Under vehicle inspection is an essential component of any perimeter security operation. Perimeter security systems which do not include under vehicle inspection as a part of the process are incomplete. Many checkpoints and security gates still use the traditional mirror or camera on a pole and that is a mistake: those devices cannot see the important central region of the underside which intelligence sources advise is used to import treats – people, weapons, drugs etc – into secure or Under Vehicle Inspection systems (UVIS) which image the whole of the underside provide operators with better information. UVISs which display a single searchable undercarriage image are much more effective than those which produce live image streams. VISOR is the optimum and cost effective UVIS. There is no compromise on performance with features including: • • • • • • • • • • •

About 1 second after a vehicle has passed over the Camera Unit, VISOR’s proprietary software stitches the images from each camera into a single composite of the underside- keeping all of the image data. The operator is presented with high quality colour images of the complete underside to inspect. Cars, trucks, buses, vans, trains; in fact, all wheeled vehicles can be scanned by VISOR.

Single, high quality colour images Multiple cameras ensure high performance Frame by frame searchability Full archive and retrieval of all records Fast operation Free flow and single vehicle modes Easy to use user interface Easy to deploy and use Robust, all weather construction Portable and static versions Optional 24 vdc operation

The optimum and cost effective solution is the VISOR multi-camera Under Vehicle Inspection system (UVIS). The portable VISOR shown is as simple as it looks. There are only these items – the Camera Unit, the Control Unit in its moulded plastic case and the interconnecting cable. The Camera Unit is deployed in the roadway such that the wheels of the vehicle pass to each side of it; the Control Unit is positioned somewhere convenient the interconnecting cable is connected at both ends, power is applied and the VISOR system is ready to go.

VISOR’s high quality digital colour cameras ensure that the composite underside image is clear and detailed. Because we use several cameras, and the cameras are angled, operators can “see around” objects to find threat items. Difficult to see objects become visible by using the image interrogation tools integrated into VISOR.

VISOR - R

VISOR - C

VISOR - P

There are 4 VISOR models: • • • •

VISOR-P for temporary checkpoints. VISOR-P can be transported in the trunk of a car and deployed in a few minutes by 1 person – they really are portable. VISOR-S for permanent UVIS checkpoints. The Camera Unit is fixed to the road surface so there is no requirement to provide expensive excavations or drains. VISOR-C for locations where the traffic comprises light vehicles such as cars and vans. VISOR-C is available for temporary or permanent checkpoints VISOR-R systems to inspect the undersides of trains. VISOR-R is available for portable and static installations.

All VISOR systems are robust enough to be driven over by a truck.

VISOR’s proprietary software stitches the images from each camera into a single composite of the underside – about 1 second - keeping all of the image data.

The intuitive user interface allows operators to: • • • • • • •

Mark threat / suspect items Review each underside in detail. Zoom into any part of the image – without loss of image quality Compare two images of the same vehicle Check vehicle registration Archive and retrieve records Incorporate “vehicles of interest” lists into the database.

5 August 2015 Hunter Global Tracking Ltd introduces the cable-free Bulldog Mini, a new compact GPS + Cell-ID tracker giving up to 1000 positions per battery life/cycle with primary batteries changeable by the user or rechargeable on an induction plate. The Bulldog Mini can track objects for 2-3 years at 1 position per day or for several months in case of multiple positions (e.g. transmitting 4 positions per day for 7 months). It can also monitor temperatures. The Bulldog Mini comes in a reinforced waterproof (IP68) box measuring 11 x 7 x 2 cms and only weighs 150g (with battery). It can be attached to any mobile asset with magnets (special magnet plate on option), screws, Velcro or even cable-ties. It is the little brother of the Bulldog, only 3 times smaller but similarly cable-free, versatile and equally robust, reliable and powerful. The Bulldog Mini is the ideal compact tracker for outside use; the perfect small anti-theft cable-free device which can also easily be concealed. It is designed for tracking/monitoring containers, IBCs, ULDs, pallets, crates, boxes and a host of other mobile assets such as vehicles (trucks, vans, cars, trailers, swapbodies, construction and agricultural plant). Cost-wise it is also ground-breaking: the unit itself only costs €199. By opting for HGT’s 24-month telecom/ management platform package (for €264) that provides 2 years’ worth of world SIM card, 2 MB of data transmission per month per device & the use of the management platform, the daily tracking cost would be only € 0.63 for those initial 2 years ……. and even less for any further years’ use! The Bulldog Mini completes HGT’s new range of state-of-the-art intelligent tracking units for the transport industry and other mobile assets, comprising solar or long-life battery-powered units, some with multiple sensor and interface capacities, a comprehensive management & communications platform, all remotely customisable and easily installed by the user. Customers can ascertain the exact whereabouts of their assets, with past history in tables and maps and a dashboard giving the status of the different parameters chosen as well as geo-fencing and other monitoring options. They can remotely set their own parameters from any Internet access point and see the results on a smart phone (frequency of geo-localisation, usual tracking data and geo-fencing functions as well as results of sensor/interface readings and eventual alerts). HGT customers can choose from a complete range of cable-free tracking units according to their needs: either solar-powered, primary or rechargeable battery-powered (even by induction), depending on the length of the autonomy required; water- or weather-proof; for use outside or inside the asset; with extra technical options managed by the shipper: multi-sensor capacity (even from inside the container/truck) including temperature, humidity, shock, light, door locking/intrusion alerts, etc. as well as interfaces with reefers, wagon coupling shock measurement. All HGT’s hardware and the software + telecoms platform are designed and made in Europe, sold, guaranteed and supported by Hunter Global Tracking Ltd, incorporated in Switzerland.

