Project Challenge: Old HVAC plant serving a very large number of constant air volume (CAV) face and bypass fume cupboards.
Project Brief: Reduce energy demand without compromising on operator safety.
Solution: 1 Upgrade supply units with control & filtration upgrades 2 Retrofit Variable Air Volume (VAV) to the existing fume cupboards 3 Install pressure controllers to each laboratory 4 Initiate fume cupboard diversity into each laboratory 5 Remove individual booster fans & upgrade secondary fans with VSD’s 6 Installation of energy monitoring units to verify savings & act as MM&T capability

Conclusion:
“We have just read the electricity meters for R Block for April, and I thought you might be interested to see the effect of the ventilation modifications which we have carried out. Basically, you can see that a monthly figure of around 120 Mwh has reduced to around 70 Mwh, which is a very significant reduction. When we also compared total use for the whole Wilton Centre, we see reductions of 9.5%. It is our intention to now carry out similar modifications in D, N, & E Blocks.” Site Utilities Manager
