I am thrilled to be able to welcome you to our launch issue of Kiss the Bride, proudly introducing Tees Valley and North Yorkshire’s very own bridal magazine dedicated to engaged couples. A huge thank you, for everyone that has helped and contributed and for everyone reading this now. What a 12 months roller coaster ride this has been, we welcomed our beautiful baby Willow Ann into the world on August 16th 2011 and it was not long before this, that I set out to embark on this fabulous crazy journey of putting this magazine together. I have met some amazing people along the way and I feel truly inspired by the wealth of talent seen in our local businesses that the magazine was fate waiting to happen. A fabulous family for support, genuine belief and many sleepless nights, we finally made it. Without further ado, I would like to introduce the KTB team that is Assistant Editor Kim West and our lovely Kathryn Fleetham from Opulence Wedding Planning. I hope you enjoy and look forward to the next issue in January.

Photographs: The Studio by Jaymz

In the Hot Seat Interview by Sarah Tate
James from The studio by Jaymz
It’s the thick of the wedding season and I manage to grab some precious time from one very busy wedding photographer. James Hutchins is at his studio on Woodland Road, Darlington and has already put a couple of hours work in before we meet. The studio is filled with fabulous portraits and as I look around its obvious that he has a real flair for capturing the emotion of the moment. I have no personal connection to the people in these pictures but I feel drawn in and want to know more. James isn’t your average wedding photographer, this guy has a serious passion for photography starting from a very young age, when he won his first competition at 13 with his personal all time favourite photograph of the Red Arrows, doing their synchro split. James adds that “I’ve tried replicating this 20-30 times and have never got close, everything just came together perfectly for that one shot”. During our chat he tells me that he “likes to keep things varied” and is often on training courses picking up lots of tips. His repertoire of work
6
covering an incredible genre from fashion photography, sports events and live music events is what he likes. James explains that the range of events he covers has allowed him to perfect skills that can be brought into wedding photography, enabling him to create those fun one off shots that are unique but look completely natural. If you hadn’t been a wedding photographer what would you be doing?
What would be on your Xmas list? Flight on Virgin Galactic What kind of music are you into? Heavy metal, Foo Fighters Do you have a particular make of equipment you use? Canon Apart from your camera what else could you not do without?
Astronaut – “I won a competition and got the chance to spend 3 weeks training with astronauts from NASA”
Ipod
Favourite Wedding Location?
Who would you be stoked about to photograph you?
“Middleton Lodge” – “Beautiful grounds and the personal service” How do you find the right wedding photographer? “Someone you get along with is important.” James goes on to add “With the availability of good cameras on the market it’s not just about turning up on the day there is so much going on the photographer has to be able to deal with this to get the job done well”

Joanne Kay Bridal Boutique
Bridal News
Interview by Sarah Tate
Joanne Kay Bridal Boutique fabulously opened their doors at the beginning of August, playing host to a superb portfolio of bridal designers incorporating both British and international brands. Exclusive to this boutique is British designer Sassi Holford with her collection of elegant and highly sought after classic gowns, and I was very lucky to be able to see these exquisite gowns up close. Joanne showed me around the brand new boutique and as we chatted and browsed the collections I couldn’t help be a little bit awestruck by the Sassi Holford gowns. To complement this leading designer Joanne Kay are
also stockists for Enzoani, Agnes and another highly regarded British designer Mark Lesley along with Dessy bridesmaids. Joanne and Kay co-owners of the new boutique started careers in completely different places but through friendship and a shared passion for bridal they decided a year a go to open the new boutique. It seemed fate had a helping hand as the girls were enjoying a coffee, when they happened upon suitable premises, and it so transpired the landlord was the person that greeted them at their initial enquiry.
This beautiful boutique is located on the high street in Stokesley and the designs in store include a variety of styles and price ranges. It is preferable to make an appointment for viewing, as the whole store is given over to your personal experience, so that you are free to try on and discuss details in complete privacy. Joanne and Kay both have very strong customer service backgrounds, and were very keen to impress how much the idea of giving each individual bride that all important personal attention is a key element of this business. Kiss the Bride magazine wishes these two lovely ladies every success x

