RESTAURANT REVIEW

Dragon Schatz Food Several Asian dishes. Beef Kung Po or Chicke Szechuan were awesome! For dessert we had a special ice coffee and fried pineapple with vanilla ice cream. All was served with love and some tasty notes: Das isch musig!

The “Dragon Schatz” is a Chinese restaurant. This restaurant is located at the main road in Rotkreuz. From outside it looks quite boring, but as soon as you enter the door you feel like you just traveled to Far East.

Drinks The wine card is impressive for a Chinese restaurant. Of course you can get traditional drinks like jasmine tea as well.

Ambiance Far-Eastern style. All tables were decorated with hearts formed out of rose blossoms.

Service Great service (with a Bernese accent), although the restaurant was full due to V-Day. Prices are accurate for what you get regarding quality of food and service! We really can recommend the food and service at Dragon Schatz. If you live close, are close due to visits or simply travel through beautiful Switzerland, you may have a look here.

Put the stiff egg white in the other bowl and mix it carefully. 5. Add the flour and mix carefully again. 6. Divide batter into 6 small bowls and add the following gel food colors (one each bowl): red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Pour each colored batter into a decorating bag or resealable food-storage plastic bag, and cut one corner off each bag. For better control with cake batter, be sure to cut small opening on end of each resealable bag. 7. Starting with purple batter, carefully squeeze a thin diagonal line of colored batter onto each pan; repeating with blue, green, yellow, orange and red to make a rainbow-striped pattern. Continue until all batter has been used and pans are equally filled. 8. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Meanwhile, sprinkle sugar over two clean kitchen towels. Remove cake from oven. Run metal spatula around edges of pans; carefully turn one on to each kitchen towel. Peel away parchment paper. Immediately roll up cake and towel from narrow end. Allow cakes to cool for around 30 minutes. 9. One part is done! While cooling down, you may want to start with the filling! To fill your cake roll, just take the creamy part of your favourite Tiramisù recipe and add some crumbles of Amaretti to it. In summer, you may want to add whipped cream with strawberries. Fill it as you like!

HISTORY

G&T became a thing Gin gaining popularity Late 17th century King William III issued a ban on importing French goods. Since this also applied to French spirits and the British people liked to drink, British Parliament facilitated the production of Gin with the socalled “Distilling Act”.

Since children of addicted women often were neglected or have already been born with addiction to alcohol, Gin got the sad nickname “Mother’s Ruin”

Gin Craze Of course, the triumph of gin had its downsides, too. In the 18th century, which has become known as gin craze, the poorer populations flushed their worries and difficulties away with cheap gin. Overconsumption led to mass alcoholism. Moreover, mass alcoholism led to numerous violent crimes and riots (ginpassion.de, 2012).

Development of Gin until today During Industrial Revolution, Gin became established as a drink of the working class, which consumed the spirit in so-called “Gin Palaces”. In addition to escaping the daily routine and alcoholism, some innovations came up.

Gin and Tonic When the British went east end were confronted with malaria in India, they found out that the quinine of tonic water helps treating the disease. Tonic had been developed as medicine, and therefore its taste left much to be desired. Smart soldiers mixed the tonic with soda water, sugar and gin. Now they could even take it during cocktail hour The famous gin and tonic was born.

In 1519, five ships led by Ferdinand de Magellan set out to circumnavigate the world and explore the „spice islands“. Three years later, only the ship Victoria returned to Spain with 18 people and several barrels of cloves. Sadly, Magellan, who died in the battle during the voyage, never saw the results of his spice

REVIEW

Distillery London Location 186 Portobello Road London W11 1LA

“Portobello Road No. 171” is a classic London Dry Gin with an alcoholic strength of 42%. Combined with a Fever Tree Tonic water and botanicals like juniper berries and an orange peel it tastes like heaven!

Drinks They offer different cocktails, but it is definitely a paradise for Gin lovers! They have so many Gins which is really impressive. Furthermore, they know a lot about this lovely juniper spirit and can recommend you excellent Gin & Tonics. They also serve their own Gin (various Portobello Gin’s) which we tried of course. But more about this in another post

Ambiance Cool Gin pub with comfortable booths to hang out in. Quite busy and therefore sometimes a bit loud, but it is a place you definitely won’t be disappointed!

Service Bar staff is absolutely fantastic. Although we were there on Friday evening, the service was great. They were chatting with everyone, giving you some insights on the drinks and making you feel really comfortable. On request they also quickly showed us the Ginstitute and King Henry, their 400L copper pot still, in which Portobello Gin is being made. Lovely! This staff really makes the place!