The winners of the Tracker Solutions Award for 2014/15 have just released a new pair of tracking devices onto the market. These devices are sure to be the next game changers in tracking. Boasting unbelievable battery power and signal strength for such small, ultra compact weatherproof devices. The BULLDOG MINI is as tough as it sounds: a small asset tracker which is ideal for shipment, inventory and anti-theft tracking by GPS and Cell-ID. Due to its small size (11 x 7 x 2 cms), it fits into (or/on) all kinds of objects or shipments (e.g. IBCs, ULDs, pallets, boxes etc.). With one set of consumer batteries (changed by user) it transmits approx. 1000 positions. By this it can tracks objects for 2-3 years with one position per day or several months with multiple positions per day. Benefits are: an affordable price, built-in temperature and motion sensors and a water-resistant case (IP68). There is also a rechargeable version that is simply placed on an induction pad; this is a quick charge and ideal for on-the-go.

Hunter Global Tracking also just successfully completed an amazing tracking project from Germany to Cartagena. The project was to test the sensors and the battery power of the RIDGEBACK device sending a location message every 2 hours and temperature + humidity sensor messages in between each location message. The device was non stop for nearly 2 months, measuring a constant temp at -20 to -25 degrees. It also had alerts set up for door opening and for intrusion. This was a very sensitive test as Columbia can offer it’s own challenges to security and the shipper/ cargo holder.

Multimodal trip for a cable-free autonomous Ridgeback Sensor: Monitoring a reefer containing hazardous chemicals requiring inside temperature readings every 2 hours (limit -15째C) Journey: 2 February to 9 March 2015 between Central Germany and Colombia.

Detailed approach to Cartagena

Geo-fence warning sent to shipper on container entering Cartagena Port zone (local time)

Arrival parameters at chemical depot, showing position inside geo-fenced area, Ridgeback mounted, door closed, temperature at -22.7째C, humidity at 52% and shock reading.

Discharge at container port and truck transfer to chemical depot for Customs clearance and stripping

How the Ridgeback was attached to the inside of the container, per an adjustable brace mounted (with magnet + screw-on) on the left hand side door, with the tiny external antenna on the outside of container door at the top.

SIMPLES!

All of Hunter’s devices are multifunctional, especially the solar (RIDGEBACK) and the BULLDOG which don’t only do just tracking but also monitor a host of parameters. They come in versions with all the required sensors built-in and can even track from within a container or a truck. Attaching to the inside of a door within seconds, so no long installation process, expensive man hours or drilling. “We recently attended the 2014 TRANSEC show at the Olympia. This turned out to be more than successful for us; it was the ideal platform to meet the specialized industry of transport security. The venue attracted quality customers all seeking, for their valuable asset- tracking needs, both innovative solutions in battery life optimization and intelligent interfaces/options. We believe, given the constant interest on our stand, that Hunter Global Tracking can provide the solutions with its range of state-of-the art and versatile products.” Aside from the 2015 Transec event, Hunter Global Tracking will also be exhibiting in Africa and Central Asia where HGT regional agents have already been appointed. HGT will also attend other industry shows as the year unfolds, targeting safety, security, and risk reduction.

“Our devices are so intelligent; they really can be the solution to the most complex situation.” Ben “Many people think their situation is too complex to monitor with small, powerful mobile devices; but HGT trackers can communicate with almost any host. Our aim in 2015 is to produce solutions for many sectors but, at the same time, remain highly versatile. There is so much more you can get from our devices other than just tracking – our objective is to convince these markets of the usefulness of intelligent monitoring. So the company intends to promote its products in many new sectors requiring asset positioning, especially in emerging markets where telecoms are not great and the risk is high.” HGT intends to maintain its costing structure. The purchase of any unit includes the unit itself and any accessory together with a world-wide SIM card including 2MB of data transmission per month and unlimited use of the management platform, for 24 months. So, for the first 2 years there are no additional costs, no monthly bills, no surprise charges for your tracking. After two years the only fee to continue usage will be a yearly telecom fee based on past consumption and this is a very low cost, a bit like paying for a ‘pay as you go’ SIM card. Ben highlighted “This structure is a lot more affordable for customers in the long run and much easier for them to manage.” Ben added that “many people also think such tracking is expensive; but when you calculate the real cost of knowing where your goods or containers or trucks are, the daily tracking cost for peace of mind is ridiculously low in relation to the value of the asset!” We are very reasonably priced and are proud of the quality we provide at the price, “ HGT is global company, providing the same high quality services to any part of the world, especially to areas which are tough to operate in; even areas with no GPS coverage, HGT provides satellite communications with the same range of tracking units. The management platform is multilingual and the SIM cards have premium worldwide roaming. HGT now has agents in Southern Africa and Central Asia where tracking is difficult, telecoms sometimes unreliable but where knowing where your cargo or mobile asset is remains useful to avoid theft, pilferage and shipments ‘disappearing’ en route. Hunter Global Tracking provides high quality traceable products for the transport & logistics industry, the agricultural and construction plant sector, the leisure sector and medical needs for persons. “Our devices are so intelligent; they really can be the solution to the most complex situation,” concluded Ben.

