Block 2 Redevelopment Project, Ottawa (2 yrs)

• Renewal of the Parliamentary Precinct: partial demolition and renovation of eleven historic buildings and addition of two new flagship buildings within the city block facing Parliament Hill – the block facilitates office, conferencing, & material handling needs for the Senate of Canada and the House of Commons.

• Achievements/Milestones: Schematic Design Reports – 20%/50%/90%; Pre-Design Reports – 50%/90%/100%; Early Works Demolition Packages – 50%/90%/IFT; Hygrothermal Investigation Packages – 50%/90%/IFT.

• Organized Comment Trackers and addressed Client, Contractor & Consultant feedback at each milestone.

• Produced drawings for PD, SD and CD packages: Floorplans, Demolition plans, RCP’s, sections, elevations, site plans, wall/floor/roof assembly schedules, general notes, demolition notes, keynotes, life safety drawings, GFA/GEA/GIA area plans, FF&E plans, wall sections, details, roof plans, functional zoning plans, security plans.

• Obtained Protected B and Secret Level clearance to have access to sensitive information.

• Designed construction phasing and hoarding drawings and renderings for the Client and Contractor.

• Composed Design Information Requests (DIR) for PSPC (the client), and Site Instructions and responses to RFI’s for the Contractor.

• PreDesign:

• Analyzed hundreds of reference drawings of the historic buildings, existing conditions reports, site photographs, legal surveys, 3D Point-Cloud survey models, and performed site visits to determine the wall & floor assemblies and floor levels of existing buildings — constructed the 3D Revit model and designed the Existing Conditions drawings set used by the wider design team.

• Worked on the client’s Functional Program documentation:

• Generated Room Data Sheets (RDS) using dRofus Data Management software

• Designed Proximity Diagrams and developed RDS summaries using Adobe Illustrator & Bluebeam

• Prepared presentation packages for Client workshops (PDF, Excel & Miro boards)

• Schematic Design:

• Led weekly design meetings with Consultants, prepared agendas and meeting minutes. Regularly updated drawing sets on Bluebeam and Miro boards to facilitate Consultant markups and testing design options. Coordinated shoring, geotechnical review, structural design options, mech/elec systems, IT infrastructure, acoustic design, façade retention, sustainability target analysis, BoH/FoH circulation strategies, loading dock option review, tunnel connection, lighting strategies & landscape design.

• Developed the Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP) for ongoing collaborative scope review with the consultants.

• Developed the Workplan Gantt Chart to determine the critical path through the schedule of tasks.

• Generated cost reduction studies involving program area and excavation reduction.

• Established design compliance with National Building Code and Universal Accessibility Best Practices: performed Occupancy Load calculations for all levels, washroom counts, aggregate egress width calculations, travel distance and exiting strategy, interconnected floor space design, fire separation analysis, areas of refuge, stair and ramp compliance, and Code Report review.

• Early Works Package:

• Managed the schedule and Workplan for the Contractor & Consultants and consolidated the Early Works Demolition package, ensuring consistent cross-referencing between all drawings and specifications.

• Prepared SD, DD, CD, and Regulatory Approval packages for a number of projects including condominiums, office towers, hospital proposals, health-care facility upgrades, industrial buildings, hotel and event venue buildings, and large-scale airport master plans.

• Undergraduate Courses (ASC200, ASC406, ASC520): reviewed student assignments and studio projects and provided feedback to develop their skills in architectural writing, critical thinking, presentation, and understanding of sustainable design principles.

• Developed a website for archiving research and showcasing Modern Canadian Architecture. Assisted with writing and submitting a grant application to the Canada Council for the Arts to further promote architectural research.
