Hello, my name is Silvia Giachetti. I'm an architectural student from Rome, currently at the final year of the Masters Degree. I'm a curious person and usually I try to catch any occasion to learn something new. I believe that today's reality is governed by an infinite number of variables and if architecture was more aware of its position and meaning in it, it could be a solution because it represent a system of different disciplines. Lake House Lab. of Architectural design 1 // Prof. F. Cellini september 2010 - february 2011 This is my first academic architectural project: a simple single-family house in the Roman countryside. The lot is ideal and it is distinguishable for it being lightly sloping and for its south view on a lake. The house was designed not only as a home, including two separate studios for the members of the couple: a critic and an artist. Even though it was only a first composition exercise, a few technological aspects were analysed in depth. For example, I've studied the house shading for it being essential to enjoy open air living.

The house is perceived as an overlapping of two functional blocks, distinct but in symbiosis. From the street, the house appears to be like a sole volume, while from south (the lake side) it unveils its double nature through the shapes and the faรงade materials.

The residence is developed around the central courtyard. The wide glass surfaces facing the courtyard enable the extension of the internal space on the terrace while the brisoleil roof makes the space cosier and it frames the lake view.
Perspective section
Ostiense Library Lab. of Architectural design 2 // Prof. M. Panizza september 2011 - february 2012 collaboration: Agnese Lanciaprima This library is planned to be in the south area of the city, more precisely in between Via Ostiense and the Garbatella neighbourhood. The urban space is fragmented. There are densely populated residential areas and other sections that are mainly intended to be service areas. The railway is another disconnecting factor. The project interacts with the surrounding context thus adjusting the inharmonious proportions. The peculiarity of the structure serves the purpose of being the next landmark of the neighbourhood.
Concept
Project is inspired by the Giant's Causeway in Ireland. The differently levelled surface is placed on both the library and the external space. Here the structure forms fountains, flowerbeds and playgrounds. The connections between the building and the public space is stronger and the lot is perceived as a whole.
Plans and 3D view
Relationship with the context
The extension of the building goes through all the length of the lot and it's mainly developed on one floor. The main path goes parallel with the facade and it will be always populated thanks to the different opening hours of the stores in it. The entrances are the only openings on the front and they're pointed out by the presence of secondary paths. Recalling the concept of the coast, the edifice is introverted: air and light enter only though the internal courtyards.
The internal space
The coast's concept is applied indoors through thematic halls placed on different levels. These halls face the central open space and an internal path leads to the architectural ateliers on the top of the building.

Archeology Emergence International workshop with Iowa State Univesity february 2012 collaboration: Maria Giulia Contarino Aaron Fulton Shzamir Garcia The project required the construction of refugee housings nearby the Felice aqueduct, a site that's historically connected to spontaneous architecture. After World War 2 sheltered people occupied this area and their mark is still visible. The team's goal was to find an urban role for archeology.

Concept
The project's main purpose is to integrate the refugees in the society and the lot in the urban context. The housing plan's intent is to give a social identity to the inhabitants. The residences and the work places are connected through the aqueduct allowing a growing sense of trust among the new members of the community. We designed the houses to be built and modified by the lodger depending on their needs.

Temporary citizens Lab. of Architectural design 3 // Prof. L. Montuori march 2013 - june 2013 collaboration: Maria Giulia Contarino In Rome, during the last decades, the housing request had varied in both the number and the typoligies. Homes are a reflection of the way we live although they not always satisfy today's needs for this period is characterized by continuous mutations. The city around the project is densely inhabited and rich of public services. The project is designed to include temporary residences, working and common areas and an efficient access to the railway station nearby the lot.

The internal space
The function's distribution allows a gradual passage from public to private areas. TheCorridor ramp connects vertically all the spaces, from the commercial gallery to the upper 20 communal ms apartmentareas. The faรงade
The external faรงade is designed keeping the sun path and the views in mind. The building's faรงade changes depending on the landscape exposition. Travertino marble and glass will be predominant on the northern southern side, while the materials melt into one another in the cruces.
Offset Lab. of Technology // Prof. G. Bellingeri september 2014 - february 2015 collaboration: Alessandra Scaccia Ludovica Sodomaco Eleonora Velluto The 1960's Olympic Village was built in Rome and it was designed by some of the most important italian architects of that time. Since the technical elements chosen at the time weren't efficient, the neighbourhood is crumbling even though it is located in a prestigious area. Therefore the situation requires an energy regeneration of buildings and an urban redensification.
Concept
Thanks to the analysis made on the site and though different software we have found the main problems. The external walls don't respect the legal standards and it is necessary to resolve the thermal bridges. The projects synergically resolves the energetic and architectural issues while limiting the construction waste and using the platform frame system for the upper and lower additions.