ARMTRAC's New Robot 20T

A Revolutionary Search... Detect... Confirm & Destroy Platform

Come and see it at DSEI on UKTI Stand N6-290

Offering the complete land and route clearance toolbox, ARMTRAC LIMITED has built up an impressive reputation for designing and manufacturing high quality armoured mechanical demining machines to clear areas contaminated by landmines and other Unexploded Ordnance (UXO), as well as providing a means of Technical Survey in Land Release Stephen Brown, the founder and Managing Director of Armtrac Limited has been involved in the design, manufacture and operation of mine clearing machines for over 20 years; having overseen successful mine and UXO clearing operations in many different parts of the world, Stephen has also worked alongside the Mechanical Mine Action Committee of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).

Last year the company launched the Armtrac 20T Robot, a multi-function, general purpose, Small (Heavy) Unmanned Ground Vehicle designed to undertake high risk operations in hazardous environments, including the removal and clearance of Explosive Ordnance (EO) and Search and Rescue operations. Benefiting from low running, maintenance and replacement costs, this innovative Robot is a tracked UGV providing low ground pressure and excellent manoeuvrability in challenging terrain including 45 degree slopes.

www.armtrac.net

Describing the Armtrac 20T, the company’s Marketing & Business Development Consultant Robin Swanson went on to say: “The Armtrac 20T is a highly efficient, versatile and robust Robot which is considerably smaller than all our other machines, and as such, is designed to operate in rural areas contaminated with complex EO threats including landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), particularly in confined areas where our larger machines cannot access” “It can be fitted with a conventional X-Ray Detection system or sophisticated Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and when fitted, this revolutionary Robot offers a faster and safer way of providing a real-time search and detect function for both surface and buried explosive threats. The Armtrac 20T can also be fitted with a Disruptor or De-Armer giving it the capability to neutralise EO threats.”

“When the flail or tiller attachment is operated in front of the Armtrac 20T, it provides a level of confidence to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel that any booby traps have been initiated. When trialled by the Colombian military in July 2014, the Armtrac 20T rapidly removed the cocaine plants where booby traps are traditionally hidden to allow follow-on EOD personnel to confirm clearance of any remaining hazards. The flail head was also tested against 2Kg of high explosive with no damage.” “Although designed primarily to combat antipersonnel threats, when fitted with a mine comb, the Armtrac 20T can extract buried anti-vehicle mines to the surface for subsequent removal and disposal. This Robot is ideal for Technical Survey to establish where the mine rows are located or gather a range of other intelligence data on IEDs and UXO using the rear mounted excavator with manipulator or grapple. In short, Armtrac equipment will perform a multitude of different engineering roles over and above its primary function; a USP of the Company.”

Its’ current configuration consists of a robust vehicle platform, to which is fitted a rear mounted excavator arm. This robotic arm can have a standard digging bucket or a grapple/manipulator fitted for the investigation and confirmation of suspect devices. A flail/tiller, mine comb or conventional front loading bucket can be fitted on the front of the vehicle for the clearance of landmines, booby-traps and IEDs. Powered by a 40 HP diesel engine, it can travel at 7 KPH for several hours, and can also have a GPS system on board for the recording of the UGV’s location. As a universal platform, the Armtrac 20T can be configured for any number of operational requirements in the counter mine or IED environment. With its’ live video feed using CCTV, remote long range surveillance up to 1 km and flexible investigation and removal tools, employment in a variety of situations and environments is possible. This all makes it a powerful and ‘value for money’ option that can be easily transported by helicopter or on a general purpose trailer towed by a standard 4 x 4, to rapidly deploy for technical survey, clear explosive threats, update threat assessments or assist search and rescue.

Robin added: “Our Engineering Team has many years’ experience of manufacturing and using EO clearance machines. Because we have an on-going research and development programme, we are flexible enough to design for customers’ bespoke requirements.” Therefore, it comes as no surprise to learn that Armtrac machines are currently being used all over the world from the Middle East to the Falkland Islands. Armtrac has just won a major contract with the French MOD for up to 20 Armtrac 75Ts over 4 years and has another major contract with Egypt this year for several machines.

For Armtrac, after-sales service is not an ‘after-thought’, because the company’s highly experienced team is always available to support the Armtrac product. By encouraging feedback from customers about its machines, equipment and support mechanisms, it aims to provide a truly customer-focused service on a worldwide scale.

Armtrac is audited and certified to ISO 9001:2008. Key to securing this quality standard is the company philosophy to carry out audits of its’ quality system and conduct reviews to identify ways to ensure the system is working efficiently and effectively. Concluding Robin went on to say: “Armtrac has been successfully trading in large mechanical demining equipment for over 14 years and has developed a reputation of building quality, trusted, safe and value for money equipment. As the newest addition to the Armtrac range and, with diversity in mind, the Armtrac 20T promises to revolutionise our approach to hazardous operations in worldwide conflict. It will provide a robust, reliable, versatile and cost efficient option to reduce the threat of EO during military operations and during the postconflict clear up period.”

Captec at DSEI 2015: Computers

ince its inception in 1985, Captec has built an enviable reputation for the design and manufacture of specialist computers for challenging environments and controlled applications. In a world where humans and technology are constantly converging across multiple fronts, Captec’s computers are designed to keep applications running and ensure computers are protected against failure, disruption or change.

