Socialization Space for the Schizophrenics tries to explore the relationship between spatial configuration and social interaction. Social interaction is one of the key factors that influence human mental health. People with schizophrenia (PwS) is chosen as the one of the project’s main subject due to its significant need to interact with people in general. PwS found themselves having trouble to interact because of their difficulties to differentiate between reality and delusion. The chosen subject of this project is PwS in their residual stage, which has undergone medication stage. Located at the heart of Jakarta city, the project consists of public and private zones. The public zone, located on the ground story, aim to be open for both PwS and people in general. The challenge is to draw PwS, which have the tendency of being social phobia, to enter the public space in order to interact and socialize. The strategy is to divide the public space into three main sequences: The Gallery, The Observing Corridor, and The Socialization Space. People are moving from spaces that provides less interaction to spaces that provide maximum interaction.
The gallery, as entrance and opening sequence act as a tool for indirect communication. It is showing the artwork such as paintings and poems created by PwS. PwS will be interested to enter the gallery because they want to read and learn the story of people whose share the same thoughts with them. People in common will be drawn by the artwork. This indirect interaction will allow both PwS and people in general to understand each other without communicate verbally. Understanding between both groups is hoped to reduce the social stigma.
SITE AND CONTEXT The design process begin with research in PwS’ perception while socializing (through literature studies) and social interactions that occur in public space (through site observation).
DIAGRAM AS ANALYSIS TOOL The data is combined through analytical diagram. The diagram is used as a tool to relate between the social interactions found in people in general with PwS’ perception. The design process then explores different types of architectural elements that give different perception in determining spatial boundaries, which

THE ENTRANCE The space sequence begins with an exhibition space, presenting painting, artworks, or poem, created by People with Schizophrenia (PwS). Exhibition space which acts as facade also allows indirect, non-verbal communication between the schizophrenics and visitors. It hoped to grow a sense of understanding and closeness without having to make an eye contact through direct communication: PwS visitor would feel a sense of kinship with another PwS, meanwhile common visitors are made possible to slowly gain understanding and closeness to PwS.
THE GALLERY The gallery organized in labyrinth-alike path, with wall panels in the corners, aim to create a sense of privacy within the public space. The boundaries between public and private are formed by walls as hard boundaries and medium trees and long grass as soft boundaries. The path is designed to avoid direct communication to occur between people within the space.
THE OBSERVATION CORRIDOR The public space moving into spaces with more interaction - but mainly creating a sense of observing activities in public spaces - rather than directly joining an open conversation. Allowing people to slowly understand a strange situation one has never been involved before.
THE MULTIPURPOSE COURT The court act as an open socializing space that allow any activities to occur, just like any other public spaces. The seating around court arrange in random elevation, maintaining an appropriate distance between people while communicating. The court is also acts as a movie watching space, and could be transformed into seating with various elevation, also to maintain a good distance between crowd.

museum of ethnography Budapest, Hungary | Competition (Honorable Mention) | Liget Budapest International | 2015 | Under Studio Graha Akar Karya
Museum of Ethnography design competition, together with another five new cultural institution buildings, is a part of rehabilitation project of Budapest City Park. The objective of the design competition is to look for a design that satisfy the expectation of 21st century museum design while contributing the enrichment of the architectural heritage of Budapest. As far as dialogue with environment is concerned, it is necessary to look carefully at the existing neighborhood and surrounding condition. There area three main factors to look at: harmony with surrounding, contextuality fitness, and building mass proportion. The site is located right between the Dozsa Gyorgy Road as main road and the Budapest City Park. In the proposed design, transparent material used as the ground floor covering presents a sense of openness and strengthen the relationship between exterior and interior. The repetitive building elements of the second and third layer embodying the surrounding urban fabric, as it expresses the questionable poetic nature of the exhibition space.

Universitas Kristen Indonesia / Christian University of Indonesia aims to be an excellent education institution in Indonesia. After half decade of its establishment, UKI foundation plans to improve their teaching quality through the introduction of a new image of a modern - city campus.
The design scheme intents to create a human-based, comprehensive urban design. The first design stage to analyze the quality of existing master plan design. We conclude two main problems: the lack of clear orientation public spaces that facilitiates student to conduct a group study within campus area.
SPATIAL EXPERIENCES
a place that is integrated with public transportation facilities
a place that represent openness and transparency
a place that has a clear orientation through familiar pattern language
a restoration place that is integrated with natural elements
a place that allows the occurence of social interaction, both direct and indirectly
a place that promotes dialogue and interaction culture
Our strategy is to examine each design elements based on ten Principles of Intelligent Urbanism by Prof. Christopher Benninger. Adjusting to context and the site’s existing condition, the result leads to three main consideration in mass formation design: creating major axis, greenery as connector between buildings, and maximum walkability within the ground level.

MASS FORMATION STRATEGY
PT. Jasindo (Asuransi Jasa Indonesia) is the second largest insurance company in Indonesia and owned by the government. As a company that established in 1973, PT. Jasindo had the plan to refurbish the office building to present a well-establish yet contemporary image. Our proposal is to give another value alongside with the contemporary image itself. The idea is to part the masses vertical and horizontally based on its function. The office are divided into two types of function: The jasindo office and the rented office space. Jasindo office space are placed at the top of the mass, acts as the “head of another masses, representing a protecting value of an insurance company. Another consideration upon the mass composition is the building orientation as a passive design strategy towards a sustainable building. The service/core function is located at the west side of the building, reducing the amount of heat entering the office space.

JAKARTA VS. INFORMALITY Street vendors (or five-foot vendor / pedagang kaki lima in Indonesian) are considered squatters because they operate in illegal sites. They often get evicted by the local officer during some sterilization operation. Ironically, the existance of five-foot vendor, on the other hand, is an ease to Jakarta citizens, allowing them to get a bottle of cold drink or a piece of cigarette everywhere, anytime. This project is an outcome of an architectural workshop that was initiated by RuangRupa, a non-profit art organization. This workshop challenged participants to create a design that is related with informal professions as they are inseperable part of Jakarta’s urban feature.
