TASTE of SCILLY The Ultimate Food Guide

Experience a Taste of Scilly Welcome to a Taste of Scilly – the ultimate food guide for the islands. This lovely Scilly food guide has been put together as a companion to the Taste of Scilly Festival, a mouth-watering celebration of the very best in local food and drink from across the islands throughout September although, of course, it is just as relevant to visitors year round. Famous for our relaxed pace and simple pleasures, Scilly’s food and drink offer is no different – and represents the ultimate in slow food and low food miles. In fact, on Scilly you not only know where your food has come from, but you can often point to the fisherman or farmer who has provided it.

Scilly’s clear waters, maritime climate, geography and incredibly fresh sea air all make a difference, so you really will experience the very best of our island flavours.

Key to icons Place to eat/drink Farmer Fishermen Food producer

We invite you to use this guide as a taste trail – when visiting each of the islands, why not see if you can work your way around all the wonderful businesses listed within? The islands have an eclectic mix of food producers, fishermen, farmers and of course pubs, cafes and restaurants that serve up their catches, crops, and creations! 2

To my mind there are few pleasures to beat eating fresh food with a glass of wine in the sun with a view of the sea – Scilly was made for this.

Truly Home Made Many of Scilly’s producers are familyrun cottage businesses operated on a small scale and may not be available all of the time. If you’re keen to visit a particular producer, we suggest you contact them ahead of your visit, to make sure they are open. 50

Taste of Scilly Festival Each September, Scilly raises a glass to the very best of its local food and drink with our monthlong Taste of Scilly festival. Savour the flavours of the islands’ food and drink and sample a melting pot of truly distinctive foodie experiences as local bakers, growers, brewers, fishermen, foragers and chefs come together to share their stories, passions and creativity. Expect special island-hopping food trails, foraging walks, talks and demonstrations, wine tastings, masterclasses, crab and lobster evenings, restaurant promotions, beach barbecues and local produce markets across all five islands. Scillonian fare will get your tastebuds tingling, with freshly-caught lobster and crab, succulent duck and beef, farm-grown vegetables, squidgy tatty cake, locally-produced ice cream, chocolate and fudge, and the islands’ own wine and beer. The festival gives us a chance to share all of this with foodie fans from around the world. For more information about the islands, the Taste of Scilly Festival and other events sign up for our e-news at visitislesofscilly.com. TASTE of SCILLY The Ultimate Food Guide