Computers are embedded at the core of almost everything these days with an ‘intelligent’ or ‘smart’ attribute, and the Internet of Things (IoT) is driving this even further with edge and wearable technologies. Captec are increasingly the trusted brand of choice, providing the reliable computing platform that sits inside a wide diversity of these applications. Whether it is ensuring mass transit systems like the London Underground flow seamlessly, or strategic defence equipment delivering a functional capability in the theatre of war, or CCTV systems providing security coverage, Captec’s computers deliver dependability across a scope of industries.

Computers Anywhere: Being able to provide computers for deployment anywhere, even in the most challenging of environments is what Captec prides itself on. Its ability to ensure computers not only fit the needs of specialist applications, but are also equipped to operate reliably throughout their lifecycle is what sets Captec apart from the rest. Through its expert in-house design capabilities and extensive industry knowledge, Captec is able to develop systems with a scope of protective attributes. These include thermal management for wide operating temperature, shock and vibration resilience, ingress protection and many more to achieve levels of ruggedisation and protection that ensure Captec computers can truly operate anywhere. This is one of Captec’s key differentiators to commercial computers, which require a highly benign environment to ensure their reliable operation, and are generally restricted to office, controlled server room or data centre environments.

“Our Computers Keep Applications Running, Anywhere”

Engineered to Operate Anywhere Defence and security applications require specialist attributes, more so than any other, because of the breadth of deployment environments and the mission and safety criticality that such applications require. Captec’s computing platforms offer a corresponding breadth. Commercially off the shelf (COTS) component technologies are integrated and configured into modestly protected computing platforms to deliver the best cost value proposition. They can be further protected by degrees of modification to enhance the levels of protection unique to the application; Captec terms this capability ‘COTS+’. Alternatively, where applications demand more extreme measures, these can be designed to specific requirements. Each of the three categories offers a different cost, ruggedisation and customisation profile, but all leverage the use of COTS PC technologies, providing a significant cost advantage. In many instances Captec’s design and customisation capabilities also extend into comprehensive testing. Using their extensive in-house test laboratories, they can validate “Designed to Meet” criteria. These include a dedicated EMC chamber, thermal chambers, safety testing, power and reliability testing, and many more. These often can also extend to a managed service to achieve full compliance and certification to customer specific standards at independent test laboratories. Captec is ideally situated, less than one mile away from the TUV labs, which are one of Europe’s leading independent test facilities. The ability to configure or design, and then manufacture computers to meet any specification is at the forefront of Captec’s defence endeavours, as explained by Technical Services Manager, Trevor Staley, in a recent interview: “Over the last 30 years we have invested consistently in technical skills in human resources, processes and infrastructure. The capabilities of our teams are second to none in customising, or designing bespoke computer systems for any environment, no matter how challenging, whilst meeting exact specifications. The defence and security industry is renowned for being technically demanding, and our capabilities are fully aligned to this.”

Experts in Rack Integration: Last year saw Captec move to larger premises comprising over 50,000 square feet, representing a significant investment, particularly directed towards expanding its rack integration facilities. Integrating higher complexity computing platforms into racks, requires both technical capabilities, and both operational and infrastructure scale. The space required to build and test racks is more significant. A larger complement of bill of materials (BOM) requires both physical space and greater management capability. In addition to computing are all the related equipment such as communications, specialist electronics, KVM, UPS, EMU, PDU, and other rack infrastructure components.

Captec’s new facility includes a ten rack bay build area, allowing up to ten full size racks to be built in parallel. This is further supplemented by a four stage lean flow line that can produce, depending on complexity, smaller racks every four hours. This investment allows Captec to take on multiple projects concurrently, or work with higher volume customers, which cannot be serviced by smaller organisations. Of Captec’s integration capabilities, Product Manager, Jake MacWhirter commented: “Rack integration is a big headache for many businesses when it’s not their core business, or where their IP resides. The technical complexity, coupled with the overhead to manage a diverse BOM, requiring a broad supply chain, does not add sufficient value for them, but diverts valuable resource and management bandwidth. Outsourcing, or partnering with a specialist technical integrator like Captec, removes this headache. Our offering is flexible and scalable, anything from build to print, or original design and build”. With both ISO-9001:2008 and ISO-14001:2004 certifications, Captec also has all the quality and environmental systems accreditations, together with all the underlying processes, to ensure that there are no quality gaps. In many instances it manages quality well above the standards, by means of customer agreed extra quality plans that bridge any gaps between the standard and the customer’s quality requirements. Captec is also fully connected and engaged in partner programmes, with all the leading computing technology brands, such as Intel, Microsoft and others. It is also a Dell OEM partner, allowing it to supply any product from the Dell portfolio, and offer customisation to meet any specific customer requirements.

Captec’s size and financial stability ensures that it does not pose a risk to any potential customer. The company continues to go from strength to strength. This year, Captec have not only been included in the London Stock Exchange UK’s 1000 Most Inspiring companies, but have also been presented with an award as one of the UK’s Southern region’s most ambitious companies. Little wonder then that Captec has won a place in the 2015 Sunday Times Profit Track 100 league table.

