Editor’s Note Welcome to the very first Issue of VOYAGE, a new, beautiful, intrieguing magazine for those with a passion to travel. Our issues will feature different interviews with locals, and tourists. Not only will we feature interviews, we will also review popular destinations, as well as less known spots. This month we’re focusing on the island of Jersey and the beautiful city Barcelona. The front cover is actually a photograph of

St Aubin’s Bay. All of the photographs in this magazine were taken by Simone Kelly. I hope all readers will find this magazine pleasurable, and that the beauty of these two destinations shine through.

lizabeth castle defended Jersey for more than 400 years and is The castle is situated on Aubin’s Bay and is built on a rocky islet.. This is a destination for those ready to spend a day away from the realisties of the world. Chill, relax, and listen to the waves crash against the rocky walls surrounding the castle. Explore the area and

walk through the green fields scattered throughout the premises. Discover every hidden room, and enter the lost caves. Once all that is over, head back to and and grab an ice cream on the way. Days like these end, but memories will last for a lifetime.

SURFS UP

PAPERCLIX RALLY

C

ourtney Jones giggle’s and leans back in her seat after being asked if surfing is easy. “You’re kidding, right It’s hard to stand up on the board never mind surf on it,” she pauses then begins to explain how it’s properly done. “It’s all about catching the right wave, you need to get it just before it starts to curl and make sure there is no splashes of rips in the sea to begin with. The sea has to be calm with one wave coming at you.” A smile forms on her face as she dives further into the depth of the water sport. “You also need to be able to balance, once you have caught the wave it’s important you don’t stand up straight away. You kneel slightly and when you feel steady you slowly stand up, but you don’t stand straight. You have to stand with a bend in your knees and let the wave take you away.” Courtney explains that she’s been surfing since she was about 11 years old. “My first ever lesson was in Jersey at the watersplash. It was a private lesson with some members of my family, and i remember going out to sea and being a little

scared - but overall it was fun.” Since then, Courtney has had some dangerous moments in the water. “I’ve had my head hit my board, and i’ve been trapped underwater before, being pulled down by the waves. It might just last a short moment but it’s pretty scary.” None of this has ever put her off surfing though. “It’s worth it - every sport has it’s dangers.”

She wriggles in her seat and leans forward as she’s asked where she would most like to surf in the world. “California, yeah, I mean... that place just looks amazing!”

ersey is very well known for it’s many races throughout the year. The little island is infamous for it’s paperclix rally. The very first of it’s kind was held on the 12th of December 1935. Now, the event takes place annually with thousands gathering to watch. Many different types of cars compete, and spectators may even walk around the vehicles before the race to take a look up close and personal. People believe that Jersey is only an island that cares for sport when it comes to cycling - but thousands come to watch the rally each year and many take part. The 2015 event even made it onto television, being aired on Motors TV. If you’re a love action,

and can’t get enough of cars, then this is one event that you need to put down on your bucket list.

PACHA

OPIUM

Pacha is one of Barcelona’s most popular clubs. Situated on Barcelona’s beach, each night there is a different theme to the club, and with two rooms playing different music, there’s something for every club-goer. Entry ranges from 14 euros up, and at such a low price, its shocking how posh and stylish the interior of the club looks. Drinks are around ten euros each, but with the popularity of the club, it can be a long waiting time for a drink and the staffe aren’t the friendliest of people. There are two entrances to the club, so what may seem like a long waiting time can easily go by fast. Dj’s such as Bob Sinclar, and Danny Avila have played at the club. (****)

Opium is situated acrros from Pacha. Again, it’s low entry price at 10 euros brings eager young tourist to it’s doors. However, inside drinks can reach as high as 20 euros, and the heat of the club can get a bit too much for tourists. Opium has showcased many popular dj’s such as Otto Knows. (***)

RAZZMATAZZ

Razzmatazz is in Barcelona’s city centre. The club’s entry is quite expensive, at 50 euros on the door it can really get into your pockets. Drinks aren’t cheap either, when a shot of vodka alone is 10 euros. The clubs grimey look is very stylish though, and there is even a roof to sit on and look at the stars for when you need some air. Razzmatazz has had dj’s as big as Major Lazor play. (***)