and make-up
Lisa Devanny MUA which should be MUAE (Makeup Artist Extrordinaire), worked to the brief given by Keith Moss to create the look for our models; smokey eyes, nude lips with a hint of pink and contoured cheeks.
With Lisa Devanny
Lisa used MAC eye make-up in carbon and Chanel being Lisa’s make-up of choice on the skin. It is easy to see why she is in demand from professional clients for their commercial photo-shoots, she works to her brief and transforms the early morning faces of these girls in to models ready for the camera. It was something I quickly learned from the Keith Moss team that this was another vital element to the shoot. In fact I had a list of do’s and don’t for our models that any aspiring model would be wise to learn, your body and face are your product and you must look after these. Keith emphasised how important it was that the models were hydrated and nourished and had warm clothing, no straps pinching the skin, the fore thought was very detailed.
KISS THE BRIDE
It is hard to believe that this professional Make-up artist has only been on the scene a relatively short time having graduated a year a go from the London School of make-up following a career change. Lisa based in Yarm works with clients all over the North East on fashion shoots, runway and commercials and is also specialising in Bridal/ wedding make-up. It is clear by the results from our photoshoot that Lisa knows exactly how to get you ready for the camera, which is crucial for those all important wedding snaps. Lisa: 07984 674224
Lisa’s tips for Luscious Lips
1
Use a dry toothbrush to exfoliate the lips and apply a lip balm treatment, I use Carmex.
2
Conceal around the edge of the lips to create a blank canvas and use a nice lip liner to create the outline, apply lipstick with a brush.
3
Using a lipstick brush is important as it spreads the pigments evenly across the lips.

Scissor Sisters: Nancy Darcy Interview by Kim West
After working with the team as our hair stylist on our fabulous launch edition shoot, I met Christina from Nancy Darcy Salon, Skelton, to discuss their Bridal Hair services, the shoot, and current trends. “Lyndsey is our Bridal Specialist. We work together as a team; she concentrates on the Brides whereas I tend to look after the bridesmaids, and we build the experience for the whole party together. Hayley-Jayne is our Extension Specialist, Karen our colour degree specialist; and myself as Hair Technician, with Becky as our MD. There has been a steady rise in the Vintage look; I would say it is at its peak now. We are starting to see stronger looks coming through; more experimental hair, which we
are also seeing reflected in gowns; hair is another way for brides to showcase their personality. Beautiful hair is always going to be popular; groomed, elegant and stylish. Sharp cuts in general have gone out, the blow dry is back in; there is a lot more focus on condition. We offer Home Care and After Hair also, great for Honeymoons. Styles soften off generally through summer, there is more of a bo-ho, tousled look. Finishes are softer and less “pristine”, but still beautiful. Plaits are very popular, they come back every summer, with a bit of a twist every year.
... Mood Boards ...
For the Kiss The Bride shoot, We did put quite a bit of preparation in, putting mood boards together and
focusing on shape. We were able to be so much more creative, things were so quickly changeable, using knitting needles and hair pieces; all the tricks of the trade! I think what sets us apart from other salons is the effort we put in from the very start, in the consultation period. The worst thing for a Bride on her wedding day is not to look like herself. Without the detail we go into, we wouldn’t get to know her. Lyndsey our Bridal Specialist is an amazing people person, so relaxed with Brides on a morning with such a calming influence, which people always comment on! We are very creative as well; we like to try anything to expand our experience and our name. We really care, if we’ve styled a bride, we’ll be thinking about her all day!” Christina x
“Communication is the key to perfect hair...” At ND, we stand strong by our salon philosophy, so it makes sense to carry this through into our specialist areas, including weddings. We are proud to boast one of the most dedicated wedding teams in the North East:
Gilpin makes “Getting ready” for your big day stress-free • Lyndsey and enjoyable with her naturally settling and warm persona.
your personal wedding planner, Christina May will take control • As of all the “behind the scenes” on the lead up to your wedding day
• Hayley Jayne as creative hair and hair volume/extension senior specialist
On the run up to your wedding, the team will work closely with you in a unique way, to provide the ultimate service and outcome for your big day.