Managing Director, Max Toti, said: “Our knowledge and expertise in designing and manufacturing custom computers, combined with our ability to integrate larger racked complex systems means there is no application we can’t tackle. We draw on our 30+ years of experience in supporting customers across all sectors, to ensure customers can comfortably outsource their computing or rack integration requirements to a tried, tested and trusted supplier.”

Visit Captec at DSEI 2015 on stand S9-145 where they will showcase their product and capability offerings and welcome discussion of customer requirements. The event takes place from 15th to 18th September 2015 at ExCel, London, and Captec look forward to meeting with you there.

Cees Muurling The original international supplier of aluminium stage barrier systems, Mojo Barriers offers an extensive range of products and services to live events including festivals, tours, corporate events, sporting and cultural occasions. The first Mojo Barriers office in the UK, located in Essex, was opened in 1998 following huge demand for products and services. With an international network, Mojo Barriers has been the trusted global stage barrier supplier for over twenty years. Through continual investment in research and development, Mojo have manufactured and supplied industry-leading proprietary event barriers and related products which are adaptable, reliable and proven to improve safety. In a recent interview with the company's Managing Director, Cees Muurling, he gave an insight into the success of the Mojo Barriers and how the company has evolved since its inception over twenty years ago.

Firstly, Cees was asked if he could provide a brief history of the company? “Established in 1988 as an offshoot of Netherlands-based promoters Mojo Concerts, we (Mojo Barriers) were among the very first companies to develop a specially-designed stage barricade system,” he explained. “Since then, the term ‘Mojo Barriers’ has become synonymous with crowd safety barriers and our products are used on many of the biggest tours and festival sites throughout the world.” “We have expanded considerably in the last twenty five years,” Cees went on to say, “opening our UK (London) office in 1998, USA (Colorado Springs) in 2003 and Australia (Sydney) in 2012. We also have a network of international distributors in countries including New Zealand, Finland, Norway, Denmark, France, Spain and Japan.” With over 25 years in crowd control, Mojo Barriers have gone on to supply countless events. Product development has also been key to growth, with the introduction of the lighter aluminium barrier, line-up gates and most recently the intelligent turnstile system Gatekeeper 2.0, which incorporates ticket scanning capabilities. “Over the last year, we have launched our new ‘High Fence’ product into the security market, which was specifically designed and installed for the G20 summit in Brisbane to help keep heads of state, including Barack Obama and David Cameron safe,” he added.

Can you give an insight into the experience that the company holds? “From global tours, festivals, sporting events to the G20 and the London 2012 Olympics, we have vast experience working on some of the world’s biggest events,” explained Cees. “We have kept crowds safe at TomorrowWorld, Lollapalooza, Big Day Out, Metallica, Beyonce, The Rolling Stones and AC/DC to name just a few, as well as being integrated into countless existing stadium facilities throughout the world.” “We are constantly looking to enhance the products we offer and our High Fence is testament to this,” he continued. “With over 4,000 delegates and 3,000 media descending on Brisbane to discuss a wide range of global economic issues, the system was required to create restricted zones across the city and form protective walls around the event’s venues, including the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.”

Throughout 2015 Mojo Barriers will be looking to expand the reach of the High Fence into the security market. Coates Hire contracted Mojo Barriers to supply and install a unique barrier solution as specified by police and government officials. The resulting product, High Fence, consists of 1m wide and 2.4m high sections of reinforced aluminium barrier – the standard crowd control equipment from the company's product range – with a seethrough Polycarbonate upper, which is a durable and high impact resistant material and can can easily withstanding destructive attacks. Over 2,000m of the product was installed across the city by Mojo's Australian team. Doors and gates were also manufactured which integrated into the barrier line, to ensure fire safety and access and egress regulations could be met.

For further information, please call Mojo Barriers' UK office on 0170

What can clients expect to gain from investing in Mojo's products and services?

What sectors of the industry do you consider to be the company's main market?

“We have been at the forefront of crowd control for the past twenty five years and have experience in safeguarding crowd control at some of the world’s biggest events. However, we are more than just a barrier supplier,” Cees explained.

Cees said: “Twenty five years ago we launched into the music industry and have been working on tours, concerts and festivals ever since. We have worked with the likes of U2, Madonna and AC / DC and supplied our barriers to an array of festivals all over the world, including Glastonbury Festival, Roskilde and Rock Werchter.”

“We study the science of crowd dynamics at different events and venues to identify where and how to position our barriers. The development of our ‘Barrier Load Monitoring System’ (BLMS), which is a barrier system complete with integrated sensors, allows us to measure real-time crowd pressure which allows any potential incidents to be quickly identified and addressed.” “We also have the skills and knowledge to produce bespoke barriers for any live event. The High Fence was commissioned by the G20 who required a barrier that could withstand attacks but did not obscure views for security and military teams, and so we specifically designed and installed 2km of this product across the city.” “At Mojo Barriers, we don’t just supply barriers, we also provide boots on the ground to ensure optimum safety throughout any live event or at any venue,” he added. “By constantly analysing crowd behaviour and crowd flow, we have the ability to adapt and respond to any potential emergency.”

“However, in the last year we have launched into the security market through our High Fence product and this is an industry we’re really looking forward to expanding into. The High Fence has potential to bring huge benefits within the security industry and the G20 was just the start.” “Throughout 2015 we are looking to expand the reach of the High Fence into the security market, mainly by providing all types of venues an instant High Security Fence solution to create a perimeter around their venue - in the event of an outside threat approaching. Our Mojo team will come into any venue to train the onsite security team and install the fence as fast and as safely as possible. These perimeter fences will have heavy duty gateways for controlled entry/exit points until the threat has been downgraded, at which point the security team in charge can make the decision to take the fence down”.

