chassis Number: 30-2091 Engine Number: 1094 Estimate (£): 95,000 - 110,000

Lancia introduced the series one Astura at the Paris Motor Show in 1931 to replace the highly successful Lambda model. It was produced as a series one, two, three and four model until 1939. This series 2 car was one of just 750 series 2 models made in total, all fitted with a new V8 engine of 2600cc producing 72bhp. This drop head coupe model is very rare, which is relevant when one considers a saloon recently made £230,000 in auction! 1099 was the production number of this car, which the history file confirms was then to become chassis #302091 and engine number 1094, making this a matching numbers car today. The original date of sale was 18th May 1933 when it was sent to Pinin Farina for its hand made drop head coupé body conversion that it still carries to the present day. Supplied new to Baron De Gunzburg, a w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

Our vendor then enjoyed the car for 2 years whilst searching for parts throughout Europe in order to fully restore the car. He tells us major restoration work commenced in 1972 when the engine was rebuilt including a fresh bore of the cylinders, new crankshaft bearings, timing and water pump chains (along with new water and oil pumps) and also all the valve mechanism was overhauled completely. Finally a new stainless steel exhaust pipes and mufflers were fitted. Additionally, suspension (including front oil shock absorbers and rear mechanical shock absorbers controlled by oil pressure), axles, clutch and the gearbox were all rebuilt and the car was also rewired at this time. During 1978 the bodywork was stripped back and repainted and the interior completely retrimmed with new leather and carpets. This work was done by Dutch specialists benefitting from the guidance and help of the European Lancia cognoscenti of the day. Subsequently the car has been regularly used on trips to and around most of Europe and has given the owner, a distinguished and noted major Lancia collector/enthusiast, a great deal of pleasure. Now ready for it’s next chapter, this historically significant and highly collectable Lancia is a fantastic opportunity in to pre-war vintage car ownership.

Lot 349>> 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Fixedhead Coupé 2+2

It is difficult to imagine the impact that the Jaguar E-Type had when it was launched back in 1961. When the average saloons had a top speed of 70mph and most were desperately dull, the E-Type was an instant sensation. The pre-eminent aerodynamist Malcolm Sayer uniquely applied complex mathematical formulae to create the stunning E-Type shape. Ironically, he hated being called a stylist yet he designed what is arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever seen.

The E-Type offered here is a 1968 fixedhead coupé 4.2litre Series 2, 2+2 model with a 4-speed manual gearbox. It is finished in Opalescent Silver Blue and dark blue leather interior with a light patina. The paintwork and bodywork is in generally good all-round condition save for one or two areas on the driver’s door where the paint has begun to lightly bubble. We would describe the car as an honest example of a usable classic. The chassis is solid and the vendor has never had any cause for concern with the way the car handles or runs. The engine bay will not win any beauty contests but it is functional and reliable and has

There are fewer than 40,000 unverified miles on the clock substantiated by some, but not all MoT’s. 1953 Citroën Traction Avant Big 6 Peacock Roadster Registration: NXT 669 Chassis Number: 9/537533 Engine Number: PS67080 Estimate (£): 75,000 - 95,000

At the Paris Motor Show, in 1934, the ‘Traction Avant’ was launched. André Citroën’s dream of the first mass produced front wheel drive automobile was, at last, exhibited by the French manufacturer. From 1934 to 1957 about 760,000 units were produced throughout Europe at factories in France, Belgium , Holland and England, each powered by a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. In addition to the 9 variants of the 4-door saloon, the car was also produced as a 2-door coupé with a dickey seat and the 2 door cabriolet. Citroen only produced the Traction Avant Roadster between 1934 and 1940, nearly all of which used 4 cylinder engines; about 70 were produced in the UK at the Citroën factory in Slough. In Paris about eight cabriolet body shells were commissioned for the larger 6 cylinder engine but ultimately only six were ever finished. They were built at the Javel factory, all in w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

left hand drive. All Citroën were waiting for was an order from the UK for a 6 cylinder version and the car would undoubtedly have been assembled in Slough. In the late 1980’s our vendor commissioned the build of what is essentially the seventh Big Six Roadster from Peacock Engineering. In the early 1980’s, Peacock Automotive Engineering from Loughborough, Leicestershire had started to gain a reputation as a leading authority on these very desirable Citroëns. What began as a business repairing customers’ cars soon developed into fabricating new panels and pressings from scratch. Having built up the necessary press tools, jigs and machinery to assemble body shells, orders were taken to produce their own brand new cabriolet bodies. An authentic Peacock Roadster is therefore rather more than merely a saloon with the roof modified. The original Citroen 1934 to 1940 Cabriolet examples were all hand built, with additional strengthening to the box members, bulkheads, floor pans and dickey seat areas. Peacock body shells were constructed in exactly the same way but with the benefit of modern day corrosion inhibiting steel and rust proofing methods such as thorough Waxoyling. A Slough built donor car was essential to the build of this car, and ‘NXT 669’ - a 1953 Slough-built Big 6 located