All for Love
We asked local florist Linda Davey who runs Flowermaiden in Guisborough to provide the flowers for the Kiss the Bride photoshoot. The brief was masses of flowers to add depth and colour to the dreamy romantic set we were trying to create.
We weren’t particularly looking for formal arrangements but would use them grouped together to create impact. Linda recommended using, pink hydrangeas, roses and Sarah Bernhardt peonies for their blousy effect, she also suggested adding stately delphiniums to give height and drama.
The roses we used were called ‘Illusion’ which come in lots of sherbet hues and tend to be tinged with shades of pink that have a vintage look, these were grouped with bunches of gypsophila to produce a dreamy and romantic scene. We also used a rose called ‘All for love’ a beautiful raspberry pink rose, which had a huge flower head. Linda arranged these on a tall candleabra, to provide a focal point for the ‘Marie-Antoinette table scene.

Expert Advice 1. To avoid disappointment book your florist as early as possible, even if you haven’t decided on colours or the style of your wedding bouquet. 2. Tell your florist what budget you have and they can advise what you can expect to achieve. 3. It is important that the Florist knows the venue so that they know the space that they will be working with. 4. Consider the colours and theme of the wedding, your florists have an expert eye for what works well together, they will take into consideration the shape of your dress and other factors to give you the best advice.

We wanted beautifully feminine gowns and were thinking of acres of soft tulle, sparkle and beautiful lace to play out the dreamy images we wanted to create. Laura showed us the collection of Sottero and Midgely gowns she now stocks which were perfect. We chose ‘Topaz’ a fashion forward gown with a beautiful peek a boo bodice adorned with bead encrusted lace appliqué. For Ultra feminine sweetness we have ‘Isabella’ a beautiful soft flowing tulle and embellished lace ball gown, and ‘Chelsa’ a classic lace silhouette with a vintage inspired capelet giving this timeless couture panache. A few last minute changes brought in a super cute lace Eternity dress, which Laura calls ‘daisy’ modelled to perfection by Beth Dooley. Last but not least our Tyne Tees model Kieron wore a classic black tuxedo to complement his leading ladies, provided by Handsome Harry within Truly Beautiful run by Laura’s partner Richie Mitchell. Wedding Venue
Laskill Country House A Hidden Gem in North Yorkshire A treasure to share, 6 miles north of Helmsley, set in the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park lies ‘Laskill Country House’ a family run business owned by Mandy Sowray and also very unique wedding venue perfectly suited for intimate weddings. ‘Laskill Grange’ run by mum Sue sits alongside and offers seven luxury self-catering cottages and farmhouse bed and breakfast, and anyone wanting to extend their wedding with family and guests will find this the perfect solution. The photoshoot for the magazine was staged at Laskill Country House and after taking over the property for the day I return to have a catch up and thank Mandy; greeted by the smell of fresh coffee and home baked fruit cake (any time of day cake). We have a rapid catch up on events, as Laskill have just hosted an Egyptian wedding for 200, its clear to see there is still a huge amount of energy in the air and I get an insight into some peculiar customs, I wish I had been a fly on the wall at that wedding. Mandy says “I did think I had bitten off more than I can chew here – with the couple based in Singapore, an Egyptian groom and torrential rain forecast”. A potential logistical nightmare, 200 guests in a marquee in the middle of a field, but even the staff enjoyed learning some Egyptian culture. I am pleased to say a wonderful day was had by all. How long have you been doing weddings now at Laskill? 4 years. Not actually my idea. A couple came along, fell in love with the place and persuaded me to apply for the licence so that they could hold their ceremony here.
24
Any Favourites? I think my favourite was a couple who had a relatively small wedding. The bride was 63 and never been married before, the groom was a similar age and they were so thrilled to have found each other. There excitement was infectious and their anticipation very endearing. During the ceremony they read a poem to each other which not only reduced me to tears but the registrar as well. Its pretty full on living and working in the house, what do you do to relax? Relax – what’s that??!!!!! The occasions when I have the house to myself to enjoy with my family, I cherish. All locally sourced produce? We always source as much produce as we can locally. Not only is it good to build sound working relationships with other local businesses but is also very rewarding to be able to talk to people about where, what they are eating came from and better still to serve home reared food.
What could you not live without? The Kettle. Weddings are like running a marathon and without numerous caffeine fixes you could easily run out of steam Contact: Mandy 01439 798265 www.laskillcountryhouse.co.uk

