TREBLE: Arsenal's Theo Walcott scores his side's fifth goal and completes his hat-trick in the 6-0 mauling of Blackpool at the Emirates Stadium

Walcott on fire

ARSENE WENGER claims there is more to come from “electric” Theo Walcott after the England forward’s hat-trick brought Barclays Premier League newcomers Blackpool back down to earth with a crushing defeat at Arsenal. The 21-year-old was a controversial omission from Fabio Capello's ill-fated World Cup squad, only to be welcomed back into the England fold following the dismal display in South Africa. Walcott produced a stunning display as he tore the Seasiders apart from kick-off, sweeping the Gunners into an 11thminute lead. Andrey Arshavin made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after defender Ian Evatt had been sent off for a foul on Marouane Chamakh, which looked to have taken place just outside the box. Walcott added a third before the break, with Abou Diaby

Carroll learning with the best TODAY’S ACTION

Newcastle United v Aston Villa, 1.30pm, ESPN

NEWCASTLE manager Chris Hughton has warned Andy Carroll that he faces a steep learning curve in the top flight. The 21-year-old was handed the daunting task of leading the line at Manchester United in the opener and will today don the famous No.9 shirt at St James’ Park for the first time. “He showed how he had grown last season, but he also showed that there are areas of his game that he needs to improve,” boss Hughton said ahead of the match. “As a young man, he does have a great willingness to learn. “He is not a player who plays with fear, but it’s all about CARROLL: Time to learn producing.”

slotting home number four at the start of the second half, before the England man – whose only international goals came with a famous hat-trick in Croatia during September 2008 – then secured the match ball with another well-taken finish. Chamakh headed in a sixth goal, but it was Walcott who shone brightest. “Theo is more electric than he has been,” said Wenger. “He mixed well the final ball and the finishing, which is a sign a player is more mature. “Let’s not forget what he does is always at a very high pace, so it is not easy to make the right decision, but today, he did. “Theo is 21, so now he is at an age where players usually start, you cannot say he is at the peak of his game,” he added. “There

BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND-UP CHELSEA won 6-0 for the second successive Saturday, with a superb performance at lacklustre Wigan. Nicolas Anelka (two), Salomon Kalou (two), Florent Malouda and Yossi Benayoun scored the goals. Gareth Bale claimed the first double of his senior career as Tottenham won 2-1 at Stoke, with Ricardo Fuller netting the home side’s consolation. Birmingham midfielder Craig Gardner was another to strike twice as his side came back from Steven N’Zonzi’s headed goal to beat Blackburn 2-1. Johan Elmander claimed a secondhalf brace as Bolton won 3-1 at West Ham. Carlton Cole missed a first-half penalty, before Matthew Upson scored an own goal. Elmander finished the rout either side of Mark Noble’s penalty. Peter Odemwingie's first goal helped promoted West Brom secure a 1-0 win over Sunderland and bounce back from last weekend’s mauling at Chelsea. Everton had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves after Sylvan EbanksBlake cancelled out Tim Cahill’s earlier effort to snatch a point.

is a lot to come from him – first, he has to keep his attitude right and also to be injury-free, because that decides careers as well.” Meanwhile, Blackpool manager Ian Holloway lamented the decision of referee Michael Jones to send off Evatt, but could only praise Arsenal. “If that is how my team plays one day, I will be absolutely delighted, the pace and movement was terrific, it was a joy to watch,” Holloway said. “Walcott was unplayable. I can only stand there and admire that. It was an absolute education, a masterclass – but we have to learn quickly. “Some of the decisions we made were a bit disjointed after what I thought was a poor decision. We would still have lost the game, but would not have been smarting quite so much pride-wise."

Expect Rooney goals - Giggs TODAY’S ACTION

Fulham v Manchester United, 4pm, Sky Sports 1

RYAN GIGGS has assured Wayne Rooney he is still making a valuable contribution even though he knows Manchester United’s star striker is desperate for a goal. Rooney heads to Fulham today hoping to end a barren run of 13 matches stretching back to the Champions League clash with Bayern Munich in March. However, Giggs is confident the 24-yearold will soon shine again. “I accept primarily goalscorers want to score, especially after getting so many last year,” said Giggs. “If he carries on playing well and getting chances, it will come sooner rather than later because he is a brilliant player.” ROONEY: Goals to come
