SHIPWRECK DISCOVERIES Pop into the temporary Isles of Scilly Museum at the Town Hall. It contains artefacts from hundreds of shipwrecks.

HUGH TOWN & OLD TOWN

Take a tour Enjoy a guided bus tour or hire a bike or electric cart and explore. By foot, stroll the rocky outcrops and lighthouse at Peninnis Head, discover ancient village and burial chambers of Halangy, Bant’s Carn and Innisidgen, or head to the Garrison Walls for a slice of English Civil history. For great views of Tresco, head to Bar Point or to Pelistry Bay (and Toll’s Island) for a spot of sea swimming and exploration.

HIDDEN GARDENS Seek out Carreg Dhu Garden near Longstone Lodge and Café – a lovely hidden enclave of palm trees and exotic flowers. The perfect pitstop!

GETTING AROUND

UNIQUE LANDSCAPES Explore the rocky out-crops and lighthouse at Peninnis Head or gaze at the unusual ‘loaded camel’ rock on Porth Hellick.

The entire island is approximately 3 miles by 2 miles, so nothing is very far away. Walking the entire coastline, punctuated with lovely cafés, is less than 10 miles in length. There are stunning walks through the middle of the island, taking you through nature reserves and woodland, fields of scented flowers and vineyards, and past road-side honesty stalls.

ADVENTURE TIME Head to the northeast of St. Mary’s to Pelistry Bay and Toll’s Island at low tide for a real Swallows and Amazons adventure.

ISLAND HOPPING

SCILLY’S HERITAGE Panoramic views from the Garrison – once the frontline for England’s defences – a jaunt of around 30 minutes. Stop to admire the 16th century Star Castle Hotel on route.

St. Mary’s is the perfect base to explore the other islands. Regular boat services leave St. Mary’s Quay daily around 10am where you will be dropped at an off island quay to explore. Experience each island’s distinctive character and enjoy a pub lunch before heading back. The art of island hopping is very relaxed – just like Scillonians!

Keeping ScillySpecial

1. Make an impact without causing one – respect our wildlife and view from a distance; carry out a beach clean.

Teän is located just west of St. Martin’s. Climb to the top of the Great Hill (just 40 metres!) for stunning views. Look for evidence of Bronze Age occupation and an early Christian chapel.