The reception was at the Mallyan Spout Hotel where Tom worked in his youth. All of the staff had fond memories of him. Table names were taken from prestige potteries as a nod to Sarah’s Staffordshire roots (e.g Wedgewood, Minton, Royal Doulton and Spode). The evening reception was held at the Village Hall which was decorated with bunting and lollipop trees, all hand made by Sarah’s Mum to add that personal touch. Entertainment included a local ceilidh band, to lead the dancing, and a hog roast. The couple’s first dance song was ‘Can’t help falling in love with you’ by Elvis Presley. The couple have a baby daughter Madeleine aged 10 months who behaved impeccably during the service and looked beautiful in her lemon and white bridesmaid dress. Although she was not too keen on the hair band, it did stay on for some of the photographs.
A Traditional
Village Wedding in Heartbeat Country
The ceremony was held in St Mary’s Church, Goathland. A family friend played the church organ and duties were shared between the local vicar and Tom’s father (a retired vicar). Tom’s father actually married them in a very touching service.

Kim gets the inside story from beautiful bride and newlywed Mrs Sarah Keating. Can you tell us about your engagement? Tom and I met whilst doing our PGCE (primary teaching qualification) at the University of Cambridge. Tom got down on one knee at Wandlebury Park in Cambridge along the Roman Road. I knew he had the ring in his pocket before he asked me! What are your defining memories of the day? I was surprised by how calm I felt. The service started at 12 noon and I wasn’t in my dress until about 11.30!! I was feeding my daughter lamb and minted peas at about 11.15! My mum ordered some champagne for us whilst we were getting ready which was lovely. My mum was an absolute star planning and preparing the day and then did a fantastic job of looking after Maddie on the day. My daughter Maddie and my now sister in law Ruth Keating were wonderful bridesmaids. I think one of the most unexpected moments was when one of the three best men, Richard Gillespe, fainted during the service!!
KISS THE BRIDE
Luckily 2 doctors who were part of the congregation rushed to help and it wasn’t too long until he was back in the line of best men! My dad, Charles Jones, did a brilliant speech which I will remember forever. It was funny, heart warming and just lovely. Obviously becoming Tom’s wife was a HUGE moment. I felt very lucky and incredibly happy all day long and having such lovely family and friends around us was perfect. Any little anecdotes or amusing stories from the day? See above-Richard Gillespe! Oh and as my Dad and I were walking towards the church just before 12 noon, we suddenly saw 7 or 8 kilted scotts running towards us shouting
“Sorry we’re late, so sorry!”. Some of Tom’s uni friends making their fashionably late entrance! The queen was at our wedding too, well, not quite the real lady but a life sized cardboard cut out who joined in the disco and all the wedding day antics! fitting as it was the jubilee weekend. And finally, can you summaries your wedding day in ten words or less? The most perfect day surrounded by wonderful family and friends.