Along with its unique design, the AC904 combat helmet is bend resistant whilst still possessing the capability to withstand blunt trauma, blast fragmentation and ballistic threats due to the material lay-up used during manufacture. This reduced weight philosophy at the same or higher levels of performance has been further developed in Morgan’s latest Combat Helmet offering the AC905 high cut assault helmet. Morgan's production capabilities are driven and flexed to meet needs of the customer providing a process which is fully traceable and uses dedicated cutting, moulding and QA systems.

Ballistic Protective Inserts are engineered to the most

demanding of requirements including NIJ0101.04 and NIJ0101.06 levels I to IV and higher multi-hit threats. The design and manufacture of the plate carriers and complete body armour systems make the inserts the ideal solution for military, police and civilian end users. Morgan's unparalleled experience enables the company to produce systems that meet the specific and urgent requirements of its customers. For example, the UK MOD Osprey plate, which was used in Afghanistan, took just a few weeks to develop, qualify and produce. To date, Morgan Advanced Materials have manufactured 100,000 Osprey plate with the whole system design, prototype qualification and delivery capabilities on site in Coventry. Morgan also conducts batch destructive and nondestructive testing for the UK MOD using its x-ray capabilities to characterise post-conflict helmets and protection plates to detect any anomalies in the ceramic structure. Once an irregularity is identified or an item is reclassified, it is either removed from service or reworked prior to return to the UK MOD or government agency

Morgan Advanced Materials' latest product offering is the LASA Soldier System comprising of light weight helmets, light weight ballistic plates, load carriages and Tier 3 ballistic protection. The range was launched at Defence Security Asia (DSA) held in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and more recently at DVD, Millbrook, UK. Morgan's revolutionary Ergotec EOD Suits combine maximum protection with class leading ergonomic performance. Designed for use in disposal strategies and gathering of forensic intelligence, the suits are favoured by the UK MOD and an increasing number of countries worldwide. Designed with leading-edge materials technology and garment engineering, the EOD suits provide the user with maximum protection with minimal hindrance to movement. They are lightweight, comfortable to wear for extended periods and feature effective ventilation and cooling systems thus reducing operator fatigue.

Morgan's ERGOTEC EOD suits are available in two versions: ERGOTEC 4010 EOD suit offers maximum protection and ergonomic performance allowing the operator the freedom required to gather forensic intelligence, whilst typically offering a 30% reduction in weight or a 12kg saving in weight burden for the operator. ERGOTEC 3010 is a lightweight EOD search suit designed to enable extended duration missions in a high threat environment.

DMS Plastics has recently played a key role in the restoration of the only 'Futuro' house in the UK, which has been undertaken by artist Craig Barnes on the roof of Matts Gallery in East London.

As you would expect from such a forward-thinking organisation that holds full accreditation to BS EN ISO 9001:2000, quality control is of paramount importance; with every detail being checked and re-checked in the Design Department before a prototype can be created. AWARD NEWS

Visit Radio Tactics at DSEI 2013 on Stand N7- 474 in the Security and Special Forces Zone

2013

Cutting-edge Digital Intelligence & Evidence Gathering Equipment Secures Top Award for RADIO TACTICS Throughout the year, the Directors at the Security Industry E-Mag select organisations that have best demonstrated a proven ability to go that extra mile in not only meeting but exceeding the needs of their clients. Therefore, in line with this philosophy, it gives us pleasure to announce RADIO TACTICS has been selected to receive the PRODUCT INNOVATION AWARD 2013, a totally independent Award Programme that is recognised both in this country and abroad. Radio Tactics were chosen for their commitment to solutions supporting the fight against crime and terrorist threats. The Award Scheme was created in order to recognise those businesses and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to their particular field. Security Industry E-Mag is always keen to bring attention to those who are providing a product or service that stands out from the crowd and deserves to be appreciated not only by its readers, but also by a wider audience. Not every organisation can walk away with one of these accolades, that have become the hallmark of success, but those that do all

emerge from the process more successful; with many having gone on to become acknowledged leaders in the marketplace. The market for high tech digital intelligence and evidence gathering equipment has evolved considerably due to the proliferation of communications-based mobile applications and standardised operating systems. This places greater strain on crime prevention and government agencies as they battle with this increased complexity and the need to adapt to new digital devices, applications and systems. With the rapid growth in the use of smartphones and associated ‘Apps’ Radio Tactics have developed a leading position in the provision of dedicated decoders for the most popular ‘Apps’. The decoders can acquire important data that is often stored in proprietary formats within the phone, including user details, passwords, contact details as well as conversational chat messages and other data. The ACESO and ATHENA implementations ensure that this data can be extracted and viewed in a systematic and evidentially secure manner.

