You’ve got to laugh…! Seeing the funny side of life however doesn’t mean cracking jokes every minute or pretending that the problems of life don’t exist ; in fact St. Paul encourages his readers to “rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those
There is a saying that laughter is good for the soul. Certainly the write of the Book of Proverbs thinks so; “A cheerful heart is a good medicine but a downcast spirit dries up the bones” (Proverbs 17.22) In recent years medical research has shown that there is indeed evidence for the therapeutic effect of a good belly laugh. A study in Maryland found that

to remember and tell jokes. I am full of gift and calling it is to be able to make people laugh. And what a gift it is to experience shared laughter. Surely this is one of the best things we can experience through being part of a church community.
Shared laughter is something that I have enjoyed so much during my time of ministry in the parish. (As my retirement thanks for so many things I have valued here.) I’m sure there will a few tears to shed when the time comes to say goodbye … but for now I intend to make the most of these last weeks and keep smiling. Let’s hope this summer is one full of sun and laughter for us all.

The Guild of St. Raphael A number of Christian healing organisations operate within the U.K. – one of which formed nearly one hundred years ago and which has branches throughout the country. For many years now a branch of the Guild has been meeting regularly within the Tettenhall Regis Parish. My own association with this well-established group began in the 1990’s and I have fond memories of many past members. So what is it that brings its members together and what purpose do we further and uphold Christ’s mission to bring healing to a needy world and our primary function therefore is to offer in
mind or spirit. Our meetings take place at 2.30pm on are usually led by Revd. Liz Rathbone or Revd. Allen Roberts. During our time together we focus on the names of those within the parish and beyond who These quiet sessions last for about an hour and our members also keep in touch with those on our list between meetings. If you would like to receive further information about any of this please me on 759537 or have a look at the Guild of St. Raphael website www. guildofstraphael.org.uk Eleanor Carter

100fT abseil for advenTurous vicars! Big Welcome 2014 was a fantastic day, at least in part due to the brilliant weather, and although some of us were engaged in a somewhat risky enterprise, it was a day that was enjoyed by everyone.
sang and performed actions, with gusto. Thanks to all who made the day such a success, to all those who made the church so beautiful and welcoming, to all who produced displays, as well as everyone who made cakes, and strawberry teas and kept everyone refreshed.
The highlight for me was to stand at the top of the tower, harnessed up and about to begin my descent, and to see the crowds gathered at the bottom, who then began to chant as I came down.
who made the abseil so much fun that some of the participants managed a second go at it!
It also was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the church and its surroundings, availing themselves of the hospitality on offer, the information and the refreshents. The young people, too, enjoyed the bouncy castle, the climbing wall, the face painting and the craft.
In addition to the clergy, those brave, or foolhardy, enough to put their lives in the hands of the experts, included: Jon Preece, Michele Ross, Kevin Burgess, Giles Evans, Susannah Somerville.
There were many people who came to the day who don’t regularly attend, so we hope and pray that the love of God may have been experienced through that hospitality.
Others included: Kate Jackson, headteacher of St. Michael’s CE (Aided) Primary School

Memories of Encounter One of last year’s Encounter group offers their reflections of the year they spent together as a group:
I could talk to them about anything. It was awesome and freaky when we climbed up the church tower, and it was especially freaky when Harrison kept turning off the lights (he claimed he didn’t but we all knew it was him!). At the top we saw all of Wolverhampton spread out in front of us. I do have the happy memories of my times at Encounter and I will really miss everyone although most members go to my school; I am really looking forward to seeing them at the barbeque!”
“I thought Encounter was really fun. One reason it’s good is that it’s a great opportunity to make friends. I liked the sweets! We had loads of fun on away days when we went out somewhere. We learnt things about the bible and played games. I loved going to Dovedale and climbing the Thorpe Cloud Mountain. We did funny drama games and in the end we all ended up falling about laughing. The leaders were really kind and friendly and I felt like

A Psalm to the Lord. Dear Loving Father This is just me … For the Song Thrush! Twenty minutes past eight not too many about I pass through the Lich Gate. He’s right overhead – a-top of the tree that’s touching the sky … (… quite near to your hand.) I pause and I listen – that wonderful sound – it’s and joy – he’s praising you Lord! giving his thanks and sharing his song – his gift to us all (that gift came from you!) Again and again rich ripples of sound – It’s the language of love of beauty – of worship – of honour and praise. The angels rejoice They sing those songs too – to the Lord of Creation Our God and our King The maker of Heaven (and thrushes that sing)! I praise you dear Lord For a morning so bright and for touching my soul with these songs of delight! by Eleanor Carter 11
