The Incheon Arrivals Kit is here! Want to know a little more of the history of the culture? Read about it in the November issue of SimmedUp Magazine.

Enable_Llam Hey SimmedUp, enable_llamas here, and today I’m going to tell you a bit more about how I got into the whole Sims business and making custom content. For me, everything began in the dawn of the original Sims 1. One day when we were about nine-ish, my best friend came over and told me all bout this amazing new game her older sister got — you could create people and build their houses and control their life! It’s hard to explain the excitement and the absolute wonder it created from today’s point of view, the whole Sims franchise has been so deeply integrated into pop culture that the name itself has become a synonym for any life simulator, but back in the day, it was the first of its kind. There was simply nothing like it. And so, I was hooked. I got the Base Game and House Party first and let me tell you, ten-year-old me was having a blast making Tiki-themed rooms and using bright, inflatable couches in every house. Then, one by one, I got all the other expansions and spent countless hours exploring the different neighborhoods, receiving smackdowns from Ms. Crumplebottom and visits from Claire the Bear and El Bandito. The sheer amount of things to do in the game was amazing, and then I discovered the magical world of custom content. ‘Excited’ doesn’t even begin to cover my feelings on the matter. I

8

wanted everything, and I wanted it in every color. Of course, being very young and not tech-savvy enough — not to mention living in the age of dial-up home internet, I couldn’t get all the shiny new things in-game without help, so I enlisted my dad. He would download a bunch of stuff for me while at work and then install them when he got home. It was a good system, for the most part. He would download anything he thought I might like indiscriminately and sometimes things would backfire and crash the game, or make it load insanely long. By the end of it all, it took about twenty or so minutes to load but even that didn’t deter me from my love of cc. When The Sims 2 came out, it was a monumental leap from its predecessor, being fully 3D and allowing you to view your creations from every angle imaginable. And they aged and progressed with their life! Unfortunately back then my desktop couldn’t run it very well so I didn’t get to play with all the expansions until much later, but even with the base game and one or two EPs I could still download a bunch of gorgeous objects and houses and spend hours building, decorating and renovating. The much more advanced Build Mode only served to solidify my love for that aspect of the game. And then we come to my love, The Sims 3. Again, a huge step forward with the open world and the virtually limitless customization. I think the latter is what will always

mas sway me most towards this iteration of the game. I simply love to tweak, edit and customize every little detail of every little thing and can’t imagine going back. It has its fair share of problems, but in the end, the good outweighs the bad in my opinion. I’ve played TS3 since the beginning, and for many years I would download copious amounts of cc, always searching for that perfect object to complete the look. Until at one point it occurred to me that I could learn how to make them myself. I started, much like everyone else I imagine, with small tweaks and recolors of things, and after many hours of watching tutorials finally felt curious enough to dabble with conversions and then creating things from scratch. There is something incredibly satisfying in seeing your first piece of custom content in-game — even if it’s wonky or not very good — that feeling of accomplishment you get will have you grinning at your screen and your ‘baby’. And then, personally, it always makes me happy when something you’ve worked hard on turns exactly how you pictured it, and you can’t wait to use it in your next build in that perfect spot. My love for building and decorating is what fueled my cc-making ‘career’ essentially — I follow and subscribe to an alarming number of Interior Design and Architecture blogs and publications and every time I see a

cool piece of furniture I keep thinking “Hmm but what if we got it for TS3”. I think that encompasses my style when it comes to my own creations — everything I would personally want to have in the game. I may tire of my sim families occasionally, but building and decorating will always have a special place in my heart. I think that sums things up, pretty much. Last but not least, a thank you to the wonderful community of Sims creators who’ve helped me so much through my journey and are always willing to offer advice or sympathy when things crash and burn. Thank you for having me and have a wonderful week! You can find me on: Tumblr: https://enable-llamas.tumblr.com/ MTS: https://modthesims.info/m/ 8968086

Hah. Now I need 10 to 15 skirts so you need to head over to Calvin Klein and get those.

Please bore someone else with your questions. Make sure we have Pier 59 at 8am tomorrow, and remind Jocelyn I need to see a few of those satchels that Mark is doing in the pony, then tell Simone I’ll take Jackie if Maggie isn’t available, and find out if Demarchelier confirmed.

Hello, I’m here for Miranda’s order please.

Hello? Andrea? You need to pick up Miranda’s Steak, her dry cleaning, and walk her dog. Got it?

Hi, Miranda… I’m really sorry but I really didn’t know what skirts you were looking for, I really tried to find them but I just didn’t know what to look for and no-one on the department seemed to know what it was you were looking for. I also went to pick up your steak but they didn’t get their delivery today, so they couldn’t make your order. Again, I’m really sorry and-

ItsKingFalcon Hello! I am KingFalcon :) I am a huge fan of Sims 4 and have been playing it for many years! I was very young when I got Sims 2 as a Christmas present and have very fond memories growing up playing the game after school, even though my computer was not that powerful to support a game that required higher graphical configuration.

play sims, I felt 'Wish we had this' or 'Wish someone would make this', especially since I do not own a lot of expansion packs. I have had a general idea on 3D modeling and thought 'Let's give it a try- How hard can it be?' Was it an easy start? LOL! No!.

I started watching tutorials on how to create CC and Several years later, I picked up Sims 4 and ever since have been a at first, got intimidated by huge fan of the game. the process. But thanks to many required for 3D wonderful cc creators out there, modeling and the game never seems to get software like Sims4 boring! Studios, Blender, etc. How did you start making CC for the Sims 4?

I would start with simple projects and simple objects to get a general idea of what does what and how it looks in the game.

Oh well! I never thought I would get into making CC! and certainly never imagined publishing them to I then started making cc for my the community. gameplay and builds. I had no knowledge of cc making. Whenever I would decorate or

What is your latest CC set? I recently published 'Fuvwara'- a

Fountain Set is my latest addition of more fountains for the base game! I felt the game was missing some fountains and especially for the base game. People who do not have expansion packs can enjoy them as well. So I thought of addressing the problem. :P I had great fun creating this set. I got so involved in it that I ended up with a lot of swatches and had to limit to finally 99! The biggest challenge with this set was learning how to do custom tuning that took the most time and was extremely difficult in the beginning. I almost quit the idea of continuing with this set

as I could not figure out water animation and custom tuning, but a big thanks to BakieGaming & Syboulette who guided me. I have tremendous respect for content creators who make functional CCs as the effort that goes behind custom tuning and other aspects of the game are not visible to the naive eye. Do you have any Upcoming CC? I am working on a buy-build set that will add more variety to architectural pieces. Not sure how long it will take to publish them, but I hope it will be soon!
