Research & Development Phase User Research & Problem Identification

Ergonomics of the cooktops can be a problem for user. The buttons should be adjusted so that the right hand and the left hand person can equally benefit from it. Too much operations can make the user confused, so simple and minimalist design approach should be taken into consider.

Idea Generation & Insights Easy on-off is an important feature while cooking. According to the dimensions of the pot, choosing the appropriate size of the heater is also significant. Time setting is a requirement while steamed cooking. Easy cleaning provides ease of use.

Initial Design Ideas

Putting spoon on the spoon holder is very handy for users. Password locking system is a good solution for safty problems.

Initial Mock Ups

Placing the pots and pans without any limits is good for families with children.

Finalization Infinity vitroceramic cooktop, grill pan and trivet are designed in a form which can reflect the harmony of the modern cooking habits and the traditional cooking techniques. Thanks to the spacious form, the vitroceramic cooktop is easy to use and suitable for big families. There are 5 sizes of heaters for different sizes of pots. The heaters on the left side can be used separetly and also together as a grilling part.

Control Interface Thanks to the simple interface design, the vitroceramic cooktop is easy to use with a single touch. The user can both set the intensity of the heaters and time by using the dial.

KAMPĂœS Sustainable Outdoor Lighting Family for METU Campus In collaboration with

Research & Development Phase Campus Research & Problem Identification

METU’s best features are its nature and roads meshed with nature. However, those roads are unable to use during night due to the lack of lighting.

Most of the lightings are dismantled or unable to use. Furthermore , there is no attempt to fix those lighting by university.

There are several examples of lightings that are relevant with the history of the campus/METU, however; most of them are irrelevant.

The most common roads , which are the ones between faculties, are not lit with enough lighting. Also, road lightings are placed in way that it bothers eye sight.

Problematic features in campus lighting: Durability

+

Effectiveness

+

Aesthesitc Value

Design Vision People do not feel safe when walking around because there is not enough lighting in campus, so the lighting units should be more effective. Lighting units should be repairable, because they are extremely vulnerable to damage and the METU administration cannot take care of the units frequently. The sculptures in METU and all the well-meshed buildings with its nature and people from various cultures are the main parts of the METU identity, so the lighting units should be in a harmony with these elements.

The Horse Chesnut Shells - Protection The Leaves - Flow

The Rowanberries - Harmony

Biomimicry Sketch Analysis

Horse chestnuts are encased in a light green spine-covered coating that divides into three parts and these three parts drop away prior to the nut dropping from the tree.

Clovers, which are usually with three leaves, are ofen found together in nature. This situation gives them a sense of belonging to a huge family.

The leaves of the pine protect the pinecones and the pinecons protect the seeds by creating a double layered protection.

The snail shell is the most increadible example of the golden ration in the nature. The continuity of the lines and the harmony of the colorscan be clearly observed.

Finalization Assembly Seating Unit

1

2 The profiles that will carry the top and the bottom of the seat are mounted on the subway.

The profile on which the separator will be mounted, is welded to the main skatelon.

3

The back part of the seat is mounted on the top profile thanks to the brackets embeded in the FRP.

The bottom part of the seating unit is screwed to the profile by the brackets embeded in the FRP.

LED can be used as an additional joining part.

Finally, the acrylic panel is mounted on metal profile and subway.

The separators are joining together by snap fit.

Usage & Details Personal space violation is prevented by the separators between the seat pairs so, a more comfortable subway experience is provided. The poles are placed in front of the seating instead of in front of the doors to prevent the crowd. There are ergonomically designed, durable handles which help the passenger travel safely. There are usb ports where the young people can charge their phones while watching videos on the wall-mounted screens. It also encourages people to travel on foot which provides an opportunity to elderly and disabled people while finding a place to sit.

Choise of Material:

Fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) Components: Fiberglass reinforcements Resin Additives & Fillers Advantages: Strong & lightweight Durable Low cost structure

Choise of Color Pallet: Light tint of orange and darker blue

Advantages: Complementary colors are pairs of colors which, when combined, cancel each other out. These create a high contrast, so I used them to stand out the interior design of the subway and to give it a more dynamic and modern look. I also used some grey and its tones to balance the color pallet.

NEON School Door Handles and Accessories Product Family: Co-designing with Children In collaboration with

Research & Development Phase User Research & Problem Identification School door handle and accessories product family development was a scenario-based project for primary schools. The scenario involved small groups of primary school children (6 to 10 years old) using the door handle and accessories when entering and leaving the classroom. Students in AyĹ&#x;e Abla College was observed at the workshop.

Design Vision School door handle and accessories should; ensure safety, encourage creativity, learning & play, support well-being and healthy psychological & cognitive development, be easy to recognise for the children.

Initial Design Ideas

The door stoppers decorated with different animal motifs would prevent the hazards that might be caused by doors. They would help children to notice their classes.

A puzzle that the teachers photo on it would be good for developing motor skills of the children. It makes easier to find the class for the students

The door decoration would show the subject of the lesson to the children. Teachers would hang these name tags on the plate when they enter the classroom.

Colorful road lines would help children to find their classes. A “Find Your Way puzzle would develop the finding solution skills of the kids.

Finalization Mock-Ups The final presentation model of the door handle with clay & cardboard. For accessories (door stopper and the identifier) cardboard was used.

Usage & Details

The door handle’s form enables easy grap.

Door handles are placed on a height that children can easily reach.

If the door stoppers are not used, the teachers can place them on the wall with a screw that is too high for the children to be able .

The bending form of the door handle prevents the hazards that may occur. The door stoppers can prevent the hazards that can occur during the breaks.

With the help of the identifiers that has the teachers photo and class name on it, the children won’t have difficulty when finding their classes. They are very easy to clean and maintain.
