Land Use and Infrastructure Analysis

When looking at the infrastructural connection in Santo Stefano al Mare, while the horizontal connection works really well, the vertical infrastructure of the area, a lot of connections are lacking. A problem with these missing connections, here referred to as ‘missing links’, is for instance that in case of emergencies areas are not fast enough reachable or that it is unsafe for people to move across the area even just for exploring. From this, a map has been created in order to collect the interesting areas for tourists for example open green spaces, squares, stores, public beaches, viewing points etc.

When looking at the missing links within the area, the problems can be divided into different categories. Some problems are due to the lack of vertical connections, order to restore the vertical connection of the area. Every connection that will be restored will have a different impact on improving the area. This can for instance base their connections on combining the matrix with these interesting places for the people using the vertical connection.

Matrix Analysis

Based on the missing links that have been found within the area, after being categorized, a matrix has been made. Within this matrix the different types of land use and its possible problems can be seen. When creating design within this area in order to improve the vertical connection, the matrix can be a starting point.

Category E: Path ends with no pedestrian crossing

Category F: Path ends in a closed area

connections, some problems occur because of a dangerous situation that is present within the connection. The different categories will need different solutions in instance be done for local safety, tourism, sustainability, economic reasons etc.Vertical connections that will be created in the future for pedestrian tourists can

Timeline

On the enhancement possibility map, areas that can be used to develop the urban life in and around this region are marked. These areas may be idle, may be already in use, and may be subject to change/development.

In order to offer different experiences, the routes have been chosen in different parts of the city and according to the places where the most services and enhancement possibilities. The routes created are also determined for different age categories. It shows how far an age group can go on the route, divided into four categories: adult, young, old and children.

Transportation Decisions

The two most important problems of Istanbul are the lack of urban open green space and the transportation problem.

Today, Kadıköy Square has become one of the multi-modal transfer centers with minibuses, buses, trams, metro, sea engines, ferries, sea buses. Enriched with these transportation opportunities, the square has turned into a complex, undefined, non-control function and lost its character.

In the planning of Istanbul, there is a need for traffic solutions using clean energy and encouraging the use of bicycles and pedestrians. Solutions to limit carbon monoxide emissions have been proposed throughout the project, and design and planning decisions have been taken to reduce the weight of motor vehicle traffic in transportation.

Fish Market: One of the architectural focus has been determined as the region to the south of Haydarpaşa. In this region, priority was given to gaining the public use of open spaces. A dynamic fish market has been proposed that integrates with the arteries that allow to disappear towards the north, south and even the sea, passing through the area, with the units that include the culinary arts center along with the point food preparation free eating areas that support the function and function to meet many needs. Natural materials were chosen as building

materials and a low-rise construction was preferred. In order to further strengthen the attachment of these scattered structures lost in the green area and their integration with the existing trees in the area, they were connected and defined with a wooden top cover. The top cover is also protective against the effects of the season, as well as creating a safe-limited area for the shops and experience places inside kiosks.

Buried Cafe: A proposal was made for a cafe buried on the slope in the north of the activity meadow. The facade of the cafe is designed as transparent, allowing those sitting in the cafe to watch the extraordinary silhouette of the historical peninsula.

Architectural Setup

The building, which rises as a rational, refined and linear mass, balances the perception of the street, public space and social focus, while the building is elevated, which is achieved by the drains created in the ground relationship. It aims to visualize a local government approach in the visual memory of the city. The public axis created in this context becomes a part of the project as a recreational channel that can provide experiences with defined and linear landscape additions that regulate the level relations between the two streets.

Venue Program

At the center of the spatial setup are the concepts of “programmatic transitivity and spatial flexibility”, which refer to the building’s interactive program. This approach aims to transform the spaces functionally and morphologically in parallel with the aims of social interactivity, collective activity and social development, and to make the dynamic use of the building continuous with multi-scenario uses.