These featured images take on one of the hot trends for 2013 using baby blues and natural tones and were taken by Claire at Burns Rowatt Photography at the Jersey Farm Barnard Castle, to showcase the talents of a group of like minded wedding suppliers who share a common passion for creativity, and many have changed their hobbies into businesses to enable them to follow their creative dreams.
You may be mistaken for thinking that these luscious cupcakes are ready for eating but they are in fact couture silk soaps, made from natural ingredients by Deborah from Peculiar People. “Soap is to the body what laughter is to the soul” says Deborah “I started making soap because I wanted a new hobby. Things started innocently enough but before long I had cupboards full of stunning fragrances and exotic ingredients.
Individuality, creativity and personality are what couple are looking for.
34
There are only so many baths you can take in a day and only so much soap you can personally use, so I started giving away soaps, scrubs and lotions to my family and friends and not long after, people asked if I would make them for weddings, baby showers and birthdays. I find it so satisfying making them from scratch and coming up with unique formulations and product ideas for my clients. What’s in favour? Deborah’s soaps make great favours and the tradition of favours goes back a long way. The first wedding favours were known as ‘bonbonniere’, representing a symbol of good luck, they were given as glamorous gifts to the weddings guests of French Aristocrats to show off their wealth. If you want to learn more, then Mandy from Bonbonniere and Wells can help you out. Mandy set up her business creating bespoke favours when she spotted a gap in the market when her brother was getting married. Mandy explains “With the bride’s original heritage being Thai, they wanted something that married (excuse the pun!) their two cultures. Having searched with no luck I got my creative thinking cap on and came up with the idea of retro
English sweets inside a traditional sticky rice basket, all decorated to co-ordinate with their theme of their special day, I received lots of great feedback from the wedding guests and the idea for my business was born. Like Mandy, Alli from Ruby Shoes also set up her stationery business after helping out family and friends on their big day. Alli told us “I have always had a love of everything crafty and homemade and spent many years searching out special papers, delicious ribbons and learning new crafty techniques, so when my sister got married last year I jumped at the chance to design her stationery and help style the wedding day. I loved the idea of making something I love doing as a hobby into a business so I took the plunge and set up Ruby Shoes Wedding earlier this year and haven’t looked back since. As my designs are all bespoke, couples can have exactly what they want for their big day, whatever their style and see their ideas brought to life. Vintage or va va vroom? Whatever your style, there are suppliers out there who can help create your wedding dreams. If it’s a vintage twist you are looking for then vintage crockery is always a big style statement. Wendy combined her

two passions of home baking and collecting vintage and retro home wares to create her company, Alice’s Vintage Kitchen. “After many year’s working as a trainer for a national charity, I took the plunge and started the business and I love the idea of giving weddings and parties some nostalgic style from china tea sets through to delicious authentic themed menus”. Wendy specialises in giving the personal touch, which is reminiscent of the service offered by our suppliers featured here and that’s exactly what today’s couples are looking for. Whether it’s more traditional or a bit of va va vroom you want then you can hire a wealth of props and paraphernalia from Karen at Definitions Event Solutions. From birdcages and feathers to chair covers and sashes in over 100 colours, Karen can help you create the wow factor for you and your guests. Having worked in the NHS for most of her career, the organisation was down sizing so Karen found herself facing a career choice. Karen says: Being a ‘glass half full’ sort of girl I decided to grab the opportunity of voluntary redundancy to help me dust off my creative side and move forward on my already established business plan. I can offer couples a range of centrepieces to hire or if they are looking for something extraordinary I work with them to help create exactly what they want.

