SEPTEMBER
RICK ISAACSON The 2013 season marks Rick Isaacson’s third as head coach of the Simpson men’s soccer program. In his first two seasons, Isaacson led the Storm to a 21-18-2 record and backto-back trips to the Iowa Conference Tournament. Last season, the Storm experienced tremendous growth under Isaacson, going 13-8-1 to complete an eight-game turnaround from 2010. The 13 wins were the most by a Simpson team since 2002 as the Storm advanced to the semifinal round of the Iowa Conference Tournament. Isaacson orchestrated a first round upset of Wartburg to advance to the second round, Simpson’s first win over the Knights since 2002. In his first year on the sidelines, Isaacson helped Simpson achieve its best record since 2006, going 8-10-1. The Storm finished third in the Iowa Conference with a 5-3 mark, the team’s top finish in the league standings since 2003. Along the way, Isaacson orchestrated wins over traditional conference powers Central and Dubuque, the first time a Simpson team has beaten both in the same season. Isaacson came to Simpson from Ankeny High School, where he led the boys’ team to four state tournaments in six seasons. The Hawks won the Iowa High School Class 2A State Championship in 2007 and finished the season ranked No. 7 nationally by the NSCAA. Isaacson earned CIML Central Conference Coach of the Year honors three times. Isaacson played collegiately at Luther College, where he was a two-time NSCAA Second Team All-Region selection and a three-time all-conference performer. He was the conference MVP in 2002 and led the Norse to three IIAC Championships and three NCAA Tournament berths, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2001. Rick and his wife, Kelly, reside in Urbandale with their daughter, Addison.
