The Barnet Center
Project Report The Center in Barnet EN5 5XE was taken as one of our projects to refurbish the building internally and externally. Our clients; The Temple Foundation had given us the basic requirments they wanted within their building. The Center is used for Several different facilities and accomadates to the public. Our aim of refurbishing The Center was to create a zero carbon building to help the enviorment and to provide a space that allows social distancing and sustainability. It was our aim to not change the external structure of the building completely due to our clients budget, this was we could ensure that our clients requirments were being met without exceeding their total cost budget. We decided to focus on Natrual lighting and human movement throughout our design process and decided to include a large triple glazed glass ellipse in the center of the building, this will allow natrual lighting to enter the heart of the building where majority of the users will be walking through. We included two fire exits on both East and West elevation to ensure there was easy accsess routes to the outside incase of any emergency. We have included the following rooms and spaces within The Center: Cafe/Forum space, two individual meditation rooms, recording studio, plant/ storage room, women and male toilets, disabled toilet, Exhibition room, therapy room, kitchen area, healing garden. On the eneterance of the buildin we decided to also include a stand for bikes, this is an extra way of approaching the zero carbon requirment. When creating a design plan it was very difficult to ensure we had a low budget and provide a zero carbon building. The building had bad insulation which meant that we had to knock the internal walls in order to accomadote to the Zero Carbon approach. In conclusion, the zero carbon approach assigned with The center in Barnet was an extremly difficult site, the budget was too low to create a asthetically pleasing facade and to provide the necessary materials needed in order to make the building Zero Carbon. Futhermore, we kept the buildings design minimalistic to provide a full zero carbon approach, this minamilstic approach also allowed us to create an enviorment with social distancing and stress free energy.

Population density
My chosen location for my building is the town Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Hatfield is a location I am very fimilar with and i have a lot of knowlegde in the surrounding areas, this is why i have decided to focus on Hatfield. The university of hertfordshire contributes heavily to the economy in Hatfield as it attracts a substantial amount of students who reside within this town. There are not many attractions or activity centers within Hatfield, majority of the residents have to travel to other towns and bouroughs in order to do any activities such as, golf, bowling, playroom and arcades. Due to the large number of students within Hatfield as well residents within and surrounding areas, this Town has the potential to develop into a town that attracts a variety of people.
In 2019 figures show that there was 23,402 males living in hatfield and 21,988 females.
Hatfield accomadates to a larger number of people within the age range of 18-64 years. In 2019 the figures of residents in Hatfield within this age range was 32,769. In 2019 Hatfield also accomodated 8,348 number of people in the age range of 0-17 and 4,273 of civilians who were older than 65.

Threats -The location of mercure hotel is very secluded from the center of hatfied and the retail center The Galleria, therefore there could be a possibility that this location will not be busy. -The site it far from Hatfield train station, therefore it could be difficcult for non drivers to accsess this time, which may cause the site to be less popular.
Weaknesses - The site is secluded from other important buildings such as the retail shopping center nearby. The site is not in the center of hatfield, therefore it may be a difficult location for hatfield living public memebers to accses. -The site is not near the Train station. The location of the site may atrract too many students, and this might be a problem for certain civilians.
Strengths -The site is located near the A1 motoway, making it easily accsessable for Oppurtuinites -Large square meters which allow architects civilians who live or travel from outside the Hatfield area. - The site is located near the College Lane Campus, this automatically makes to design with more land. -Can see the building instantly while driving it a huge potential for students to visit the building - Large site space, which allows us to easily demolish and build. past. -There is enough space within the site to de- - The location of the site is seperated from a lot of other buildings and acsign not only a building but also a surround- comdations which means there is less noise surrounding the site. - The site has no buildings on both sides, this means that the construction ing green space and parking. process will be easier. Hatfield historical time line
The maps presented below show how hatfield on a city scale has deveoped into the town it is today. The increase in roads show how Hatfield has become more interconnected with its neighbouring towns, in turn creating a sense of community and better links with the city of London. It can also be seen how housing has developed into a more structured town.

PROJECT REPORT The Energy is a Multifunctonal public building in Hatfield. Our firm has taken on the project to design a building that allows members of the public to utilise and visit the building as part of their daily lives. I have proposed ‘The Energy’ project in order to attract more indivduals and families into Hatfield and to create a safe space so Hatfield as a Town are able to easily adapt to any future pandemics that may occur. The main pupose of this mulitifunctional building, ‘The Energy’, is to be able to present the concept that buildings can have more purposes than one under one roof. My design contains several different rooms which serve different purposes and have been designed to attract a wider range of people. In relation to present day events, covid19 has changed the way we live and work in our day to day lives. The pandemic has forced places to close down as a result of over populating places and not being able to function safely within these buildings. I have aimed to create a large safe space in which members of the public are able to utilise to their benefit and relax the affairs of their daily life whilst relaxing at ‘The Energy’ With influences from present day pandemics, it was important that I created a space with a large amount of internal space, where several different activities or tasks can be completed allowing individuals to socially distance and continue with their daily activities. Futhermore, my project has been difficult during the design development stage and we have faced many challanges that we will impove on in order to make the building more sustainable and user friendly. We believe in order to make this building more structurally sustainable we must include large collumns to support the building structure and we also think that the air vents within the glass panels in each floor is not enough for the size of building. We take on these challanges in hopes to better the lives of the people in Hatfield and the surrounding areas, we take great pride to think about human movement and human emotions and would like to further develop in order to serve the publics mentals and physical health.

Second Floor Floor Plan 1:100 This multifunctional building has three levels; Ground floor, First floor and second Floor. Within these elevations and plans we are able to notice the structure of the building and how it is carefully layered. The ground floor is dedicated to the Cafe, Childrens playroom and a sensor room for individuals with disabilities. Our first level promotes wellbeing and health, providing a gym, dance studio, massage rooms and an open rooftop for socialising and sports. The second level is dedicated to students, entrepeneurs and teachers, providing a large learning resource center with an open rooftop.

Here area a few 3D prespective photographic images of The Energy Multifunctinol Public Building. We have selected these perspective images specifically in order for you to understand how ‘space’ was very important when planning the design. In these perspective views we are able to see the amount of space this building has within, we made sure that human movment was considered and well thought out during our design process. One of our favourite rooms is the Sensor Room, this room is specifcally designed for individuals with disbilities. The sensor room is a space in which individuals can come and relax in. We made sure that the Sensor rooms were sectioned away from an area with a lof of people, for example the Cafe. We made sure that every persons emotions and health was considered when designing the rooms and spaces in order to make everyone feel less anxious and more happy.

The Hills Kitchen
Freelance Project
The Hills Resturant is situated in Southgate, 49 Cannon Hill, London N14 6LH. The clients of this resturant wanted a refurbishment of he interior design. Me and my design partner took initiative to create a modern approach to the new design. Our clients wanted the resturant to be grey themed with crystals as their main decrotaive material. We decided to recreate the floor plan while keeping the structure the same.