Personal touches make the day special Have your cake and eat it! Cakes are not just for eating but are a real fashion statement, particularly wedding cakes. It is hard to believe that the one featured here by Prettyliciouz is not a result of many years of icing expertise but comes from Mother and daughter, Angie and Maxine, bringing together Angie’s lifelong love of baking and Maxine’s creative flair to realise their skills and launch Prettyliciouz just over a year ago. Maxine says “The response from friends and family was
amazing and what initially started as a hobby soon developed into a business with more and more requests for cakes. Our portfolio quickly grew from dragons and dogs to intricately iced wedding cakes of all designs. Each cake is designed especially for every couple so they can have something individual and personal to them and their big day. As the stationery, cakes, favours and styling are becoming more and more design led, the same is true for the florals. Being the owner of the longest established florist shop in Middlesbrough, Karen from Butterflies has seen trends change over the years. Karen says “I find that Brides now are looking for something different and individual, couples don’t just want bouquets and arrangements to match a particular colour scheme; they want their flowers to have a certain style or design. Vintage and country garden are very in vogue at the moment but trends change all of the time and this blue and natural trend for 2013 looks really striking. I love getting to know the people and their occasion so I can create fitting floral arrangements”. Karen has a
real passion for everything floral and her daughter Jennifer has followed in her mums creative footsteps, so like Maxine and Angie, their business is very family orientated. And when the day is done... Wedding memories are as precious as the day itself, so after your vows are exchanged, the cake is cut and the dancing is over, your photographs will tell the story of your day for years to come. Claire from Burns Rowatt Photography believes in capturing the heart of your day. “I would describe my style as fresh and romantic” says Claire. “I believe in capturing the emotion of the occasion and recording the little details. A wedding is all about the love and bond between two people, their friends and families and I love being able to create lasting memories that will be treasured.

Wedding Planning
Opulent Weddings Beautiful brides on a budget! Our very own Kathryn Fleetham from Opulence Wedding Planning offers some professional advice that could save you some money. Summer Weddings are often at the forefront of any prospective Bride and Groom’s mind when picking a date. But consider a Wedding “Off Season”; November, January and February offer the opportunity for a Winter Wonderland themed wedding, and March leading into Spring is also likely to come with a reduced Venue Hire fee. Similarly, consider getting married on any other day than the weekend; Thursdays are the new Saturday! Fresh flowers really make a statement at weddings but equally if you don’t have the cash to splash there are alternatives that you can discuss with your florist. I recommend incorporating silk flowers within your bouquet, or non-floral aspects such as greenery, ribbon; anything goes. This also applies to your table centrepieces and room decorations. Church candles in differing heights and sizes, grouped together, can make dramatic table centre pieces and add instant ambience. Floating candles in water can also look beautiful and delicate.
KISS THE BRIDE
Establishing a budget early on gives you an important framework for organising your event, its often the little expenses which go overlooked that mount up and cause a financial impact. Consider also that the latest DIY trends are not always going to save you money, so do your homework.
Thursday’s are the new Saturday Take inspiration from the 1940’s. For a cake to wow every guest, order a one or two tier cake, then fake the rest! Cover false cake shapes in icing and decoration, and use them at the top of your cake for weight distribution. False tiers can add height and drama, at half of the price! Your guests will never know…

If you are short of time, in a demanding job or generally not bursting with ideas, hiring a Wedding Planner is a wise investment. Taking away the stress, couples can hire a planner for just the day itself, allowing them to relax with their arrangements in safe hands.