Security Industry emag

Southampton-based Radio Tactics knows only too well the challenges facing organisations operating in forensic security. Established in 2004, the company is a specialist innovator of high tech digital intelligence and evidence gathering equipment for customers worldwide. Operating from head quarters in the UK, with further satellite branches in America and Australia, the company provides high tech, reliable solutions to the security industry, including those operating in military, law enforcement, governments and intelligence agencies. By drawing on the skill and expertise of a dedicated team, the company is also able to provide bespoke exploitation solutions that allow organisations to interrogate and interface with mobile phones, GPS and portable digital devices. These solutions enable authorised users to retrospectively gather evidence, as well as capture useful intelligence information. As advancements in technology make mobile communications more fluid, those operating in the forensic security industry face greater challenges. According to Mike Rose, Head of Marketing at Award-winning Radio Tactics, the mobile market has seen the biggest increase in demand in the last couple of years, based on rapid technological advancements. He revealed that the company is working to develop its current product range to keep up with the challenges facing its customer base, whilst also focusing on how future developments will influence new innovations: “The challenges for our customers are now much greater than they were when the company was first established, at a time when mobile technology was still very much in its infancy. In particular, advanced device capabilities and faster connectivity has seen technology-based crime become more of a threat than it was ten years ago. This has led to heightened demand for high tech digital

2013

intelligence and evidence gathering equipment, which is now at the forefront of crime prevention.” He added: “We work in a very fluid industry, where technology is undergoing a revolution and rapid connectivity and wider mobile usage is resulting in the emergence of more acute challenges for our customers. As a result, we have to react quickly and work proactively to develop solutions for the next generation.” Key to securing this Award is the company’s commitment to focus on the development of innovative crime prevention, evidence and intelligence gathering solutions, to meet the growing requirements of a rapidly changing market. With R&D a vital part of Radio Tactics’ future strategic vision, it comes as no surprise to learn that around two thirds of the staff are engaged in R&D functions. “A huge challenge facing authorities and organisations is ensuring technology develops at pace with the evolution of operating systems. As a company, we need to provide solutions that are efficient and effective to trace and store information securely. We also need to maintain operational excellence when dealing with existing technology so that we cater for as broader range of devices and applications as possible. This is particularly true when faced with different operating systems, such as Apple’s iOS, the Microsoft range of systems, Android and the Linux-based operating system to name just a few.” “We’re committed to providing the best possible solution to our customers, based on specific requirements. And, as mobile device storage is increasing exponentially, it means we have to develop solutions that work faster and more efficiently to capture this data and support our customer base with their objectives.” The ATHENA platform which has been developed in partnership with the US, Australian and UK military, is designed for frontline military and intelligence users. It addresses the need for

an acquisition tool which can be deployed to Special Forces to support operators making real-time decisions on the ground when ATHENA is a unique total intelligence gathering solution offering more than just mobile device data acquisition; it includes an integrated camera capability to take still images and motion videos as well as GPS location capture to record positional information, thereby delivering a complete intelligence overview. Rapid acquisition allows users to decide what types of data are of value during time critical operations reducing the time taken to acquire data from the target device. The solution is fully interruptible and can be disconnected at any point during an acquisition but will still retain the data already acquired.

Receiving this Award is a milestone for RADIO TACTICS and forms the final piece of the jigsaw that confirms the Company’s success, as well as acting as a seal of approval to prospective clients. Commenting on receiving this accolade, Mike went on to say: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as winners of this prestigious Award which recognises the uniqueness of Radio Tactics’ solutions. Behind these Best-in Class products is a dedicated team of highly creative and talented professionals who have successfully combined technology and customer insight to craft products that are deployed for use by non-expert law enforcement personnel”.

Actionable intelligence can be placed into watch lists deployed on the ATHENA terminal and have been proven in operations globally to imrpove tactical decision making.

Andy Gill, Managing Director at Radio Tactics commented that it was gratifying to receive the Award at this time as the Company prepares to celebrate its milestone 10th anniversary in January 2014.

Mission commanders have found the watch list capabilities to be invaluable in action an now rely on it.

THINK....Revolutionary Marine Condition Monitoring Systems

THINK.....J.F. MIMIC

For over 20 years James Fisher Mimic has provided tailored services and products to the Defence and Maritime industry globally. Therefore, it comes as no surprise to learn the new state-of-the-art Super Carriers currently being built for the UK Royal Navy will all contain JF Mimic Condition Monitoring & Vibration Analysis Systems; with longer established naval ships also seeking to reap the benefits of reduced costs by installing JF Mimic Condition Monitoring Systems. As a division of the James Fisher& Sons Plc group of companies, JF Mimic (JFM) has access to a unique blend of knowledge, talent and expertise, enabling the Company to offer a full range of condition monitoring services through its' Mimic Condition Monitoring Software System, including

• • • •

Load monitoring, Stress and strain measurements, Vibration analysis Thermography.

James Fisher Mimic have proudly provided condition monitoring software and services to the UK Royal Navy (RN) for over 20 years.

Why JF Mimic? The Company can provide bespoke software solutions to on-going monitoring problems, requirements and needs, equipping companies with the insight to avoid expensive operating costs associated with asset depreciation, unforeseen breakdowns and costly service disruptions. As part of the Company's commitment to provide a truly customer-focused service, JFM's in-house software developers work with clients to ensure that whatever the requirement the Company provide the right solution to meet the client's specific needs. The old adage that 'if one part of a process falls, it will have a detrimental effect on the whole scheme of things', certainly applies when it comes to naval vessels; if one liner fails to perform its' role, due to a maintenance shortfall, it could well stop the entire fleet from taking part in a valuable operation. The complexity of modern warships makes it imperative that people charged with operational and maintenance decisions are given accurate and detailed information on the exact condition of a vessel and its assets before tasking and despatching to a conflict area. JFM supply a range of products, both existing and bespoke, to ensure that Fleet Commanders can instantaneously know the up-to-date condition of their fleet.