in Liverpool was perfect. This would provide the front sub frame, rear axle and the power train to create this magnificent car. We are informed by the vendor that all of the power-train was subject to a major mechanical strip and rebuild, as well as the back axle, front sub-frame, suspension, brakes and steering were all reconditioned. The engine was rebuilt with white metal bearings, new pistons and wet liners so the whole car runs like new. The well-known Aldridge Trimmers of Wolverhampton were appointed to refurbish the leather and walnut interior and also manufacture a new ‘duck’ convertible hood. The last known UK chrome grille was reserved for the new Peacock Roadster. Throughout the last 30 years the Peacock Roadster has spent much of its time in Europe alongside, at one time, a collection of more than 17 Citroëns. The jewel in the crown of the collection, this is not just a classic design that has stood the test of time for 50 years, but a hand-built example that is likely to appreciate in value over the next fifty years. A very rare and very special motorcar.

1971 Porsche 911 2.2 S Registration: BFG 530 Chassis Number: 9111300841 Engine Number: Not Specified Estimate (£): 80,000 - 90,000

As we all now know, the introduction of the Porsche 911 in 1963 was the start of a fantastic era of a legendary sports car. As the 911 evolved it improved and the early air cooled cars have now become very collectable and this is particularly the case with the ‘S’ derived models that featured the more powerful engine derivatives. In 1969 the longer wheel base was introduced and fuel injection was offered on the performance ‘S’ versions in 1970/’71, along with Fuchs alloy wheels and a discreet front spoiler. This left hand drive 1971 Porsche 911 is an original 2.2 S that has recently been nut and bolt restored by leading UK Porsche specialists, Francis Tuthill. The shell has been stripped down and re-painted in it’s original colour and all the mechanicals have been overhauled and replaced where necessary, whilst retaining the original parts for

period accuracy wherever possible. This no expense spared process, which took Francis Tuthill close on 12 months, was completed in 2011 for the vendor who is a serious overseas collector. Both the engine and gearbox were rebuilt as part of the process with new parts fitted as required and a photographic record of all work carried out kept for posterity. All bills and receipts detailing the recent work carried out are available for inspection (totalling well over £50,000) and confirm the level of detail applied to the project and the determination to retain the car’s original specification. Since completion the car has covered just 500 km’s and is now ready to use and be enjoyed this Summer for serious European driving and touring. What a way to join in the celebrations of the 911’s 50th birthday!

The next chapter for the car started when the new owner, ex Bentley racer Paul Carter, decided to prepare the car for the ‘Carrera Panamericana’ in 1999. Over £60,000 was then spent with renowned XK expert, David Sedge of Maidstone. The history file shows photos of all the preparation work that was essential for the reliability and the strength required on such a major global endurance event. This included replacing many steel panels with lightweight aluminium.

1956 Jaguar XK140 Fixedhead Coupé SE Competition Registration: 420 AVT Chassis Number: S804840 Engine Number: G9718/8F Estimate (£): 58,000 - 65,000

Further engine work took the BHP up to just over 300 requiring a Getrag 5 speed gearbox. An integral roll cage, full harnesses, a ‘D Type’ style alloy filler cap and a competition fire extinguisher were all fitted to allow for the cars extra performance. Rated as ‘the best XK’ David had built at the time, it sadly never made the start of the intended Carrera Panamericana, but it did go on to race nationally at Oulton Park and also proved to be 100% reliable on the Monte Carlo Retro. Having driven this car recently, Silverstone Auctions can confirm that this car handles and drives superbly with a willing, strong engine and powerful brakes. Ideal for Historic rallies, Tours or races - this car is both sensibly guided and ready to go.

As well as powerful they were very well built rugged cars, designed to cope with the poor road quality of the early 20th Century. The Ferrari 365 GT4 2+2 was introduced in 1976 as the successor to the rather larger 365 GT 2+2. With its much sleeker looks the Ferrari 365, also designed by Pininfarina, remained in production with very few styling changes until 1989. It had proved to be a great success for the company. The 412 was introduced in 1985 and this was technically a much improved and modernised version of the classic design, whilst still retaining a timeless and most elegant shape. With a displacement of nearly 5 litres, the V12 engine now produced a healthy 340 hp and ABS was available for the first time in a Ferrari. The Ferrari 412i is the ultimate version of the 400-series four-seat Grand Touring cars and remains highly respected for its performance, luxury and ease of operation.

1995 Bentley Continental R Registration: N753FLC Chassis Number: YSCBXB15CXTCH53070 Engine Number: 85494L410M/T Estimate (£): No Reserve

Since 1921, the Bentley name has remained synonymous with prestige, performance and luxury. The “Continental” designation recalls the Bentley Continental of the post-war period. The “R” resonates to the R-Type Bentleys from the 1950s as well as the Turbo R of the 1980s. This series boasts the most powerful engine after the Continental T and has a power output of 420bhp and a maximum torque of 650 ft-lb. The car could be pushed to a staggering top speed of some 170mph.

