THINGS TO SEE & DO IN MARYLAND

As you begin planning your trip to the Old Line State, you’ll realize that so many notable cities and towns are on the water. A few of our favorites include the resort town of Ocean City. It has miles of beaches and plenty of shops and restaurants on its wooden boardwalk. There’s even an oldfashioned amusement park, the Jolly Roger! Don’t miss Annapolis, the capital city and home of the U.S. Naval Academy, or Baltimore, a port city on the Chesapeake Bay that dates back to the 1700s. Further inland, you’ll find quaint Victorian towns with access to some of the best hunting, fishing, and hiking. And Western Maryland offers mountainous areas perfect for thrilling wintertime adventures.

Where To Eat And Drink In Maryland

During your culinary adventure to Maryland, be sure to experience the five Cs: crabs, coddies, caramels, cakes, and cold Natty Boh. OK, so we pushed the limit with the last C, but you’ll see why. Of course, fresh-caught crabs straight from the Chesapeake Bay and neighboring waters are a must. Sit down to a feast steamed to perfection with Old Bay seafood seasoning (made in Baltimore). If you’re not proficient at cracking crabs, you may opt for lump crab cakes or cream of crab soup. You’ll also want to try coddies, fish cakes made with potato and salted cod and served with saltines and mustard. Wash it all down with a can of National Bohemian, Maryland’s very own Pilsner. Craving something sweet? Try caramel creams from the Baltimore Chewing Gum Co., or a slice of the sinful eight-layer chocolate fudge cake from Smith Island. Yum.

Best Time To Visit Maryland

The time of year you visit depends on the experience you’d like to have. May through September are perfect for days at the beach or lake sunning, fishing, or boating. Come in May to attend the Preakness near Baltimore, or in June or July to see the wild ponies on Assateague Island. September through November is the prime leaf-peeping season, and wintertime brings substantial snowfall. Western Maryland offers the best opportunities for downhill and cross-country skiing.