Empty tower BIM class // Prof. S. Converso september 2014 - february 2015 This project is the BIM class' last work. The course's main subject is the creation and modification of Revit's families and their role in the project. This final work consist in retrofitting the Ligini's Tower and each student has a floor to design. Revit was the course's main software and every student had to upload his project on Glue to create an open sharing project. http://bim.rootiers.it/blog/109
Concept
The structure is composed by concrete walls distant 8m from each other. The project is design to include temporary residences and common areas and it maximizes the number of houses. In between structural walls there are two residential units that can be united to form one bigger unit. Two apartments share one 3D block which includes restrooms and kitchens. The partitions are in platform frame while the façade is made of orientable brisesoleil.

Insurance Building Lab. of Architectural design 2M // Prof. M. Furnari march 2015 - june 2015 collaboration: Valeria Micara Ludovica Sodomaco Lately the Ostiense neighbourhood has been consistently growing. This led to even more investments by private and public companies in the area. One of those is a known insurance company that decided to locate its headquarters on the main street. The head office's main features are its visibility and recognisability. Nonetheless our project wanted to provide the citizens with a public space far from traffic for the citizens.

Concept
The projects is divided into three distinct functional blocks: a travertine base, glass boxes and an over-standing volume. An atrium connects the three volumes. Over the base there's a public open space in which the different external surfaces are clearly visible.

The internal space
The operations and executive offices are located in the upper block. The first occupies two floors of the structure. Thanks to the continuity of the materials, the space appears to be fluid and there's no separation between single offices, the open and the support space. Open space

Architectural elements
The project is a detailed architectural and technical study of a previous atelier. The challenge was to keep intact the preliminary projects intentions while changing dimensions and functions.
Re-connecting the city Lab. of Urban design 3M // Prof. M. Furnari september 2015 - february 2016 collaboration: Livia Lozzi, Alessandra Scaccia Ilaria Mancini, Federica Natella Eleonora Velluto The Ostiense-Marconi area is located south west from the center of Rome. During the past centuries, the area has been a subject of transformations that left signs that are still visible nowadays. In the first decades of the past century, the area became an industrial site. From the second half of the century, the city expanded and the factories have been incorporated in the urban fabric and then abandoned. These subareas points out today's fracture in the urban fabric.

Urban analysis
These sub-areas points out today's fracture in the urban fabric. This is visible in the analysis that we made, where we underlined the margins, the main nodes, the paths, the neighborhoods and the landmarks. Overlapping these schemes, the three sub-areas obstruct the connection between the neighborhoods.

The Qgis's analysis outlined that the sub-areas's presence influenced the activities's distribution. There is a minimum number of business and residences so people don't walk through this space and there is less security. This situation facilitates the neighborhoods's introversion although these areas are densely inhabited and rich of commercial services. These parts of the city have the potential to be able to contribute to new public and private investments with a new urban structure.

Our goal is to develop a network of mainly transversal public spaces to strengthen the relations between neighbourhoods. Generating this grid of footpaths, we will provide a new structure for the city before and after the opening of the areas.

Our project is based on realizing a mesh of quality public spaces around the subareas and inside them where is possible. The path will tell the story of the subareas to the city, but will be a part of the city. In this way, the path will work as a diaphragm between the surrounding city and the real content of the inaccessible areas.

Finding identity
Starting from the effects that industry had on the zone, we outlined for each subarea a prevailing feature. These are the countryside, the industry and the city. These features are connected with an historic age: pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial. In each sub-area there will be a presence of the three features simultaneously. They are spatially developed as typologies as: parks, gardens, playgrounds, sporting areas, squares and boulevards.

Three Layers
We materially represented these three typologies with three layers: vegetation, street furniture, flooring. In particular, the layer of street furniture will be a multifunctional strip that includes all the active functions of the path, like benches, urban lightings, but also skateparks, bike rentals etc.. The vegetation is divided in grass, shrubbery and trees while the flooring gives continuity to project.
Zoom - Montemartini Area
In the Montemartini area we designed a continuous public space that wants to connect directly Via Ostiense to the river Tiber. We have divided the area in three portions: the first is an opening from via ostiense to a web of public spaces, the second is a void in front of the Montemartini museum and the third is a square and a terrace on the Tiber. This last part is connected to the Gazometer area by a path and the perspective space between the buildings of the square leads the people to the river.
