Introduction The norwegian publishing house Aschehoug is losing their young readers to new electronic media. ニ段g. 1 Aschehoug asked us to reverse this trend and make people between 15 - 30 seek cultural influences from other sources than Facebook & JerseyShore. In short; we needed them to rediscover the written word. To rediscover the written word, you need a great reading experience. So how do we give a reading experience to people who normally would never pick up a book? Reading books takes time, so people are most likely to read when they have free time on their hands. The typical young person has a good amount of free time during vacations. So we give them an opportunity to fill this free time with something fun, relaxing and meaningful. In other words; a book.

ニ段g. 1

Our idea:

AND THE DAYS OF THE

ORCHID

It’s a digital book. Kind of.

Aschehoug joins forces with one of their most beloved authors, Jo Nesbø, to create a whole new reading experience. Together they write a story called “(...) and the Days of the Orchid” The book is a written like a classic road novel. The storyline contains adventure, travel, culture, friendship, conflicts and all that other stuff a good road novel should have. But the story takes place where you are. It tells of events you attend. Your friends are playing roles in it. And the best part: You get to be the protagonist.

(...) and the Days of the Orchid. is a novel that works like an app. You download it from the Aschehoug.no, or the app-store. Aschehoug also places billboards with free wi-fi in places where you depart for your holiday. The wifi gives you an instant download. It is free of charge, and works with Ipad, Iphone and other smartphones and tablets.

When you open the app, you sync it with your facebook-profile. Your name appears, and you are asked to to snap or upload a picture for the cover. If you are traveling with friends, you can include them as characters in the story.
