Removal of asbestos contaminated insulation from steam main. About the project:
Our services:
Following a leak to the steam main at the Hospital, Deconstruct were called to site to remove asbestos contaminated pipe insulation and to facilitate safe access for engineers to carry out emergency repair work. The steam main was isolated, with operatives working alongside the hospital’s engineers to ensure that the main could be repaired and recommissioned causing minimal disruption to this live hospital.

Project challenges: The works were undertaken inside a live services tunnel beneath the hospital grounds. Whilst all pipework was isolated, the electrical services remained live and our operatives had to exercise extreme caution when cleaning and working around these services. Access to the service tunnel was via a manhole in the roadway therefore we had to implement traffic control measures. Works had to be planned and completed as quickly as possible to minimise shut down time of the steam and avoid disruption to the functioning of the hospital.