Primarily designed around daily routines on-board the RN's warship and submarine fleets, JFM software's functionality and purpose-built design has enabled 'Mimic tasks' to become engrained in the RN's daily maintenance activity, as JFM's Business & Engineering Manager Martin Briddon explained in a recent interview: "Our Mimic software and range of condition monitoring products have evolved over the decades and are able to provide information to operators, maintainers and Commanders of modern fleets in order to sustain operational effectiveness. All around the world governments are demanding more whilst spending less. Naval fleets have to adapt, and our products support those personnel who have to make the right decisions to ensure an efficient and cost effective naval force." The United Kingdom's Submarine Fleet has been using JFM software since the 1990s to monitor and assess the condition of boats' machinery; with the country Royal Fleet Auxiliary having also relied on support from JFM solutions for over ten years.

James Fisher Mimic provides a range of condition monitoring products that support the most complex and arduous of environments and industries.

Cherry Parts Ltd originally began in 1971 as Cherry Engineering Company, a small subcontract engineering company manufacturing silver plated copper seals for Co2 charges and sub-contract engineering for specialist applications in the power generation industry. As the seals business grew, Cherry Engineering Company's product range did too; specialising in original equipment parts supplied to fire extinguisher manufacturers. In 1991, current Managing Director, Peter Forster set up Cherry Parts Ltd as a sister company to Cherry Engineering Company, which was his father's company, to supply a small range of service items and spare parts to the fire extinguisher service industry. In the early days, the main products were wall brackets, safety pins and plastic tamper seals. The business has grown over the years, as has the product range and today Cherry Parts are one of the top names in the fire protection trade supplying everything from service parts to tools, cabinets and stands for fire extinguishers right through to specialist equipment such as ultrasonic liquid level detection equipment to the fire trade, facilities management companies, shipping and offshore platforms.

Advancement of fire protection equipment.

Customers who purchases from Cherry Parts benefit from specialist knowledge, service and the fast turnaround of orders thanks to the vast quantities of stocks that the company carries. Advancements in technology and knowledge base, has seen Cherry Parts become a leading name in custom printed security and tamper evident seals, which are manufactured in the UK so can usually be supplied within a few days of approval of artwork, even in small quantities. The company has many years of experience in the trade with all relevant staff actually qualified to do the jobs our customers do so we understand their needs. Peter Forster, the Managing Director was one of the early members of the trade organisation the British Fire Consortium and he served on their council for 10 years until he no longer had the time to continue although Cherry Parts Ltd is still an active member. The company are also members of two other trade organisations thus ensuring that they are always up-to-date with changes in standards and legislation.

Today, Cherry Parts main market is the fire extinguisher service industry with shipping and offshore custom also being very important. Appearing at Transport Security Expo 2015 which takes place at Olympia London over 2-3 December, the main products that Cherry Parts will be exhibiting include tamper and security seals, fire extinguishers and ancillary items such as cabinets and stands. The Tyne & Wear-based company will also have a full range of security and tamper evident seals on display at the exhibition. Among Cherry Parts' product range, the company are particularly proud of their chrome fire extinguisher stands which are designed to sit nicely against a wall if desired but also to stand in a corner and look like they are meant to be there as well as other great features. The easy to clean base and practical design ensures that the devices are functional whilst looking good too. Commander速 Stainless Steel & Polished Extinguishers are perfect for areas where appearance is important. Sometimes it is not an option to compromise on aesthetics - why spoil the effect with fire equipment? Stainless steel is one of the most corrosionresistent materials therefore ensuring the Cherry Parts' Commender速 units are among the most robust available. The extinguishers meet all legislation and can house water, foam, CO2 and powder extinguishing agents. Cherry Parts offer a full complement of supporting materials which is available for each design and, an extremely knowledgeable Technical Team are on hand to assist with any queries.

Cherry Parts' Security Seals, which will be a prominent feature of the company's stand at Transec this year, include cable seals, metal ball seals and polypropylene seals including the Kel Tie and Gare Loch MK1, MK2 350 and 400 offerings. The seals are available in a variety of colours with laser printing options and provide optimum performance in securing everything from vehicle doors, fire exits, roll cages, fire extinguishers and first aid boxes to cash bags, tanker vales and clinical waste bags. Another of Cherry's leading security products, the Howler Site Alert® is designed for smaller sites and for smaller budgets. The fully wireless Site Alert RF® range of emergency evacuation alarms are simple to install and operate with a master unit linked to up to a further thirty subsidiary units. The alarms can be activated at any one point, and silenced by pressing button on any unit three times in succession. Howler Site Alert® units also feature a disconnection warning via an LED light. It is essential for radio-linked alarms to have a disconnection warning which does not depend on someone remembering to carry out a weekly test. The units' weatherproof design make the system suitable for indoor and outdoor locations, and can be powered by standard, readily available alkaline batteries. All products undergo rigorous in-house testing to ensure the best possible standards. Cherry Parts strive to ensure that their products are of the highest quality and fixed at the most competitive price. The company’s website www.cherry-parts. co.uk will feature special offers and exciting new products over the coming months so please look out for these.