This car has been serviced throughout its life by main dealers and specialist agents, details of which can be found in the original service booklet and wallet. However, due to the owner’s poor health, it has not been used recently. Consequently, this example does require some work before its next MoT. Specifically, the brakes require attention, the wheels need a refurbishment and the wheel arches are starting to bubble. That said, once these works are completed, this Continental R will look superb.

This beautiful two door coupé example is from 1995, though remains in all-round pleasing condition thanks in part to its low mileage of 41,298 miles at the time of cataloguing. Finished in stylish Royal Blue metallic coachwork with cream leather interior, blue piping and matching leather finished walnut dashboard, the opulent cabin is enormously comfortable and luxurious and the leather is presented in excellent condition.

This is a very good example of a much appreciated marque and model. Offered today at no reserve, this truly is an enormous amount of specialist motor car for family hatchback expenditure. Bidders should be aware that this car is supplied without an MoT and should contact the office for a full and fair synopsis of the car’s current condition.

1947 Lanchester LD10 Registration: 524 CRU Chassis Number: L62173 Engine Number: 14143 Estimate (ÂŁ): No Reserve

Had World War 2 not intervened, Lanchester would have launched the LD10 in 1940. In the event, it was postponed until 1946. Vaguely American from the front thanks to its prominent cascading front grille, the 10 was quite clever underneath where coil-sprung independent front suspension meant a compliant ride and well-behaved handling. The overhead valve 1287cc engine was lively and the pre-selector gearbox meant extra versatility. The all-steel bodies were manufactured by Briggs up to 1951 when the latter was acquired by Ford, whereupon Barker undertook the provision of coachbuilt bodies panelled in aluminium. Production ceased in 1951, by which time a little over 3,000 LD10s had been built. This charming LD10 was first registered to a Mr Andre Van Der Beek of London on 1st November 1947. It was purchased by the current owner in 1983 and has had w w w.sil ve r s to n eau c t i o ns.com

only 1 previous owner from new. Supplied with a Wilson pre-selector gearbox and delightful semaphore indicators that are in working order, this LD10 had an engine rebuild approximately 10 years ago and is in fine running order. It was re-trimmed in blue leather and is finished with twotone green bodywork. Although the paint is starting to show its age, the car is certainly useable in its current guise and has been part of the current owner’s collection for thirty years. Offered without reserve.

the correct wing panels and roof, in all a £20,000 project. The engine, gearbox and all the running gear, including the limited slip differential are all Cosworth Sierra items. It has a fully welded in roll cage, a full fire extinguisher system, intercoms, and all the correct navigational timing equipment. All the other components, fuel tank, belts and seats are all ‘in-date’. Importantly it has an MSA Log Book. Recently it competed in the Screwball Charity Rally across Europe and ran faultlessly. In all this is very competitively guided Cosworth Sierra Rally Car, finished to a great standard and surely represents great value for an iconic replica. When Stuart Turner was appointed head of Ford Motorsport in Europe in 1983 he quickly came to the conclusion that the company was no longer competitive in motorsport. Walter Hayes, having instigated the Cosworth DFV engine and Ford’s assault on Le Mans with the GT40, was still the driving force at Ford. Not surprisingly Hayes was enthusiastic about Turner’s plans to produce a turbocharged Cosworth 2.0 litre engine that would power a Ford saloon in motorsport. Cosworth already had a cylinder head design that fitted the bill which used the Ford T88 Pinto block. So they agreed to produce the 2.0litre turbo engine, but only if Ford signed-off a production run of 15,000 units. The introduction of the Sierra in 1982 required a marketing boost so it was allocated to become the platform for Ford’s new competition aspirations. It was rear wheel drive, it had good aerodynamics, albeit being prone to lift at high speeds and it was available as a three door. The new body kit and rear spoiler would sort out the lift issues. But Ford still needed to build 5000 units for homologation; this was somewhat worrying when Turner’s initial approach to the dealer network came back with an estimate that suggested they could sell around 1500 units! The success eventual sales record is of course history.

The MGC was a 2912cc, straight-6 version of the original MGB that was sold from 1967 and stayed in production through to August 1969. In the twin SU carburettor form used in the M C, the engine produced 145bhp at 5250rpm. The body shell needed considerable revision around the engine bay and to the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and the teardrop bulge that was needed to clear the carburettors. It had different brakes from the MGB, 15 inch wheels, lower geared rack and pinion and special torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers. Like the MGB, it was available as a coupĂŠ and roadster. An overdrive gearbox or three-speed automatic gearbox were also available as options. The car was capable of 120mph and a 0-60mph time of 10.0 seconds. This MGC Roadster was manufactured in 1968 and is finished in the classic colour combination of British Racing Green with black leather interior. The car has recently undergone a professional restoration and has covered a mere 11,000 miles since. At the time of cataloguing we have not seen the history file, however, this will be available for viewing at the auction. Please contact us for further details.
