Cardiac Specialist
Dr Clifford Piers Clifford graduated from Oxford University in 1984 with a first class degree before completing his medical training at St Mary’s Medical School, London in 1987. His cardiological training was predominantly at the Hammersmith Hospital, where he still works as an Interventional Cardiologist.
He was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist to Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 1999. He is now the Clinical Lead for Cardiology, the Chairman of the Division of Medicine, and has developed highly successful angioplasty and investigative units which are unrivalled by other district hospitals. He has developed vast experience, skill and expertise in all areas of adult cardiology with a particular interest in coronary intervention, the modern treatment of hypertension, atrial fibrillation and the inherited cardiomyopathies. Also in 1999, Dr. Clifford began his private practice at the Chiltern Hospital to further meet the needs of Buckinghamshire residents and to allow him to offer the very highest standard of personalised patient care. He now also offers consultations at the Shelburne Hospital in High Wycombe, HCA Chiswick, and HJE in St Johns Wood, London.
Dr. Clifford has three children and lives in central London. He plays competitive tennis, enjoys good food and fine wine, and likes to spend as much time as possible in the mountains. However, his sons tend to keep him on the touchline and his daughter in the clothes shops.
Support Staff Dr. Clifford’s secretary, Catherine Teasdel, is a vastly experienced medical secretary who has worked alongside him for the last 11 years. On the rare occasion when she is not available, a support secretary will always be on hand to answer your queries and provide access to your test results.
Medico Legal
Dr. Clifford has extensive experience in providing medico legal reports and examinations in matters relating to the cardiovascular system. He aims to achieve a rapid turnaround, usually providing the report within a week of the request, and to provide a definitive opinion to assist with obtaining a quick and satisfactory resolution to each case.
Dr Clifford has produced medicolegal reports for medical negligence claims for the last 5 years, acting predominantly for the Claimant, and has adjudicated on cases deciding whether doctors are fit to practice. He performs medical assessments for fitness to fly and to race high performance vehicles. As Clinical Lead for cardiology He is instrumental in developing protocols for safe patient care and has a particular interest in measuring quality of health care delivery. Dr Clifford has undertaken expert witness training with Bond Solon and has received the Cardiff University CUBS certificate.
Dr Cliffords research interest is in the molecular genetics of cardiovascular disease and he is Principal Investigator in 15 clinical trials including studies on coronary stenting, using novel technologies to reduce infarct size in heart attack, the modern treatment of atrial fibrillation and in cardiac rehabilitation. Dr Clifford has won National awards (PEN award for continuity of care, finalist for HSJ Value in Healthcare and an award for commercial research from Dame Sally Davies). He is on the Council of the British Cardiovascular Society.