Interview by Kim West
Marjorie and Harry Challoner were married in 1951 at North Ormesby Parish Church. Marjorie was 18 and Harry was 24. They had a double wedding with Marjorie’s sister Irene, and her fiancé Herbert. Describe your engagement? We were at a dance at Middlesbrough Town Hall, Harry said “If you wait for a little while I’ll do some overtime work and buy you a ring”. I thought “Oh gosh, a ring!”. I’d never had a ring, we were so poor; well, everybody was poor in those days. I made a cake after, he asked his mum and dad down to my house. It was nice, we just had a little tea party, just the relations, and my mum and dad. Did you and Harry live together at the time of the wedding? Oh no no no, it was never done! You were ashamed if you lived together, it was taboo!. We had no money after we married, we had to live with my mum and dad! Were Registry Office Weddings commonplace n the early 1950’s? There were Registry Offices, they’d been there for years. My sister was going to get married, and when
40
she knew we’d fallen in love, she suggested a double marriage, it would have been much cheaper. But those days were so different, the people were so different. They have such a lovely life now, but we struggled, we did struggle! How much planning and preparation was put in for the Wedding? My sister and I just organised it ourselves. I didn’t have too much of a say, my sister was a bit older, so she organised it, but it was lovely, I did appreciate it. My husband did a lot of preparing as well. How many people attended your wedding, and did you have a reception? I would say we had about forty there, it was very small, with a nice spread, finishing about five o’clock. We had very close
Marjorie & Harry Challoner - 1951
friends and relations; Aunties and Uncles. Everybody enjoyed it!. The lady who baked the cake, she was a distant relation to my sisters husband, she was a beautiful baker, three tiers it was. At the end we thought we’d have loads left, but the lady who made them put them in a pram and took them all with her! We were only young, we didn’t want to say anything! We laughed about it over the years! Tell me about your Wedding Dresses? My sister bought hers from Binns (now House of Fraser). She worked there, she was Head Accountant and had a really good job. I got mine in a sale, but my friend had a lovely piece of net. She was a seamstress, and added it to my dress. I felt like a million dollars! And of course we had pearls. I worked in millinery in a shop called Wrights of Sussex, and the buyer there sent for the veils, beautiful they were, actually beautiful. They were trailed right over our dresses! A week after I’d married a lady came and asked to buy my veil, so I sold it, we needed the money!
Next Issue: Jill and Les Page, married 1977
And what did the Grooms and Groomsmen wear? The grooms didn’t own suits, so they went to the shop and bought them. They had Best Men, my husbands was his best friend. They all looked very nice, they all wore flowers.
“We had no money after we married, we had to live with my mum and dad!”
In the early 1950’s, did you have Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue? Yes that’s an old tradition. My Mam gave me the “something old”, my pearls. I didn’t have a garter, but we did wear stockings and suspenders in those days! Did you go on Honeymoon? Oh no, we couldn’t even go for a drink! It was such a long time ago and things were so different. When I look at the things my daughter Pat, and my granddaughter Louise have. I’m so proud. I don’t think I’ve ever told them these things!
Did people give Gifts in those days? Yes, thinking about it now, we got very little. We had a rich Uncle; well, we thought he was rich! He bought us some sheets, we thought they were wonderful. My husband’s best man bought us one towel, as he didn’t have any money. One towel, which was lovely, we were so grateful. It sounds crazy doesn’t it! But it meant a lot to me at the time. What is your strongest memory of the day? I remember at the very end of the service where you have to say “According to Gods Holy audience”. I said it so quiet, I was shaking in my legs, all my nerves seemed to go, I was terrified. North Ormseby Market was on, and once word was out that there was a double wedding, all these people were waiting for us! We didn’t know half of them. But it made our wedding. But my main memory was when my Dad got hold of the two girls and walked us down the aisle. Finally Marjorie, what is the secret to a happy marriage? I have always looked after the man; is quite old fashioned, but remember I was quite modern, I worked! But in those days a woman cooked, washed, ironed, and looked after her man. And of course, I was a raven in bed!

Behind the Scenes Having asked Solo Hair & beauty from Guisborough to style models for my bridal shows on several occasions. I felt confident that giving them a Vintage theme for the bridal show would be no problem.
Leslie who works with daughter Steph at this family owned business Church Square, Guisborough have been styling bridal hair for many years, and we met up to discuss possible styles and looks. Leslie had already researched the various era’s and suggested going with an Audrey Hepburn 60’s inspired up do for our first model Kim and a half up half down 40’s inspired look for model Beth.

Lisa Devanny – Make up Artist continued with a Peaches and Cream complexion and contoured on eye in brown. Lisa incorporated a fifties style flick on the eye using a gel eyeliner by MAC and finished it off with 3 individual lashes on the end to accentuate the flick. Dusty Pink blusher was applied to cheeks and a beauty spot added, and to finish the look Lisa applied Lipliner – Cherry and a matt lipstick, Ruby Woo both by MAC.
